FTC disclosures and affiliate information

The owners and editors of Dappered.com reserve the right to use affiliate programs to generate income needed to keep Dappered free and uncluttered. Affiliate links help us pay the bills, keep ad space to a minimum (we like having only two ad spaces on the home page), and keep the content machine running.

Dappered does NOT take money in order to review a product, run a promotion, or conduct a giveaway. Nor do we keep free samples of any kind and often shell out of our own pocket for shipping costs to send any photo samples back. We believe in staying as independent and unbiased as we can, but we also realize that when there’s an opportunity to use an affiliate program to generate income, it’s a smart decision to make use of it.

What’s an affiliate program? Affiliate programs allow retailers and brands to track where clicks to their websites are coming from. A commission (y’know, dollars, sometime cents) can be paid out to that website (in this case, us, Dappered) if the person chooses to buy the product.

Our affiliate programs include but are not limited to: Amazon.com, Shopstyle/Shopsense, Click Junction, LinkShare, ShareASale, Skimlinks, Ebay Enterprises, Impact Radius, and iDevAffiliate. Brands are constantly dropping in and out of different affiliate programs, so a full list would be almost impossible, but here’s a few brands we have some kind affiliate relationship with: Allen Edmonds, Express, Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, J. Crew, J. Crew Factory, Bonobos, Spier & Mackay, WP Standard, Charles Tyrwhitt, lululemon, adidas, Nike, The Tie Bar, Taylor Stitch, Bespoke Post, Uniqlo, Huckberry, Saddleback, Grant Stone, Todd Snyder, Indochino, Brooks Brothers, Topman, Florsheim, Fossil, Nordstrom, Macys, Lands’ End, Sierra Trading Post, Yoox, Ralph Lauren, Boden, Timex, Orvis, Club Monaco, Coach, Bloomingdale’s, Saks, Jos. A. Bank (YEAH!!)… the list goes on and on. Do these brands hold some sort of influence over us because we have an affiliate relationship with them? No they don’t. They do not determine what goes on the site. We do. Have we given poor reviews to products produced by companies and brands we have affiliate relationships with? You bet we have.

It’s honestly best to assume that every single last link that points to a retailer has some sort of affiliate connection to us. That’d be the goal at least. Again, that doesn’t influence our content or our opinions on products. Here’s why,

The editors of Dappered pride themselves on being a down to earth bunch with good style judgement, so know that they won’t be pushing crap just to make a couple of bucks. Because if it’s crap, you the visitor will stop visiting. And if you stop visiting, what’s the point?
