Orient Bambino V1 40.5mm – $229.50 w/ SAVEBIG ($255)
After decades of success, there is no joy in Mudville, as Orient’s Mighty OG Bambino has finally… struck out.
We’re stunned too, my dudes.
According to a recent promo email from Orient, they’re retiring the original design of their bestselling Bambino series, the V1 40.5mm diameter. Once their stock sells through, that’s it.
This is the model that more or less brought Orient’s line of mega-affordable, in-house movement equipped automatic watches to our collective consciousness. Classy. Simple. The kind of watch your Dad or Grandpa (and maybe you) would wear with everything. From a t-shirt and chinos to a suit and tie. In house, automatic movement. Domed crystal. Simple hands and indices. 40.5mm diameter case is the sweet spot for many, although their introduction of a few 38mm versions became major hits as well.
There are numerous other styles of Bambinos of course (the 75th Anniversary edition being of particular note.) Enough so that there’s some real aesthetic overlap.
But the one they’re retiring is the true classic. The OG. The one which started it all.
The V1 walked so all other Bambinos could run.
(or something like that.)
Anyway, dim the lights and take one last jog around the bases. This watch deserves its curtain call.
That’s all.
Carry on.
