Win It: The Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT

Reader Appreciation Week: Christopher Ward C60 GMT – $1,100

Consider this week five days of saying thank you. Without your readership, your emails, and your willingness to spread the word, Dappered wouldn’t exist. The collection of good guys who frequent this corner of the internet is by far the greatest achievement of this website. And to say thank you, we’ve put together five, splurge-worthy giveaways that’ll hopefully express our gratitude. This is Dappered’s Reader Appreciation WeekGood luck, and thanks a million.

Christopher Ward’s stated goal is to make the cheapest most expensive watches in the world.” The strategy is to forgo the celebrity endorsements and splashy magazine advertisements, and instead concentrate on making great looking, well built timepieces, that can be sold for a price that those outside the 1% can afford. Their watches are for those who love the look and feel of a fine timepiece, but don’t want to burn a few grand on one of the more commonly known brand names. Their newly redesigned Trident Dive series is one of the latest results to come of this strategy, with it’s slick but classy looks, and impressive stats and feel.

Swiss made and boasting an impressive 600m of water resistance, these things are convincingly solid feeling. Not a wiggle or shimmy to be found. The screw down crown threads easily and cinches tightly. The 120 click uni-directional bezel snaps decisively at every click. The luminescent hands and indices glow noticeably better than weaker, cheaper lumes.

They recently re-designed their Trident series, even though they didn’t have to. The previous style was well liked, but I gotta say, at least from this perspective, they made major improvements. The stick indices replaced circular markers, cleaning up the dial. The date window moves up to a more balanced position at 3 o’clock. And with the GMT version (the one featured here) the GMT hand is much larger, instead of an almost forgotten feature on the old models.

Water resistance has also doubled compared to the old version, and the bezel is now made of a fracture-resistant zirconia ceramic. Same unique spade-style hour hand, and the Trident “counter balance” on the seconds hand is also a nice design touch.

So why the GMT hand? Well, if you travel a lot it can be useful. But even if you don’t, it’s kinda fun to glance at your wrist and know what time it is in Prague. Or Aukland. Or in the Azores. Maybe you’ve got a goal to get to one of those places on a vacation in the future. Or you’ve got a friend or relative over seas. It’s an extra complication to an already dependable automatic movement. The Swiss movement hacks, hand winds, and has a 42 hour power reserve.

The model up for the giveaway has a leather band, but they do make other models with rubber straps or stainless bracelets. 42mm case diameter that wears well on most wrist sizes. Easily wearable with everything from a t-shirt and jeans to a suit and tie. It is a beautiful, masculine, well made and luxurious looking watch that just doesn’t carry the price tag of those other brands. Those other brands might carry the name recognition, but who are you buying (or winning) a watch for? You? Or somebody else, hoping that they notice the brand name on your wrist?

Enter here to win the 42mm Christopher Ward Trident GMT 600 Automatic featured in the post above. One entry per person. Deadline for entries is 11:59pm ET on 10/3/15. Many thanks to Christopher Ward for providing the GMT version of their new Trident for Reader Appreciation Week!

UPDATE: Congrats to M. Moran who won the random drawing for the Christopher Ward Trident GMT 600!
