Perry Ellis City Fit Suits – $244.50 for Pewter Heather
or Navy Stripe
Sidenote: That t-shirt the model is wearing with the suit? God-damned terrible. Don’t do that. Ever.

Clothes from Perry Ellis have always been boxy. Some of their dress shirts can be decent, but when it comes to jackets and pants they leave a little too much room for most style conscious guys. Their brand new line called “City Fit” changes all of that, and finally delivers a tapered jacket and slimmer suit pant to compete with the likes of Alfani Red, Express, and Tommy Hilfiger Trim fit.
The photos of the jackets on the web are abysmal. Nothing like creating an entire new fitted line then not showcasing it to the viewing public. Even though you can’t see it, the waist on the jackets really are contoured. The shoulder pads are also thankfully reduced, and as soon as you put one on you’ll be able to tell the difference.
I tried on one of the Pewter Heather suits and was surprised by the feel of the fabric. It’s almost completely synthetic, but there’s no obvious plastic feel. The details like contrast buttons and pick stitching on the jacket and around the pants pockets are also impressive.
For $244.50 would I recommend passing over an Alfani RED or Hilfiger Trim fit that’s on sale? No. What about a comparable suit from Express? No again. But for Perry Ellis this is moving in the right direction. And it’s about time.
I just bought a City Fit Perry Ellis suit from Marshall’s (should still have some in stock if anyone’s interested) for $80 total (jacket $50, pant $30). Great deal and it is 100% wool unlike the synthetics I found on Amazon.
Wow, it was wool? Nice find Jack. What color? The synthetics really don’t feel that bad, but… can’t pass up that opportunity on the wool. Did they have normal (38-42) sizes?
The problem with Jack’s tip is that I believe Marshalls is just like a surplus store. The big department stores and such all have surplus and after their own sales they sell it to Marshalls and then Marshalls sells it for cheap. That said, it’s impossible to predict what will be on the shelves (or racks) at any given moment. In fact I am pretty sure that the supply at Jack’s local Marshalls does not at all reflect what is in stock in any of the other stores around the country.
That is a damn good find, though, and I wish I was wrong.. because I’d probably run down to my local Marshalls right now to pick one up at that price and fabric 🙂
Oh yeah, I know how Marshalls (and Ross, other places like it) operate. But if He was able to find one in a normal size, maybe there was some sort of error in the manufacturing process and they just made too many of em? If he found one, I think there’s a decent shot others could. But if Jack wears a 48 Long… well then we have our answer 🙂
I wear a 40R jacket/34 pant, pretty standard size. It’s a light grey mini-herringbone pattern, appears grey far away buy has that detail when you get close to it. Paired the suit with those red and black Merona striped socks 🙂
