Style Scenario: Pool Party

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Hot weather means living creatures flocking to bodies of water for some relief from the heat. If you or a friend are lucky enough to have access to a pool, you’ve probably already had friends over for a dip. And perhaps post swim you all headed out for a nightcap. Here’s an summer outfit that will transition from pool time to casual bar time with ease.

The Polo: Todd Snyder Jersey Polo – $35 ($85). Part of the American designer’s collaboration with Champion and their heritage line. Contrast collar and placket, soft jersey cotton, and made in Canada.

The Sweater: GAP Toggle Double-Stripe Shawl Cardigan – $20.99 w/ COOL ($98). In some areas, it’s so hot that bringing an extra layer is ridiculous. But in others, after the sun goes down, getting out of the pool can be a bit more crisp than you’d like. So if that’s your situation, bring a sweater. And a casual cotton shawl collar is perfect here.

The Sunglasses: Sperry York G-15 Polarized Sunglasses – $37.50 ($125) Dark tortoise shell, a key-hole bridge, and wider, 70’s style lenses. Plus they’re polarized. And under forty bucks.

The Watch: Orient Mako USA – $225  Featured on the site last week (perhaps you won it, congrats!), the Mako USA is the newest diver from Orient. A solid combination of other dive watch offerings, the Mako USA clocks in at a 41.5 mm diameter. So wearable for almost all. Made to take the abuse extensive swimming, or a hard-fought game of Marco Polo can throw its way.

The Bag: Hershel Supply Co. Alexander Tote – $60.29 ($89.99) Couldn’t you just toss everything you need to bring to the pool in a plastic grocery bag? Sure. But… well, right. On sale via Nordstrom, so it ships and returns for free. All nylon so it won’t soak up any H20 that escapes the friendly confines of the pool, and that side zip pocket for keys/wallet is genius. Find a less expensive option from LL Bean here.

The Belt: JCF Cotton Braided Belt – $16.99 ($29.50) Just in case you’re more comfortable heading out on the town with a belt on.

The Shoes: Converse ‘Jack Purcell – Jack’ Canvas Sneaker – $49.90 ($74.95) Down to a more than reasonable price during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. These streamlined sneaks look right at home in a casual setting, but are classic enough to handle a step up in venue if needed.

The Pool Game: Air Pong Inflatable Beer Pong Table Cooler – $59.95Fun for sure. Just don’t be stupid.

The Shorts: Olde School Hybrid Board Shorts – $18.88 w/ EXTRA10 ($29.99) Thanks to end of season sales, some swimwear can be had for a good price right now. These hybrid shorts are just about perfect for going from the water and outdoors to hanging out indoors. It even has belt loops in case you want to add a belt pre or post pool.
