Note: While the previous Mako USA was never up for codes, this one does seem to be available for the standard 30% discount. Also note the increased retail price to accommodate for those codes. And if you find a better code? Use it. Don’t feel obligated to use ours.
Just one year after they launched the Mako USA, and only a few months after they rebooted their Ray and flagship Mako original, Orient is giving their Mako USA the same treatment. New movement, one less crown, and same impressive build quality and water resistant specs for the price.
The Sapphire Crystal, solid end links, and Nemoto Luminova are all still there, but the movement now hacks and hand winds. It’s still an in-house, made in Japan movement (caliber F6922), but that hand-winding capability is super convenient (no more swinging the watch around to get it started) and the lack of the extra crown at 10 o’clock gives it a more refined look
It’s a classic diver through and through. 41.5 mm case size is more like the divers Connery’s 007 wore, and less like the hulking beasts seen today. 120 click bezel is nice and snappy, the links are a perfectly proportioned size as well as have a brushed/matte finish, and the 200m water resistance means you don’t have to take it off when you head into the water (unless you’re deep diving, or, the “water” in question is a hot tub… which can really screw with the gaskets).
The hands, indices, and logo are all well-thought out and timeless. It’s a sport watch that you can easily wear with a suit. Or, with a t-shirt and shorts. Available with either a black, blue, or white dial. Kudos again to Orient for updating a classically designed, affordable timepiece, while not messing with all of the good stuff the previous version had going for it.
Enter here to win the black dial Orient Mako USA II shown in this post. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET 6/28/16. Thanks to Orient for once again providing their newest model for a review and giveaway!
