While Columbo Day Weekend sales aren’t quite on the same level as Black Friday, Labor Day, and other long weekend retail pushes, they’re still worth keeping an eye on. And we’ll be doing just that, updating as further events warrant and the weekend unfolds.
BR Factory: 50% – 60% off + addit 20% off
- 100% Merino Crewnecks – $28.80 ($90)
- Size shown is a medium on 5’10″/180.
- They say machine wash, but just stick to dry cleaning them sparingly.
- Lightweight Cotton/Nylon/Poly “Melton” Unconstructed Blazers – $104 ($260)
- Center vent. Functioning sleeve cuff buttons.
- Drapes more like a sweater blazer than a standard blazer/sportcoat.
- Cordury Quilted Shirt Jackets – $80 ($200)
- Size shown is a medium on 5’10″/180.
- Poly/Wool Blend Topcoats – $112 ($280)
- Black or camel. 50% polyester, 40% wool, 5% rayon, 5% acrylic.
Baseline works out to 60% off MSRP as that additional 20% gets taken off the half off price (100x.5x.8=40). If you find a “savings spotlight” piece (like their merino crewneck sweaters) those are 60% off, and the extra 20% drops those items to a total of 68% off. That’s good for Banana Republic’s step-down/diffusion line, BR Factory. And while a recent, ridiculous experience with their once excellent Traveler Jeans was annoying and disappointing, getting in person with some other stuff from this fall line has been encouraging. Their merino sweaters are still really good for the price. (Don’t machine wash them. stick to dry cleaning.) And their outerwear still shows promise. You just gotta pick your battles and keep expectations in line.
VAER: (entry level) DS2 Diver restocks
- DS2 Meridian Gilt Quartz 39mm on stainless bracelet – $329
- DS2 Arctic Quartz 39mm on stainless bracelet – $329
- DS2 Meridian Black Quartz 42mm on stainless bracelet – $339
No they’re not on sale, but VAER does very little discounting of any kind. And these are their entry level divers, which have a real tendency to sell out since they’re moderately priced. Therefor the restocks are worth the mention.
VAER has been a real breath of fresh air these last few years. They started small and have since grown into a real power… which hasn’t gotten too big. They’re still sticking to their values. And their DS2 Divers are a great way to give them a chance without investing intense levels of cash. 39mm or 42mm sizes. Japanese quartz movements. Sapphire crystals.
Brooks Brothers: 25% off + addit. 10% off for members
- Classic Fit Linen-Cotton Knit Sport Coat – $236.24 ($698)
- Shetland Wool Cable Crewneck Sweaters – $107.99 ($199)
- Suit Jacket: Explorer V.B.C. Wool Overcheck – $471.15 ($698)
- Matching V.B.C. Suit Trousers – $201.15 ($298)
- American-Made Oxford Cloth Button-Down Dress Shirts – $133.65 ($198)
- Salinger Bluchers – $167.40 ($248)
Total is 32.5% off full price if you log in before you complete the transaction. Deal(s) also stack on their clearance section for a “triple dip.” Prices above reflect both the 25% off + additional 10% off members discount. Not bad for Brooks Brothers if you’re eyeing up any of their new F/W arrivals and/or something in their clearance section. Exclusions apply of course. Runs through Wednesday (10/14).
Brooks Brothers Part II: 3 dress or sport shirts for $229 + additional 10% off for members
Shown Above:
- 1 Light Blue Non-Iron Supima Dress Shirt ($128)
- 2 White Explorer Collection Non-Iron Dress Shirts ($138 per)
- = $229 total for non-members for all three ($404) ~43% off
- = $206.10 total for members for all three ($404) ~48% off
Yes the extra 10% off for members is stacking on the 3 shirts deal. Works out to $76.33 per shirt for non members, and $68.70 per shirt for members. Not bad if you’re a fan of Brooks Brothers shirts.
Q: What’s the difference between their regular non-iron dress shirts and the explorer collection?
A: Full review can be found here, but here’s the short version:
- Regular non-irons have a bit more heft to the fabric, which is 96% cotton / 4% spandex. They also have a double barrel cuff.
- Explorer Collection non-irons are a little lighter in weight, and made from a 81% Cotton, 16% Polyester, 3% Spandex blend, which adds some moisture wicking properties. Also, Explorers have a chest pocket, as well as a single button at each cuff.
Allen Edmonds: Up to 40% off Rediscover America Sale
- Fifth Avenue Oxfords w/ Dainite Rubber Soles – $289 ($475)
- Ridgley Chukka Boots – $429 ($525)
- Richards Double Monks – $379 ($475)
See our top-10 list here. AE runs two big sales every year. First is their Anniversary Sale in the spring, and this second one is their Rediscover America sale. It’s during these big events that their “icons” shoes actually go on significant sale. It’s not every day one can save serious money on a pair of Parks or Strands.
Bonobos: 25% off Travel & Gramercy Jeans (exp 10/8)
- Travel Jeans (94% Cotton/4% Poly/2% Elastane) – $96.75 ($129)
- Shown above. Three fits, tons of sizes, 9 colors.
- Gramercy Jeans (99% Cotton / 1% Elastane) – $111.75 ($149)
- Four fits, tons of sizes, 6 colors.
Scheduled to expire Thursday night. So perhaps they have something else in the works for the weekend?
Bonobos may not have invented the deeply colored 5-pocket (wait, did they?) but they sure as heckfire popularized it. Still going strong after all these years. Also included in their deal are their (non-high-stretch) Gramercy jean. Some stretch in those, but not quite like the premium 4-way stretch jeans. Those are excluded. Rats! At least the travel jeans/gramercy jeans ship and return for free.
J. Crew: 30% off select for Rewards Members
- Quilted Quarter-zip Pullovers – $89.60 ($128)
- Slim, Straight, or Athletic Fit Chinos – $68.60 ($98)
- Fine-wale Corduroy Shirts – $82.60 ($118)
- 100% Cashmere Crewneck Sweater in Herringbone – $124.60 ($178)
Full original picks can be found here. Gotta be logged in to get the 30% off. We’ll keep an eye out to see if they include more items in this one as the weekend rolls on.
Lorier: Neptune Automatic 39mm pre-order is live – $699
Estimated delivery is end of December. So, not in time for Christmas. But hopefully (key word: hopefully) in time for the new year. Miyota 9039 automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and very, very nice heritage diver looks. Hard not to really like that triangle pointer hour hand + big crown + discreet use of gilt combo.
adidas: Up to 50% off “fall faves”
Limited in terms of what styles are actually getting decent discounts, but it’s nice to see the Continental 80 once again.
Banana Republic: 30% off most (clearance stuff too)
- Italian Stretch Wool Barathea Suit Separates = $474.60 ($678)
- Italian Moleskin Barn Jacket – $243.60 ($348) also seen here
- Loose Corduroy Pants – $103.60 ($148)
Obviously not as good as Friends and Family (40% off), and has more exclusions than F&F did (shoes, bags, cashmere, etc.), but still a nice deal if you GOT something during F&F and want another color.
Huckberry: “Fresh Markdowns” added to sale section
- Flint and Tinder Italian Moleskin Shirt Jacket – $149 ($298)
- Proof Airweave Performance Shirt – $49 FINAL ($98) select colors/patterns
- LUCA Terra Penny Loafer – $168 ($225)
- LUCA Terra Low Sneakers – $156 ($195)
- Patagonia Black Hole MLC Wheelie/Backpack – $251 ($359)
- Pendleton Wool Blend Hunting Jacket – $233 FINAL ($365)
Careful now. Seems like there’s more final sale (no returns/exchanges) stuff than ever in the Huckberry sale section. It’s a mix, but the uptick in items with the FINAL sale tag is unignorable.
J. Crew Factory: 60% – 70% off select
- 100% cotton cable-knit sweater-polo – $39 ($130)
- Striped performance polo shirts – $26.50 ($89.50)
- 100% cotton garment-dyed tees – $16.50 ($55)
Not a massive selection, and it’s mostly basics, but 60% off or more at JCF is usually good.
Also worth a mention:
- Nordstrom Rack: New Arrivals are in
- LL Bean: 10% off w/ LEAF10
- Madewell: Extra 30% – 50% off sale items w/ LONGWEEKEND
- Nike: Up to 40% off select
