What’s Dappered Threads? It’s our forum. Launched in 2011, Threads has become a not too big, not too small, just-right-sized forum that doesn’t put up with snobbery. All thanks to the users and hardworking mods. Once a month, one of the mods from Threads provides us with a highlight package of the last few weeks.
The WIWT Thread stayed busy this month as users pulled their fall and winter gear out of storage. Coats, boots, sweaters, and corduroy all made plenty of appearances. AsianDapper’s camel topcoat is perfection. theskillets is ready for that snowy Denver weather in a down jacket and hiking boots, and JDI put on a layering clinic with his waxed cotton jacket and striped sweater. The WIWT thread is the perfect place to share your favorite looks, get advice, or help a fellow Threads member out.
The Threads are home to plenty of sage advice, especially for the newbie. Watches, like shoes, can lead you down a (very expensive) rabbit hole. Hyvasuomi79 came to the Threads in search of some wisdom before making his first watch purchase in years. Users helped him think through the details like price, movement, size, and glass. As usual, there was no shortage of opinions.
It’s often said that black cap-toe balmorals, such as Allen Edmonds’s Park Avenues, should be the starting point for any man’s shoe collection. They’re perfect for formal events: weddings, funerals, job interviews, etc. But, do you really need them? Can you just get away with black wingtips or dark brown cap-toe brogues? Some made the argument that given how much nicer quality shoes are than the square-toed corrected grain shoes of the masses, any nice shoes will do the trick for most formal events. Others prefer the peace of mind that comes with having black cap-toes.
Over the past month, several guys shared their recent reading adventures. Many, like Joe, have enjoyed The Martian. Some have been delving into the classics like Kipling, Hobbes, and Locke. DocDave’s always got a new recommendation. Hit up this thread if you need a new read.
For many, the start of a new year means dialing in weight put on by excess holiday cookies, cocktails, and stress. Some of the guys on threads have started a discussion about a kettlebell challenge to get into shape in 2016. The discussion is ranging from exercise routines to dietary advice for cutting body fat. If you have some fitness goals for the new year and are lacking motivation, check it out. Editors note: doing kettlebell swings improperly is an easy way to screw up your back and shoulders. If you know a trainer, or have a friend that knows proper kettlebell form, have them check your swings to make sure you’re doing them right.
Head on over to Threads and take a spin around. Many thanks to moderator BJ Mcgeever for assembling this month’s Best of Threads.
