It shouldn’t be that hard to find an athletic fit dress shirt with simple stripes. But it is. It’s the same way with ties. As soon as an affordable designer goes from plain to stripes, they get all freaky. It’s like 1996 all over again, and it usually ends up with a ridiculously busy pattern with way too many colors.
It’s like they’re working off some whacked out formula:
(BMI < 25) + (Age < 55) = (# of different colored stripes on shirt > 3) + (# of different stripe widths > 4)
And that’s bad style math. What you want is a slim fit mainly white shirt, with slim stripes.
DKNY offers two. Both in their slimmer Fitted cut. Their Oasis Stripe is on sale for $44.99 and has a slightly spread collar with blue main stripes and light gray accent stripes. It’s the right choice to wear with a charcoal suit and black tie. The blue stripe gives it just enough color. Their White Stripe fitted has extremely thin double black stripes and a semi-spread collar. It’s dressed up enough for just about any occasion.
Both shirts are well worth the price tag since they’re nothing short of perfect.
