What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Football, finally seeing a break in the heat, and a few days that feel almost cold. This is the time of year when a little bit of layering feels great, and we transition from lighter fabrics and footwear to heavier and heartier gear.
The Sweater Blazer: The Tie Bar Lasalle Merino Knit Blazer – $148. Made from soft, knit, 100% merino. Meant to wear like a sweater, just cut in the shape of a sportcoat. An extra layer you’ll reach for all fall and winter to wear over tees, polos, OCBDs, etc.
The 1/4 Zip: Dick’s VRST Circuit Seamless 1/4 Zip Pullover – $44.99 ($68). Performance gear smart enough to wear smart-casually. Lightweight but strong fabric with significant stretch and breathability. High neck gives a dashing “turtleneck but totally not a turtleneck” look.
The Tee: J. Crew Factory Cotton Washed Striped Jersey Tee – $11.99 FINAL w/ FALL70. Bit of pop under the 1/4 zip. “Natural” stripes to balance the navy instead of a stark white is a smart, more subtle choice.
The Pants: Amazon Essentials Garment Dyed 5-Pocket Pants – $25ish. Or whatever your favorite pair of medium or darker gray five pockets, chinos, jeans, or cords happen to be. Dark blue denim would work here as well of course.
The Watch: VAER USA Assembled G2 Apocalypse GMT 39mm – $519. Put together here in the USA. More classically sized (under 40mm) for a sports watch, and can also be dressed up.
The Socks: Made in the USA Darn Tough The Standard – $29. The best, most versatile socks on the market.
The Boots: Frye Nubuck Chukkas – $188. Nubuck perfectly walks the line between suede and smooth leather. Not fuzzy, but not shiny either.
The Belt: J. Crew Factory Roller Buckle Belt – $40ish. Casual but not clunky. Goes great with jeans, chinos, or 5 pockets.
