Banana Republic 40% – 50% off Select Styles

BRSAVE = 40% off + 50% off Select “Cool Weather Essential” Styles

Exclusions? Of course there are exclusions. THERE ARE ALWAYS EXCLUSIONS… and it’s maddening. But this is a sneaky good sale. While the usual items are excluded from the 40% off discount (blazers, suit jackets, BR Picks, etc.) there’s a couple of those very items, the ones that are usually excluded, in the half-off section.

Right. Nothing makes sense.

It’s a two pronged sale. The same code gets you different deals. If it’s in the 50% off Select Styles section, it’s half off. Even the suits and blazers. Everything else (minus exclusions) is 40% off. After some browsing, it appears that this is a much better than average sale for BR. Especially in terms of timely goods getting hefty markdowns, just in time for fall. Picks are below. The code BRSAVE runs clear through next Tuesday, October 13th.

Tailored Fit Charcoal Suit Jacket + Matching Pant = $284 ($568)

BR suiting doesn’t go on sale all that often. Which is too bad, because they’re fused and at full retail, overpriced. But these separates are surprisingly (shockingly?) in the half off section. And when they dip under $300, they’re absolutely worth considering. The Italian wool has a nice drape and natural stretch. And for those that don’t like the slim lapels and button stance on the Thompson fits from J. Crew Factory, the BR Tailored Fit line is more like a budget Napoli from Suitsupply. Not as low of a button stance, a bit more coverage with the jacket tail, and lapels that aren’t quite as slim. Sold as separates, so if you’ve got odd proportions, you should be able to find a jacket & pant to fit your dimensions.

Italian Leather Wyatt Single Monk – $90.59 – $101 ($168)

Look what’s back in stock… and 40% off. If not more. The burgundy and black shades are slightly marked down, so they come out to $90.59 after the 40% off discount. The “chestnut” shade are still at full price. Not a BR Pick, so the code works. Full review here.

Heritage Boiled Wool Blazer – $137.50 ($275)

Really surprised this thing is in the 50% off select styles section. The thing is unlined. That’s a huge plus. BR blazers are almost always fully lined in polyester. And boiled wool is terrific stuff. Huge potential here. Note that their heritage line does run SUPER slim. So, unless you’re lean and mean, it might not fit. A new arrival, otherwise it would have almost certainly ended up over here.

Extra Fine Merino Wool V-Neck – $34.75 ($69.50)

Their flagship cool to cold weather sweater. All merino wool, great neck, and while not quite as trim of a fit as UNIQLO’s merino sweaters, they’re not so see-through either. Tons of colors. Part of the half-off section. Also available in a crewneck.

Ty Chelsea Boot – $100.80 ($168)

Huge potential here. A mighty fine looking budget chelsea. Not going to have the craftsmanship or leather quality compared to the Jack Erwin Ellis, but at a hundred bucks, they’re much more attainable for most. Also available in a chestnut suede. Stand by for an in-person review.

Fulton Skinny Moleskin Pant – $47.70 ($79.50)

Moleskin is awesome. But… dammit Banana Republic. No straight fits? So those of us on #teamthunderthighsandbadonkadonk are outta luck? Drat. Well, if you’ve got the skinny legs, you’re in luck. For those of us who don’t, we’ll have to wait.

Wool Blend Camel Coat – $178.80 ($298)

Obligatory. Many thanks to Michael K. for sending in the tip. Fabric makeup is 60% Wool, 35% Polyester, 5% Other Fibers. Last year’s (shown above) was listed at 60% wool and 40% poly. Hand feel is terrific. Dashing without looking snooty.

Striped Extra-Fine Merino Wool Crewneck – $34.75 ($69.50)

Casual but not sloppy. Same extra fine merino that goes into their fantastic v necks and crewnecks. Only here, it’s a more dressed down crew with some stripes. Three shades to pick from.

Heritage Bold-Stripe Crew Pullover – $53.70 ($89.50)

Check out that texture. Fabric is a blend: 67% Extra-Fine Merino Wool, 23% Nylon, 10% Cotton. Not a bad way to break out of the blue/grey/brown rut without drifting too far.

“Ben” Waxed Suede Cap Toes – $88.80 ($148)

Not much of a nap to the suede thanks to the “wax” application, but that also means they’re less prone to picking up moisture and grime. Hugely versatile shade of grey. Sole is a bit lighter in person (as shown above) than on the BR site. Also available in navy.

Modern Slim Navy Plaid Blazer – $125 ($250)

Not sure what to think of this one. Haven’t been hands on with it yet, but that subtle blue plaid could be terrific. It is fully lined, and from the pics online, it might be quilted? Either that or the lining just happens to have a diamond stitch pattern to it? Price is certainly right. Remember… their “modern slim” blazer fit is much closer than their tailored fit.

Extra Fine Merino Waffle Knit Scarf – $35.70 ($59.50)

Hard not to like that waffle knit. And not a bad price for an all merino (their extra fine merino no less) scarf. Also available in black and “mustard.” 12″ wide and 70″ long. UPDATE: Strangely enough, the code apparently isn’t working on these. Despite the fact that they aren’t labled as a BR Pick and don’t fall under the umbrella of any other exclusions. Ah well… they’ll have to go on sale soon enough.

Herringbone Shawl-Collar Cardigan – $47.99 ($140)

Already marked down to eighty bucks, and the extra 40% off puts it under fifty bucks. Subtle shade of wintery green woven into a slate color, plus a wide herringbone pattern makes for one not-so-normal shawl collar sweater. But it hardly shouts. Knit from a wool, nylon, acrylic blend, so it should be pretty toasty as temps dip.

Curtis Sunglasses – $58.80 ($98)

Budget friendly alternatives to the Ray Ban Caravan? A little more squared off at the bottom of the lens, but still aviators. And by the looks of the shots, there’s little to no branding on them?

The Banana Republic 50% off select styles / 40% off the rest (with exclusions of course) code BRSAVE runs through Tuesday October 13th 2015.
