DKNY Dress Shirt: Oasis Stripe Fitted – $44.99 $14.99 | White Stripe Fitted – $52.50 $44.99
It shouldn’t be that hard to find an athletic fit dress shirt with simple stripes. But it is. It’s the same way with ties. As soon as an affordable designer goes from plain to stripes, they get all freaky. It’s like 1996 all over again, and it usually ends up with a ridiculously busy pattern with way too many colors.
It’s like they’re working off some whacked out formula:
(BMI < 25) + (Age < 55) = (# of different colored stripes on shirt > 3) + (# of different stripe widths > 4)
And that’s bad style math. What you want is a slim fit mainly white shirt, with slim stripes.
DKNY offers two. Both in their slimmer Fitted cut. Their Oasis Stripe is on sale for $44.99 and has a slightly spread collar with blue main stripes and light gray accent stripes. It’s the right choice to wear with a charcoal suit and black tie. The blue stripe gives it just enough color. Their White Stripe fitted has extremely thin double black stripes and a semi-spread collar. It’s dressed up enough for just about any occasion.
Both shirts are well worth the price tag since they’re nothing short of perfect.
I don’t know; i’ve tried on DKNY slim fit shirts before, and i wasn’t too impressed. They fit fine in the shoulders/arms, but the stomach was huge.
I’ve basically given up on trying to find a shirt that fits off the rack and have gone to MTM. You can find shirts for ~$40, and input your own measurements, choose fabrics, collars, etc… Perfect fit everytime. Any experience with this?
Y’know I don’t have experience with made to measure. And DKNY slim fit suits have seemed lightly large in the mid-section to me in the past, but their shirts? I guess I haven’t noticed. Even so, it’s so difficult to find a simple stripe shirt like these two that I wouldn’t mind throwing a few bucks the way of my tailor to have her pinch the sides in a little. Alfani Red really needs to get on this.
I just ordered the Oasis shirt after going to their site and it came up $14.99! Not a bad deal. Thanks Dappered!
Good Grief. It IS $14.99. And the White stripe is knocked down to $44.99. Thanks for catching that Will!
Joe, where do you find made to measure for around $40? I know there is a website which can do MTM, and some other designers do as well, but you often get a shirt around 100-150 dollars.
@sartorial… I’ve got to defer to Steve on that one. Steve?
I’ve never used any, but a while ago shirtsmyway.com and blank-label.com were featured on CNet news. I can’t find the original post, but I think I remember the review was overall positive. Looking at the sites quickly right now it looks like blank-label is around $45 base price, while shirtsmyway is a bit more expensive at $75. Blank-Label seems to be backordered an extra 2 weeks at the moment, though, so you wouldn’t get any order until over a month after ordering.
While I can’t personally vouch for it, a friend got a few solid MTM shirts from http://www.bestcustomshirt.com (no ad-spam).
If you sign up for their newsletter, they frequently give out buy one get one 50% off or bogo free deals, so if you capitalize on that, you can get yourself a steal.
Good job! Nice dress shirt!
