What’s Dappered Threads? It’s our forum. Launched in 2011, Threads has become a not too big, not too small, just-right-sized forum that doesn’t put up with snobbery. All thanks to the users and hardworking mods. Once a month, one of the mods from Threads provides us with a highlight package of the last few weeks.
Everyone’s itching for fall, but the heat won’t seem to fade for some. That didn’t stop the guys on Threads from bringing out their autumnal getups. Lots of competitors this time around, and the voting was close. Entries featured herringbone jackets, flannel pants, and cable-knit sweaters. LesserBlackDog took home the the most votes with corduroy, knit cotton, denim, and suede.
Skinny lapels and ties just won’t go away, but wider lapels are making a comeback (and have been for a couple years)-see Suitsupply. Danny was in between Bar III, with it’s 2″ lapels, and Suitsupply with it’s more classic 3.5″ lapels. Opinions on Threads ran the spectrum. Many guys offered alternatives like Spier & Mackay and J. Crew’s venerable Ludlow line.
Showtime’s Ray Donovan has a straightforward, no-nonesnse style: dark blazers, neutral shirts, simple oxfords. How does his wardrobe shape up against someone with a little more flair like Suits’s Harvey Specter, a lover of Tom Ford suits, or even White Collar’s Neil Caffery? Let the debate commence!
A brand new user to Threads, pouncingmailbox snagged his first-ever two suits from the Brooks Brothers outlet for under $400, only to realize after leaving that they’re from Brooks Brothers’s outlet-only line “346”, not their main line “1818“. The question: should he keep his cheap-but-fused suits, or return them and go for something nicer? Ultimately, the Threads guys advised him to stick with what he can afford. It’s often smarter to go for affordable on your first suit purchase, and then upgrade as you settle into your personal style.
The What I Wore Today thread continued to gain steam over the past month. It’s the go-to place to find inspiration on when you’re not quite sure what to wear. JDI put together some top-notch suited outfits, and DapperedTexan rocked some casual wear. Shomas, however, was the pick of the litter with his waining-days-of-summer seersucker outfit.
Head on over to Threads and take a spin around. Many thanks to moderator BJ Mcgeever for assembling this month’s Best of Threads.
