Style Scenario: Summer Wedding, Smart but not Stuffy

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Dressing for summer weddings can be tough. It’s warm, you want to look good, but you don’t want to treat someone else’s big day as your own personal fashion show (it’s seriously bad form). We’re tackling 3 different summer wedding scenarios in as many days. Today features the inbetween. Not crazy casual, but the groom won’t be in a tuxedo either. You’re going for styled, but not stiff.

The Suit: J. Crew Ludlow Fit in Italian Stretch Chino – $342 w/ GETSHOPPING ($456). A half-lined (which is key for warm weather), cotton chino suit with a bit of stretch to help out on the dance floor. And the best news? J. Crew has been putting this thing on sale lately. For example, they’re 25% off through 5/4 with that GETSHOPPING code.

The Shirt: Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Herringbone Dress Shirt – $69.50. A little spendy, but the collars are great for going tieless, the quality is certainly there overall, and Nordstrom’s “smartcare” line resists wrinkles without being stiff and scratchy like many cheaper non-iron shirts. Plus, the super subtle herringbone pattern will provide some nice visual contrast up against the smooth chino of the suit.

The Pocket Square: J. Crew Tipped Italian Wool Pocket Square in Prospect Green – $14.99 FINAL w / GETSHOPPING. Just a bit of color. But in a dark, saturated true green with a cream border. A little unexpected for a warm weather wedding.

The Collar Stays: Alloy Collar Stays – $9.95. If you want a collar that’ll stay upright all night, but don’t want to mess with magnets, get some alloy collar stays and put a slight bend in em’.

The Watch: Orient Monterey Quartz Chrono – $149.00. One way to balance out the lack of a tie would be to wear a watch that’s got some more visual heft to it. And thus, a chrono works. Inexpensive, dependable, and nicely dressed up.

The Money Management System: Suitsupply Nubuck Card Case – $39 | Owen & Fred Brass Money Clip – $19. Avoid the Costanza Wallet bulge! Especially when in a suit. Use those interior jacket pockets. Keep it slim and sleek with a card case and cash stashed in a money clip. Money clip is made in the USA.

The Sunglasses: Brooks Brothers Modern Clubmaster – $73.50 ($98). Not as retro/costume-y looking as the Ray Ban clubmasters, since these have squared off lenses. Walks that line between 21st century and mid 20th century nicely. Currently 25% off due to their F&F event.

The Shoes: Banana Republic Wyatt Italian Leather Single Monk in Chestnut – $168. As good as it gets for an inexpensive single-monk strap. Perfect to pair with a navy chino suit for the summer. Often on sale. Review of the burgundy pair can be found here.

The Belt: Banana Republic Liam Italian Leather Belt in Cognac – $59.50. Stands to reason that if BR’s Italian Leather Shoes and Bags have been knocking it out of the park as of late… their belts should too. No? Also on sale often.

The Socks: Nordstrom Wool Blend Over the Calf Dress Socks – $14.50. They’ll help keep your feet as cool and dry as possible, plus with the over the calf length they’ll stay up all through the ceremony & reception.
