What’s Dappered Threads? It’s our forum. Launched in 2011, Threads has become a not too big, not too small, just-right-sized forum that doesn’t put up with snobbery. All thanks to the users and hardworking mods. Once a month, one of the mods from Threads provides us with a highlight package of the last few weeks.
Wearing sharp-looking clothes is much more fun when holding something delicious to spill on them. Over the years on Threads, several members have opined on all manner of hooch, booze, firewater, sauce, rotgut, moonshine, and the like. Most recently, such discussion has taken place in the “Craft Beer” and “Calling All Home Bartenders” threads. In the former, we’ve seen recommendations for beers from Rogue Brewery, Troeg’s, 3 Floyds, Saint Arnold, and more. In the latter, threads users have posted recipes for a citrusy gin concoction, a floral cucumbery vodka number, recommendations to infuse your booze with things like bacon and blackberries, and the simplest recommendation: Bourbon. Glass. Drink.
These threads join the venerable Dappered tradition of discussions about grown-up drinks. Come check them out, and take a gander at their predecessors as well for some great ideas about pleasant ways to lose a weekend or two.
There are a lot of things to like about fall: colorful leaves, Halloween, turning off the sweat-spigot. In addition to all of that, one thing stylish fellas thoroughly enjoy about fall is the opportunity it provides us to wear clothing with a bit of texture. In honor of that delightful aspect of the season, andrewlcraft proposed “Fall Textures” as the theme of September 20th’s Sunday Challenge. People were clearly eager to break out their seasonal gear, because the field for this challenge was full. Among others, sskim3 brought it with herringbone, flannel, and fur felt; JBarwick jumped in with a sharp cashmere, flannel, and silk getup; and theskillets autumned it up in suede, corduroy, and cable-knit cotton cashmere. Ultimately, however, LesserBlackDog took the crown with a professorial corduroy, denim, suede, and wool outfit that one user characterized “as classic fallwear as [he’d] seen.”
You did your research and now know what a quality shoe looks like, and what a good price for that shoe is. You kept your ear to the ground while you saved your pennies and at long last were able to pick up a pair of shoes that will look good for a long time. If, that is, you manage to take proper care of them. Threads user jmreg found himself in just such a situation and sought advice on conditioning and polishing his new kicks prior to their 1st wear. This kicked off (pun intended, thankyouverymuch!) a discussion on proper maintenance for quality leather shoes, including entries on the relative merits of leather conditioner, wax polish versus cream polish, and general input on gear, tips, tricks, and recommendations for keeping nice footwear looking good. It’s worth checking out to polish up (yes I did) your base of knowledge on what you need to consider to keep quality shoes looking their best.
After a post on the Dappered.com main page about autumn blazers and sportcoats, threads user believe0101 was intrigued, but wanted to know if he could actually pull off wearing tweed as a mere yoot in his mid-20’s. With a couple of dissents, the broad consensus was that yes, a 20-something gentleman can pull off wearing tweed. In fact, Phatte reported that he had done just that, as had PekkaKarhunen, while sskim lamented that he hadn’t hopped aboard the tweed train earlier. JBarwick jumped in with a suggestion to look for tweed J Crew jackets on eBay, and evanparker offered believe0101 an actual broken-in tweed jacket for nothing more than the price of shipping! Proof positive that if you have a question or a conundrum, your fellow threads users are quite likely to have you covered in every conceivable way!
As usual, the What I Wore Today (“WIWT“) thread has seen a lot of action recently, with users posting pics of their fall looks. JDI has been a prolific poster of fall looks; hornsup84 has posted a couple of solid business casual outfits; and DuFrank has put up a couple of sharp looks. There’s also plenty of inspiration on offer from posts by DapperedHoo, Snake Doctor, AsianDapper (you wanna know how to nail a look with a shawl collar cardigan? That’s how), Nleaders, sskim3, and several others besides. Active threads members make WIWT one of the most consistently rewarding threads to check out and participate in, so come take a look, post a photo, and/or (kindly) offer an opinion.
Head on over to Threads and take a spin around. Many thanks to moderator Shomas for assembling this month’s Best of Threads. Top
