Look, it’s a reach to try and link the recent news of J. Crew’s underwhelming revenue numbers (they aren’t the only ones struggling) to these two above average, nicely substantial sales… but maybe there’s a shred of cause and effect there.

Or not. Who knows.

What is known is that J. Crew has marked down a better than average chunk of their site by 30% off, as long as you use the code GOSHOPPING. And many of their summer suits get the cut this time too. That’s an oddity. 40% gets knocked off the sale section too. Meanwhile, their less pricey brother J. Crew Factory, just launched a half off (suiting excluded) sale, and through today they’re kicking in free shipping no minimum w/ SOSWEET. Got all that? On with the picks from both.

 

Ludlow or Crosby Suit in Italian Cotton Pique – $382.20 ($456)

Seems like just about all of J. Crew’s summer suiting is up for this code. And that’s pretty rare. Sure, it’s half way through June, which means much of the wedding season is done, but sub $400 for a half-canvass J. Crew suit is pretty darn good. Links go to the full suit pages, but you’ll have to scroll down to see the pants. Ludlow is available in three shades, but sizes are getting pretty tough to find for the grey option.

 

Ludlow Suede Goodyear Welted Boots – $179.99 ($399)

These have been cooking in the sale section for some time now, and if memory serves, 40% off is as low as they’ve gotten. Sizes are starting to move. Still not final sale. Full review here.

 

Ludlow Shirting Sportcoat in Microgrid or Glen Plaid Cotton – $117.60 – $124.60

Hey now. A couple of new arrivals here. Totally unconstructed, and cut from shirting fabric for a lighter weight feel. Also nice to see that they made them in exact chest sizes instead of the ball park Small/Medium/Large sizing system. Non functioning sleeve buttons should make for easy tailoring.

 

Kenton Goodyear Welted Suede Bucks – $115.80 ($198)

Review here. A total classic that avoids the usual bulbous toe. Grey is highly versatile, and looks great with jeans once it cools off. Already on sale.

 

Bowery Slim Pant in Glen Plaid Cotton/Linen – $61.60 ($88)

A slim, lightweight dress pant for the warmer months. 15″ leg opening is tapered, but not ankle crushing. The blue/navy combo for the glen plaid is much easier on the eyes compared to something more high-contrast.

 

Slim Secret Wash End-on-End Button Down – $17.99 ($69.50)

Contrast collar, end-on-end-fabric, and washed for a more casual but not schlumpy feel. Already on sale, and drops under eighteen bucks with the code. What the heck is “end on end” fabric? An explanation can be found here.

 

Rustic Cotton Shawl Collar Cardigan – $82.60 ($118)

Not too heavy for summer nights, (depending on where you live) and will do just fine in the fall. Great texture thanks to the weave. All cotton but not mushy or spongy feeling. Has a bit of a sharpness to it withouot being uncomfortable. Terrific buttons. Size shown is a medium on 5’10” / 185.

 

Crosby Cotton Tick Weave Sportcoat – $173.60 or Ludlow Grey Stripe – $117.60

That ludlow in the grey stripe cotton might be the steal of the sale. Unconstructed, very faint light grey strip, and under $120. Sizes are scattered at post time though. Kenton Goodyear Welted Suede Penny Loafers – $115.80 ($198)

Easy to wear casually or a little more dressed up. Decently slim through the foot. Goodyear welted at this price is “something” too. Already on sale but not yet final sale.

 

Urban Slim Irish Linen or Flecked Chambray Chino – $55.65 ($79.50)

Not as dressed up as the creased Bowery pants, but still easy to dress up with a button down and bucks. The linen pants are cut from a striped, Baird Mcnutt Linen/Cotton blend, while the Chambray pants are flecked, light, and soft.

Factory 9″ Short in Pindot Chambray or Oxford – $27 – $29.50

If Target’s Merona Club Shorts are a little too long on you (inseam on those is about 10″), try the 9″ Gramercy short from Factory. They’re more expensive, just a touch shorter. Shown above in two warm weather ready fabrics. The oxford also comes in a summery blue & white stripe.

 

Factory Thompson Cotton/Linen Horiz. Stripe Sportcoat – $89.00

Really nice, 55% linen / 45% cotton fabric on this one, with the back being totally unlined. Acetate lined sleeves. Horizontal stripes are different, but small enough that they’re not weird. Size shown is a medium with sleeves shortened and no work at the waist. Fits like all their other Thompson sportcoats. One of the better affordable jackets of this season.

 

Factory SLIM Chambray – $29.50 or Seersucker Shirt – $34.50

Not the most amazing prices (you have to think that since they’re shirts, they’d dip to under 50% off with sales and codes), but the free shipping is key here. If you’re looking for an easy shirt to throw on under a lightweight sportcoat, then consider a chambray or seersucker for the summer. Seersucker’s pucker is engineered for warm weather, and that particular Chambray is labeled as “lightweight”, so it should be much breezier than a standard thick workshirt. Slim too slim? Both the chambray and seersucker are also available in standard fit.

 

Factory Sutton Fit Summer-Weight Chino – $29.50

Featured in the best lightweight pants for summer post. A true lightweight, all cotton chino made in warm weather colors. Noticeably airy, right out of the box, and wears extremely well in temps north of 80. Their “Sutton” fit claims to be slim through hip & thigh, with a slim leg. 15.5″ opening at the leg. Trimmer, but not so tight that air can’t move around between the pants and your skin. Also available in their straight fit “Bleecker”, or super slim “Driggs”. Colors may vary depending on fit though. Size shown is 33×30.

 

Factory Sutton Linen/Cotton Pant – $34.50

Same not too straight, not too slim Sutton fit, only this time in a lightweight linen/cotton blend. Sure, they’ll wrinkle. But who cares when the temps are edging closer to triple digits?

 

Factory Stripe Webbing Belt – $14.50

Factory’s less expensive version of the mainline’s “Ticking Stripe” belt. The one review says it runs long. Available in small/medium and large/xl. So, if you’re on the real slim side, might want to stay away. Otherwise you risk acquiring an odd looking dog leash instead of a belt.

 

SLIM Pieced Pocket T – $14.50 – $19.50 | SLIM Heathered Tee – $9.50

Need a t-shirt? Sure. Instead of burning the gas to get to Target, consider Factory’s extra slim tees. The “pieced” tees are all cotton, with the heathered tees being a cotton poly mix. Ships free w/ the code.
