J. Crew: 30% off select for rewards members Friends & Family sale

J. Crew: 30% off select for Rewards Members

In a change of strategy starkly dichotomous to the past decade and a half… J. Crew hasn’t run a significant sale in a lonnnnng time.

Like, it’s been months.

This sale? It’s… fine. But not more. Here’s why:

Okay, so it’s 30% off!

But only for loyalty members.

Fair enough, that’s easy to sign up. So then you get 30% off?

But there are exclusions.

But they’re “limited” exclusions, that’s what it says, right?

Define “limited.” Exclusions include their flagship suit separates, almost all blazers/sportcoats, most shoes/boots, and most outerwear. But some bestsellers like their chinos and tees are included. As is some cashmere. So it’s a mix, but… most wouldn’t describe the exclusions pile as being “limited.”

Off we go with the picks. Again, you have to be a member of their rewards club to play along. You can sign up here if you’re not a member and would like to be. Once you’re logged in, be sure to tap the 30% off offer in your cart. Deal runs through Monday 10/12.

Slim, Straight, or Athletic Fit Chinos – $68.60 ($98)

This is rare. J. Crew’s chinos are almost always excluded. And on the rare occasion they do go on sale, it’s for like twenty bucks off or something. Not almost thirty dollars. All colors and all fits.

Slim or Classic Fit Broken-in T-shirts – $25.55 ($36.50)

Size shown above: Medium Classic Fit on 5’10″/180

Not priced like something cheap from Target or Walmart or Amazon, but they’re a customer favorite. They come in slim fit, classic fit, and even a tall template.  They’ve been garment dyed twice and washed for a certain softness and broken in feel that doesn’t look or feel beat to death either. The collars are good, and the colors are both basic and versatile, and also come in a few shades that are just off center enough to be interesting additions to any casual wardrobe.

Two-pocket field jacket in wool – $208.60 ($298)

Maybe the sneaky overall winner of this sale. Classic houndstooth pattern. Chore-coat style, but it’s lined so it may wear a little more like outerwear (while still being an “extra” layer you can throw over a henley or tee.)

Cashmere cable-knit sweaters – $208.60 ($298)

Expensive. Really expensive. But it’s highly unusual for J. Crew to not exclude all cashmere from a sale like this.

Lakeside cotton/viscose/elastane shirts – $68.60 ($98)

Could be a nice midpoint between a traditional button down and one of those soft/squishy knit style shirts which got popular in the last couple of years. Viscose is super soft. But with the majority base being cotton, it should still have structure.

Quilted quarter-zip pullovers – $89.60 ($128)

Not a cheap 100% poly polar-fleece. 75% cotton/25% recycled polyester. Contrast trim at the zipper, collar, and pocket.

Slim or Classic Fit Broken-in organic cotton oxfords – $68.60 ($98)

J. Crew’s OCBDs. Slim, Classic, Tall, Slim Untucked, and even a Relaxed option.

Merino wool V-neck sweaters – $82.60 ($118)

Navy, gray, and black are in stock. No camel yet. 100% merino. Great for layering. Should have a little more “oomph” than cheap options from the likes of BRF or UNILQO.

Athletic Straight-fit stretch corduroy five-pocket pants – $89.60 ($128)

Cords season is once again upon us. And here be J. Crew’s offerings for this time around. 5 pocket style. Three colors.

Cable-knit rugby sweaters – $103.60 ($148)

J. Crew is great at this. They take two timeless styles, in this case cable knit sweaters and rugbys, and combine them to make something familiar yet totally new.

Quilted Jacket with PrimaLoft – $173.60 ($248)

J. Crew’s new quilted & heritage feeling jackets. Quilted poly body with a corduroy collar/other bits and pieces.

Contrast-stitch belt in leather – $59.50 ($85)

Belts are boring. Unless they’re really exciting, and then if that’s the case you best be able to lasso a calf. This contrast-stitch belt is the rare in-between. Not boring. Not rodeo.

Bowery Performance Stretch Dress Shirts with Spread Collar – $68.60 ($98)

Surprisingly good. Maybe not great (like something from Ledbury) but good. Quite good. Lots of colors and patterns, three fits (slim, classic, and tall), and made from a not flimsy feeling twill fabric with good stretch. 67% cotton/28% polyamide/5% elastane. Sold in “alpha” sizes though. So they’re more ballpark than the traditional neck and sleeve measurement shirts you’ll find elsewhere. Size shown above is an unaltered medium slim on 5’10″/180, and it’s a tad too small (especially in the neck) for my normally 16/33 shirt wearing frame.

American Wool Ties – $48.65 ($69.50)

Navy, charcoal, or black. Solid wool. Handmade in Long Island City, New York.

Fine-wale corduroy shirts – $82.60 ($118)

So say you want to wear a velvet shirt without actually wearing a velvet shirt.

“I’m not saying that at all. I do not want to wear a velvet shirt.”

Well that’s great! Because these are corduroy. Which is rugged but still soft, has a nap without being shiny, and won’t get you ridiculed like velvet would.

Pima Cotton Polos – $68.60 ($98)

More refined than many other polos thanks to the smooth, 100 percent Pima cotton fabric. Five colors to pick from.

Bergen 5 Pocket Pants in Slim or Straight – $82.60 ($118)

Something that’s in between classic chinos and jeans. It’s the style of pants a lot of us reach for multiple times a week if not almost every day. 97% cotton/3% elastane.

Poplin button-down or point collar shirts – $52.50 ($89.50)

It appears J. Crew has discontinued their secret-wash line. Not sure if these use the exact same process, but they fill a similar need. Formality is casual to smart casual, and these have “a slightly longer collar.” So a little more substance up there.

Round-buckle jeans belt in leather – $48.65 ($69.50)

Slightly slimmer but still casual. Black or “Cherry maple” (shown above.)

The J. Crew 30% off select for members Friends and Family event runs through Monday 10/12. You can sign up here if you’re not a member and would like to be.
