Wait, it’s back? Looks like Nordstrom has done a 180 on their decision to nix the half-yearly sales. But unlike their previous schedule, which saw the kids and women’s sale launching in May, while the men’s sale was delayed until June, they’ve now launched the half-yearly for women, kids, AND men, all at the same time.
It appears they had been adding stuff to their sale section over the last few days, but inventory swelled by at least a thousand items overnight. Picks are below. Items are limited to those that had at least a decent size selection at post time, unless otherwise noted. And as always, it’s Nordstrom, so everything ships and returns free. Even if it’s heavily marked down.
Good grief that’s cheap for wool trousers, even if they are an 82% wool / 18% nylon blend. The one review is a three-star, and says “These would be fine for somone in their 20s early 30s..” Well all right then. Sizes are starting to get scattered depending on the color you’re going for. Also available in a slimmer fit, with more limited size options.
TBNY shoes are always priced like they’re Allen Edmonds, even though most would think they’re just a step below on quality. Still really nice shoes, and the now just under $200 price point is more than appropriate. Made in Italy.
A word of warning about these Wallin & Bros blazers: The shoulders on some W&B jackets can be a little strong. So, know that going in. But maybe these’ll have a softer construction, since they’re 80% cotton / 20% linen, and have (only?) “lined sleeves”? Subtle ticket pocket too. There are matching pants available as well, in case you’re the type who wouldn’t mind trying to pull off a chambray suit.
Still not cheap at 40% off, but Todd Snyder goods are high quality. The sort of shirt that if purchased at full price you probably won’t wear enough because you’re saving it for special occasions. Not gonna do well tieless though, since it appears to be a true spread.
For the guys who already have an extensive dress shoe collection, and wouldn’t mind adding an eye-catching smart casual oxford to their lineup. Would go great with a summer suit, and then would visually jump next to dark denim in the fall.
The flagship Bonobos pant in their slimmer fit. Showed up yesterday in the best bets for $75 or less. There are more colors than just those three shown above, but sizes are extremely scattered in those other options.
Not going to be as slim as the Bonobos, and not as many colors to pick from. But still a decent price, and Nordstrom house brand stuff usually outpaces its price in terms of quality.
A little different, a little color. The embodiment of Jack Spade’s design philosophy. Also, steep for just a card case. Which is also right in line with Jack Spade’s pricing philosophy.
Lotta texture there. Lots. A true oxford wingtip that’s goodyear welted. Not made in the UK though. According to East Dane, these are made in India.
Big checks. Not tiny little flecks of gingham. Big ones. Without being full on exploded checkers-board sized squares. Nice collars on these too. Good for going tieless.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnd in solid. Plus a very faint herringbone pattern woven into the fabric. Makes for some very subtle visual depth to these shirts.
Pretty smart design with the straps on this thing. If by chance you needed to throw it over your shoulder (murse! murse! MURSE!), say you’re carrying a crap ton of other stuff and don’t have enough hands, then you can extend the belt-like straps by simply moving to the next notch. 15 1/4″W x 11 1/2″H x 2 3/4″D.
Y’know how some super cheap ties can sometimes feel wimpy, not tie easily, and generally misbehave as the day wears on? Right. These aren’t those ties. Made in the USA. The kinda tie you’d pick out for your wedding day. 3″ wide, which is pretty timeless.
CHEAP. Good for the guys who are going to be headed to a wedding this summer, and want to slim down to a card case & moneyclip instead of lugging around a billfold.
A bit steep in price for a blucher (oxfords are more formal, see the differences here), but most would consider them suit worthy none the less. Especially that burgundy shade. And they could pull some real duty with more casual outfits.
Classic fit, so most are going to want some extra tailoring done, but $70 for a Ledbury shirt is tough to beat. Perfect collars for tieless too, and then there’s the slightly lowered second button. Nordstrom has put the slim fit options on sale too, but there’s not a lot of sizes left in the white or the blue.
Hot pot of coffee that’s a nice looking jacket. Made in the USA too. Side vents. And the partial lining is a big bonus for those of us who don’t mind wearing a wool sportcoat in the warmer weather.
Over the calf = They’re more likely to stay up all day. Made in Great Britain.
Not bad for an all leather, very professional looking briefcase. Dimensions are 15″W x 10″H x 3″D. Available in either cognac or black.
For those that have some cufflinks that they like to wear, or, don’t mind wearing a regular french cuff shirt with a tux (and have an occasion to wear a tux on the horizon).
Bonobos fit, only in a crisper cotton dress trouser instead of the usual washed cotton chino. Straight fits are only available in the grey shown, while the slimmer fits are available in either navy stripe or grey.
Sporty. On the big side at 45mm, but a design like this won’t look out of place with that kind of beefy case. Nice orange accents. Rally strap perforations are a good looking element too. 100m water resistance.
A classic in grey leather. Rawhide laces, side eyelets, the usual. Now just under sixty bucks. Also available in red.
Long live the long-wing. These have been sitting in the sale section since early spring, so, not one of the new additions that just came down last night. Lots of sizes available, and available in either the snuff suede pictured above, a deep dark chocolate suede, or navy suede.
Nordstrom says this half-yearly sale runs through the end of May, but if memory serves, prices might drop further after that on some items that are left behind in the sale section. Stock can move quick though. Remember, everything ships and returns for free.
The Huck team is off on vacation. Which means their big winter clearance is very…
Brooks Brothers starts their winter clearance with an additional 25% off sale items.
Plus a Christmas album you probably haven't heard yet this year. Maybe.
With a focus on holiday events. It's their last sale before their shipping cutoff.
Style choices to make for those times when how you're perceived is critical.
