Quick Picks: J. Crew 30% off + Free Shipping

September 28, 2016 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links results in us getting a commission (not always, but just about), which helps keep the lights on around here. We also take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

WEDNESDAY = 30% off plus Free Shipping no Min. at J. Crew

J. Crew is doing a daily deal all this week, and it turns out that hump day (cue the camel) might be the best of the batch.

Yes, there are exclusions. But there are a few items that are getting the cut that you wouldn’t have expected to, this early on in the new season. Plus, use that WEDNESDAY code and you’ll get free shipping, no minimum. So even if you’ve had your eye on just one, cheaper item from J. Crew’s new batch of autumnal appropriate apparel & accessories, you won’t have to shell out an extra $5 for shipping.

Quick picks are below. Note that the 30% off is good on the sale section too, but, don’t be surprised if they drop a 40% off sale items code later on this week (just a hunch, I have no advanced knowledge of that potentially happening). Off we go.

Ludlow Blazer in Green or Navy Corduroy – $138.60 ($198)

Ludlow Blazer in Green or Navy Corduroy

Probably the star of the sale. Sadly, none of their other just-released-for-fall sportcoats are getting the cut. But these are excellent in their own right. Totally unlined back. Soft construction. Easy to dress up or way down. One of the better fall items J. Crew makes.

Made in the USA 770 Garment Dye Jean – $87.50 ($125)

USA Made J Crew Jeans

These look a LOT like the Bonobos Travel Jean, which run $108 at full price. So maybe worth giving this J. Crew option a look now that they’re on sale? Cone Denim, just like the Bonobos travel jean. Made in LA. Just a 14.75″ leg opening, so, thunder thighs types need not apply.

J. Crew Merino Wool Birdseye Cardigan – $66.15 ($94.50)

J. Crew Merino Wool Birdseye Cardigan

AND… you save another five bucks by avoiding getting nailed with flat rate shipping. Nice combo of navy blue accents and the blue/white birdseye stitch body. Also super glad they made it in Merino instead of Cotton. No knock on cotton, but wool, especially merino, is just flat out superior

Ludlow Peak or Notch Lapel Topcoat in Wool/Cashmere – $315 ($450)

Ludlow Topcoats

Good gracious the fabric sure is soft on these things. Or, at least the grey peak lapel coat seen on the left (as well as the top of the post). Can’t speak for this year’s camel option, but the grey is 95% virgin wool and 5% cashmere. And for whatever reason, it feels like there’s a heck of a lot more cashmere in there. Size shown above is a 40R on 5’10″/185. These things are cut to slip over their Ludlow suits, so, there’s some room, but they aren’t enormous.

Textured Shawl Collar Cardigan – $68.60 ($98)

Textured Shawl Collar Cardigan

Beefy stitch, but not overly weighty. Just those two colors to pick from. Shawl collar. Perfect for fall. Wish they woulda made it in wool, but, J. Crew does do a nice job with their chunkier/shawl collar cotton sweaters.

Vintage Cords in Slim or Slim Straight Fit – $52.50 ($75)

J. Crew Vintage Cords

Another item where that free shipping no minimum really seems to help. Still, $50ish for cords is asking a lot for those of us who usually source cords from, say, GAP. But some of you guys seem to swear by either J. Crew’s 770 (slim) or 1040 (slim straight) fit? So. Well, there you go.

Sussex Jacket in Moss, Navy, or Charcoal – $138.60 ($198)

J. Crew Sussex Jacket

Well liked and for good reason. Unlike plenty of other quilted jackets, these are made from a cotton/nylon blend (instead of all synthetic). That means they retain their weather resistance, but they lack the garbage-bag shine and feel that can come with all synthetic quilted jackets.

Summerweight Cotton/Linen Sportcoat – $117.60 ($168)

J. Crew Summerweight Cotton/Linen Sportcoat

The season is all but up for wearing this thing. But these sportcoats are that good, that they still get a mention when they’re up for a discount (they spent the vast majority of our warm weather period this year excluded). Lightweight. Great drape. Mix of cotton and linen. Go with the black/white stripe option for what’ll essentially amount to a very pale grey, easy to wear with anything, warm weather sportcoat.

SLIM or Reg. Oxford Blackwatch Shirt – $48.65 ($69.50)

J. Crew Oxford Blackwatch Shirt

Spendy, but at least it comes in their true slim fit. Wear it with jeans and under a pale grey merino v-neck, or just as pale and just as grey of a sportcoat.

SLIM Merino Cardigan – $62.65 ($89) | SLIM Merino V = $54.60 ($78)

J. Crew Slim Merino Sweaters

Yes, just like the blackwatch shirt, they’re spendy, but again… J. Crew’s slim is a true slim. So, while you’re stuck paying a pretty price (even at 25% off, and, you have to do a combo to trip the threshold)… at least you won’t look like a descending flying squirrel every time you layer up. More slim sweaters can be found here.

Italian Cotton Sportcoat in Ludlow or Crosby Fit – $159.60 ($228)

J. Crew Italian Cotton Sportcoat | Dappered.com

Ignore the summery image above. This is a year-round sportcoat. Should look awesome with dark wash denim from now until it heats back up in 2017. Crisp Italian cotton. Lightly constructed. Nice to see they’re making these in a Crosby fit now as well.

Dock Peacoat w/ Thinsulate in Navy or Grey – $208.60 ($298)

J. Crew Dock Peacoat w/ Thinsulate

Do remember that there’s always your local Army/Navy surplus store for a real, authentic version. But J. Crew gets a LOT right about their Dock Peacoat. A touch longer than most peacoats (good for protecting your blazer or suit jacket tail), plus those chest high hand warmer pockets are extremely convenient.

Made in the USA Suede Belt – $38.50 ($55)

J. Crew Made in the USA Suede Belt

USA Made. A versatile shade of brown suede (yes, you can wear this with dark brown, smooth leather shoes or boots). 1.25″ wide, so not some clunky thing. Feels like an impulse buy. But, an impulse buy you’d get a lot of use out of?

Water-Repellant Mac Jacket – $173.60 ($248)

J. Crew Water-Repellant Mac Jacket

On sale for the second time in a week. Which is rare, being that they were excluded from sales forever. And while they look like a tremendously well executed basic, most of the reviews say they run almost a size large. Now, remember, it’s outerwear. So you have to be able to layer a thicker sweater or a suitcoat/blazer underneath. But still. No Hamburglar joke this time around.

Goodyear Welted Kenton Wingtips – $118.99 FINAL ($218)

Goodyear Welted Kenton Wingtips

Just went on sale, and the extra 30% off gets them down to under $120. These come in a silhouette that’s trimmer than classic, bulbous bucks. Plus they have a Goodyear welt. Not bad for the price. But be careful. They’re final sale. So no returns.

Field Mechanic Jacket – $138.60 ($198)

J. Crew Field Mechanic Jacket

Garment dyed. Broken In. Lots of pockets. And now? Finally the weather (for most) has arrived where you can actually put the damn thing to use.

Textured Lambswool Crew – $62.65 | Textured Cotton Crew – $41.65

J. Crew Sweaters

A couple of casual crewneck sweaters, both sporting some nautical influences. Jacquard pattern on the left, and those oh-so-familiar nautical stripes are on the right. Both ship for free today. Normally $89.50 for the lambswool, and $59.50 for the cotton.

Abingdon Waxed Canvas Weekender – $138.60 ($198)

J. Crew Abingdon Waxed Canvas Weekender

Extremely well reviewed. And not some dinky thing either. 17 1/2″H x 26″W x 9 1/4″D = over four thousand cubic inches of space. So, it has room.

Sporting Quilted Jacket – $187.60 ($268)

J. Crew Sporting Quilted Jacket

No doubt it’s a looker. Just not sure how it’ll fly in person. Primaloft insulation. Cotton/Nylon body. Functional buttons at the sleeve cuffs. Snap close or open vents in the rear for ease of movement. Based on vintage sporting gear.

The 30% off (with exclusions of course) + free shipping no min. code WEDNESDAY expires, you guessed it, today, 9/28/16.
