Quick Picks: Mr. Porter Sale Summer 2015

Mr. Porter Sale – Summer 2015

Mr. Porter just doesn’t get a lot of screen time on this tiny corner of the internet. Why? Because they sell $255 t-shirts (was $425! 40% off!). A lot (most) of their inventory is high end, super flashy stuff. Yet they do carry a few brands that lean more classic, and can sometimes be had for a reasonable price.

They don’t run sales often. Hardly ever actually, and their summer sale just launched this morning. Looks like all of this stuff, even though it’s on sale, ships and returns for free? Once their sale launches, items can move pretty fast. All picks below had at least a decent size selection at post time, unless otherwise noted. But it’s all still pretty spendy. Don’t expect anything super cheap here. If you’re the type who’s attracted to the higher end, more design-forward stuff, might want to forget where you put your wallet for a while.

J. Crew Wallace & Barnes Wool Worker Jacket – $135 ($270)

Obviously out of season, but for those that don’t mind stepping a little outside of the peacoat box, that’s one hell of a good looking, casual fall/winter coat. From their upgraded Wallace & Barnes line. Currently going for $179.99 (without any additional sale codes) over at J. Crew direct, but just one size (large) left there. Man. Summer’s barely started.

J. Crew Kenton Grey Suede Bucks – $100 ($200)

Gonna be tough to beat that price. Great shade of grey, goodyear welted, and a slimmer profile compared to most other bucks. In person review of the Kenton Buck can be found over here.

NN.07 Wool Blend Henley – $67.50 ($135)

Most henleys are cotton, and a wimpy thin cotton at that. And that’s fine for layering underneath other stuff, but if you just want to wear a henley over a t-shirt, then a wool option like this one is gonna fit the bill much better. 80% wool / 20% elastane.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Briefcase – $230 ($460)

A simple, soft, all leather briefcase. 17″ x 13″ with a tan fabric interior. Nothing flashy here.

Red Wing Suede Blacksmith Boots – $180 ($300)

Maybe the steal of the sale if you’re the boot type. Light brown suede that’ll look terrific up against dark denim come fall. Goodyear welted and made in the USA of course. An oddly large amount of sizes left at post time.

Club Monaco Leather Elbow Patch Cotton Cardigan – $119 ($170)

Chunky cotton knit, shawl collar, and high contrast leather elbow patches. One of those heavier house sweaters that’ll get tons of use once summer fades.

J. Crew SLIM Cashmere V-Neck Sweaters – $112.50 ($225)

Italian cashmere cut in J. Crew’s slimmer fit. Five shades available, with a pretty decent size availability for each at post time. Twice as much (if not three times) what you’d pay for the same sweater, only in merino, but some guys swear by cashmere.

Cheaney Made in the UK Suede Chelsea Boots – $392 ($560)

Pretty much the epitome of what a Chelsea boot is. Beautiful suede, Goodyear welted, and Danite soles. Made in Cheaney’s Northamptonshire factory. Brilliance from across the pond.

Billy Reid Made in the USA Gavin Cotton Trench – $297 ($495)

You’ll pay a lot, but Billy Reid stuff is built to last. Leather under-collar, brass buttons, and unlined.

J. Crew Waffle Knit Cashmere Sweater – $187.50 ($375)

Ooof. Pricey, still, but if you had to pick one casual sweater to have in your arsenal for the rest of your life, then this one might be it. Beefy waffle knit. Perfect shade of grey. 100% cashmere.

Red Wing Moc Toe Boots – $174 ($290)

Beasts. Another pick from this sale that’ll most likely have to be shelved until September. But, a total classic at a more than fair price. Made in the USA. Goodyear welted.

Club Monaco Wright Fit Blackwatch English Wool Blazer – $273 ($390)

Another out of season piece that’s on the high end of the price scale (there’s a lot of those in this sale). Fabric is woven in England. Sleeve buttons are functional, but according to Mr. Porter, they run a little short (so, for those with normal length arms, your wrists might not be swimming in them).

Converse 1970s Chuck Taylors – $48 ($80)

What’s the difference between these and standard Chucks? Not quite sure. They look like they’re a little beefier through the sole perhaps? Available in the army green shade shown here. Just whole sizes, no half sizes.

Not sure when the Mr. Porter Sale expires, but in the past it’s run for about a month. Stock seems to go much, much quicker than that though. Fine print seems to indicate that this is open only to US customers.
