What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Whether it’s in the parking lot/stands, or over at a pal’s place or pub… this is a surprisingly difficult scenario to try and inject a little style into. Go too far and you risk looking woefully out of place. Give up and go full slob, and you’ll feel like one. The goal is to dress comfortably but also with some intention. You want to support your team while also being aware of fit and feel, in case it’ll be a long day in the lot, in the stands, on a barstool, or a couch.
The Sweatshirt: Amazon Essentials Full Zip Cotton/Poly Fleece Mock Neck – $16. Official team gear, whether it be college or pro, is way overpriced. So instead of buying an expensive hoodie or jacket from the team shop or bookstore, go with a cheaper “official” t-shirt, and then layer a color coordinated sweatshirt on top. These full zip sweatshirt cardigans from Amazon are cheap, they come in a bunch of colors (to match your school or team), and wash up easy. Which is key when someone spills their (lite) beer on you. They’re also super easy to take on/off depending on how hot or cold it gets, and they’re easy to fold up and stash under a chair or seat.
The T-shirt: Something retro inspired. Old logos > New logos. Especially as we head into a future of AI generated slop.
The Sunglasses: Kent Wang Browline Sunglasses – $55. Classic academic/smart-guy style (they sure as hell ain’t Vipers).
The Pants: KUHL Renegade Recon Pants – $73.94 ($99). Or whatever your favorite extra comfortable, yet highly capable pants happens to be. You want something that feels good both over long walks/stumbles to the stadium, as well as serious stretches in your seat or camp chair while sipping on a cold one. Also worth a mention would be Dick’s VRST 5 pockets, and Lands’ End Travel Kit Comfort Waist 5 Pockets.
The Watch: Casio Duro Diver – $68.99 + C&B Supreme Nato – $38. Rugged good looks. Affordable even with the after-market strap. Full review here.
The Socks: Darn Tough Element Micro Crew Merino Blend Socks – $24. Same theory as the shoes. Take care of your feet.
The Shoes: Vans UltraRange 2.0 – $100. Retro sneaker looks, but built for long days on your feet. And that’s key if you’re tailgating away from the couch. Cheap & flat lifestyle sneakers may look cool… but they’re hell on your feet. The day after tailgating leaves many with sore heads and stomachs. No need to add your legs to the list.
The Belt: (via Amazon) Canvas Web Belt – $9.99. Cheap and casual. Antiqued brass-tone buckle. Easy to loosen when you’ve had that third pint and second burger.
