Amazon’s Prime service has been a game changer for a lot of us. At $99 for a one-year subscription
To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Amazon is trying to get more people to sign up for Prime. And to entice those who still give Prime the side-eye (understandably, I used to scoff myself, before getting fully hooked), they’re knocking 30% off a selection of goods for Prime members for today and today only. It’s kinda like their black Friday deals. So not a ton of style related stuff, but plenty to look at. No code necessary. Discount happens at checkout. Here’s the best of the best, and again, you need to have a Prime membership to get the discount.
Honestly can’t recall the last time 501s were going for the low $30s, especially in a dark wash color like the “Clean Rigid” shown above. Want a little more “blue” in your blue jeans? Try the dark blue “rinse” shade. The 511’s shown on the left are shown in the shade known as “rinsed playa.” Playa? Well all-right then.
Just available in the gold frame, but the gold frame/green lens combo is a total classic. And the silver/gunmetal options are oddly difficult to find. The perfect blend of sport and class, Caravans don’t droop like a classic aviator lens, but still have enough angles to avoid the athletic-shades look. They’re more suit than flight-suit.
Speaking of aviation inspired accessories. These are from a well respected German brand and equipped with with Japanese Miyota guts. Nothing unnecessary, synthetic sapphire crystal, and an exhibition caseback. Casual for sure, but casual with purpose. 42mm hits the sweet spot for plenty. It IS a little on the thicker (tall) side, so, know that. Type A is for those that like less clutter, type B for those that don’t mind a bit more mess on the dial.
Been having a hard time getting the white-option to have the discount apply, but you may have better luck. Meanwhile, the navy and black pairs dip to under $40 with the Prime members 30% off discount.
The most complicated, cluttered, and down-right excellent (to some of us) looking model in Orient’s lineup. Dual time, automatic movement, power reserve indicator (always nice to have) and three color schemes. The silver dial has a silver center. The black Silver combo is pictured above and note that it comes on a brown band, which looks oddly good. The all black skips the silver accent ring. Reviews can be found here and here.
Couple of delicious names & leather shades for some serious crap-kickers. Made in the USA of course, Goodyear welted as well. Out of season for the next month or two, but boy… that first day in fall when you need/want to wear em’? Also available in black & “cigar” featherstone.
The new Timex “Waterbury” collection does a fine job balancing retro-elements and modern sizes & design. These two look like they could clock in at a dinky size, but are actually a very wearable 40mm. Here’s one way to wear one of these.
The color is “Cordovan.” They’re not made from Cordovan leather. But still. Made in the USA, great shade to the uppers, Vibram sole, and a toe & hardware that’s more versatile than most other Chips and traditional work boot styles.
One of the better deals of the sale. Unfortunatly, the tortoise shell options are down to just 52mm sizing, which is going to be too small for many noggins. But the Black option is available in 55mm and 52mm. Fifty five bucks for a pair of shades that sit at the center of the Sunglasses universe is an awfully solid deal. Made in Italy. Regular price on these things can vary from around the mid $70s to low $100s.
Amazon’s “Prime” day, and its deals for Prime members, ends today, 7/15/15. Meanwhile, many have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure with how cluttered this sale is. No kidding. It’s Amazon. The world’s largest online shopping haystack.
***From past experience: I have a bad run on a Wednesday (yup, today), and decide that it’s time for a new pair of shoes? They’ll be here on Friday, in time for my Saturday run. Hosting a poker party Saturday night, and I decide to class it up with a green felt table top
