Perry Ellis City Fit Suits Review

Perry Ellis City Fit Suits – $244.50 for Pewter Heather or Navy Stripe

Sidenote: That t-shirt the model is wearing with the suit?  God-damned terrible.  Don’t do that.  Ever.

The sriped lining and piping on the interior is also a nice touch.

Clothes from Perry Ellis have always been boxy.  Some of their dress shirts can be decent, but when it comes to jackets and pants they leave a little too much room for most style conscious guys.  Their brand new line called “City Fit” changes all of that, and finally delivers a tapered jacket and slimmer suit pant to compete with the likes of Alfani Red, Express, and Tommy Hilfiger Trim fit.

The photos of the jackets on the web are abysmal.  Nothing like creating an entire new fitted line then not showcasing it to the viewing public.  Even though you can’t see it, the waist on the jackets really are contoured.  The shoulder pads are also thankfully reduced, and as soon as you put one on you’ll be able to tell the difference.

I tried on one of the Pewter Heather suits and was surprised by the feel of the fabric.  It’s almost completely synthetic, but there’s no obvious plastic feel.  The details like contrast buttons and pick stitching on the jacket and around the pants pockets are also impressive.

For $244.50 would I recommend passing over an Alfani RED or Hilfiger Trim fit that’s on sale?  No.  What about a comparable suit from Express?  No again.  But for Perry Ellis this is moving in the right direction.  And it’s about time.
