L.L. Bean Signature Fall Collection Picks

L.L. Bean Signature – Fall Collection 2010

L.L. Bean’s Signature collection is highly similar to the Land’s End Canvas line.  Streamlined, fitted, younger leaning, and smelling strongly of J. Crew-ness.  Where L.L. Bean Signature differs from Land’s End Canvas, is in price.  It’s on the high end of affordable, and some of their pieces are probably a bit of a reach for the younger more fit demo they’re going after.  But the L.L. Bean heritage is nothing to sneeze at.  And if you want to splurge on something that radiates rugged, well put together American style, try any of these hits from their latest line.

Searsport Flannel Pant  – $109.00 | Searsport Flannel Blazer – $185.00

Separate? Absolutely. Together? Not so sure.

I’m not sold on these two for a suit.  Yes the pants are expensive, but if you live in a colder climate, these will be the pants you reach for on the days the temp. doesn’t break into the double digits.  The Blazer looks to have a great cut, but again… paired together the gray might look a little pajama-ish.  Instead, try the pants with a navy v-neck, white oxford, and a chronograph.

Bean’s Archive Zipper Duffle – $135.00

Good size, good price.

The Signature Archive collection is an attempt to resurrect some of L.L. Bean’s past by re-creating items that sold in their early 20th century catalogs.  This bag was designed from a similar duffel sold in 1934 and it looks outstanding.  Waxed Canvas, leather trim, and dual handles.  A pretty good deal when you consider it’s 27″ long.

Three Button Wool Tweed Blazer – $195.00

What men wore before hooded sweatshirts.

Crazy expensive, but, if you’re single and want to break some hearts on a cold November evening… put this on, head down to your favorite non-dive pub, sit at the bar and drink a porter or stout.  Allow sweater clad attractive women to strike up a conversation with the handsome and rugged guy at the bar (that’s you).  Now maybe it won’t happen quite like that, but you’ve got to admit it’s an amazing looking jacket.  And usually 3-button blazers fall flat.  This one does not.

Archive Leather Saddle Shoe – $129.00 | Suede Saddle Shoe – $129.00

Upgraded and attention getting casual shoes.

Saddle Shoes?  These guys are serious about re-living their past.  The light brown pair is suede while the “merlot” pair is made of leather, these saddle shoes are a little more subtle thanks to the color palates.  Classic silhouettes with rounded toes that take their time getting through the toe curve.

Click here for the rest of the new arrivals.  Anything else worth considering?  Seems like all of their shirts are about $10 too expensive.
