Black Laceups for Any Budget – Summer 2010
A black dress laceup is probably the furthest thing from your footwear mind right now. It’s summer, it’s hot, and you’re sticking to boat shoes, canvas sneakers, and if you’ve got a suit on… brown leather laceups are most likely on your feet.
And that’s why now’s the time to score a great deal on a pair of black laceups. Because it’s summer, and nobody is buying them. Strongly consider upgrading your old beat up pair of dress shoes with one of these. From cheapest to most expensive.
ASOS Clean Point Derby Shoe – $50.73
Unmistakably European and blatantly simple, the Clean Point Derby Shoe from ASOS is all about the shape. Modern point toe, annnnnd that’s about it. Smooth leather with minimal stitching. Combination leather and rubber sole. The perfect shoe for a minimalist guy who wants great looking shoes without a lot of detail… or price.
Cole Haan Air Jackson Cap Toe Oxford – $98.90 (Reg. $198.00)
These things usually run about $200. Cole Haan is owned by Nike, so thanks to that deal you get the Nike Air technology in the heel making these comfortable dress shoes all the more bearable. The shape is neither clunky or especially sleek. Cap toe and rubber sole. Pretty basic, but pretty nice. Very much on sale and all sizes available.
Aldo Crumbliss – $100.00
Not quite a wingtip but a combination of wingtip and cap toe, Aldo’s Crumbliss has plenty of perforations and stitching but none of the weighty look that usually comes along with that. Round toe, rubber sole.
Johnston & Murphy Gillum Runoff – $124.95
The stitching is going to scare a lot of people off, but that’s why they’re so interesting. These shoes have the right shape to catch a glance or two, and then the stitching is different enough to hold you’re attention. I’ve seen these in person and they look even better than they do online. The toe works and works well.
Mercanti Fiorentini Monk Strap – $139.95 (reg. $250.00)
Save your emails, I know these aren’t laceups. But if you’ve made it this far down you deserve to be rewarded. If you’ve ever looked into buying a pair of sleek monk straps, you know they’re extremely rare to find under $200. And once you do, they’re on sale and there’s no sizes left. These are $140, all sizes are remarkably available, and the shape, buckle, and stitching is perfect. This is the perfect pair of black dress shoes to wear in the summer. Made in Italy.
BOSS Black Cenerello – $195.00
The BOSS Black Cenerello combines a trim updated silhouette with widows peak stitching but none of the perforations. Sleek, slick, and just under $200.
