Quick Picks: East Dane Tiered (Splurge) Sale

BIGEVENT15 = 15% off $250, 20% off $500, 25% off $1000

Wow, those are some high thresholds. There’s no way around it, East Dane just sells some expensive (and flat out weird) stuff. It’s Amazon’s high end men’s store, but it sure seems like there’s an enormous gap between what Amazon.com sells in terms of style, and the high end designer items that East Dane carries.

BUT… that doesn’t mean there aren’t some worthy goods that even us, who are concerned about affordability, wouldn’t consider picking up. Especially knowing that Amazon is fulfilling the purchase, so shipping will be fast and returns will be free. Remember, $250 is the first threshold. So, it’s going to be an investment even at the first step. Off we go.

Filson Original Brief in Navy, Tan, Black or Green – $225.25 ($265)

All right, so it’s just 15% off, but Filson’s original brief can be tough to find on sale. And again, you’ve got Amazon’s shipping policy and speed. They’ve got all four colors at post time. Made in the USA of course.

Billy Reid Bond Peacoat in Charcoal or Heather Green – $556 ($695)

Even with the code it’s still more than half a grand. Made in Italy. Leather under collar. Natural horn buttons. Modeled after the peacoat 007 wore in Skyfall while tracking (and finding and… well… you know the rest) an assassin in Shanghai. Also available in navy and black, but those options are down to just XL at post time.

Wolverine 1000 Mile Morley Full Grain Suede Boots – $238 ($400)

Already on sale, and now the extra 15% drops them to under $240. “Full Vibram sole and Horween Flesh Out leather” gives it that obvious, heavy suede look. Made in the USA. Goodyear welted as always. Real tempting for those with their eyes on a pair of Alden Suede Indys. Different than the Indys for sure. Not as sleek through the toe. But just so much more attainable.

Loake 1880 Mitchum Suede Chelsea Boots – $297.50 ($350)

NOTE: Sizes listed are UK sizes, so, use the conversion chart provided. Good. Gravy. Made in the UK. Goodyear welted. Sleek. As. All. Get out. More on chelseas (and more chelseas) over here.

CWST Made in the USA Cotton Topcoat – $255 ($600)

For those of us who hate to put away our wool topcoats when the weather turns warmer. Cotton, but lined in an attractive sounding blend of wool, linen, cotton, and the obligatory 2% of that commonly used mystery ingredient:”other”. Made in the USA. Longer than most standard mac jackets.

Loake Kempton Suede Chukkas – $331.50 ($390)

NOTE: Sizes listed are UK sizes, so, use the conversion chart provided. These are NOT a cheap desert-boot/chukka. What do you get for all that extra cash? Answers over here. Goodyear welted. Super durable. Meanwhile, these can go for a bit cheaper, but they’re usually on sale via UK retailers. This way you get free shipping & returns. Color shown here might differ slightly than from the brown shade that East Dane is selling, being that Loake seems to make a few different shades of brown for this chukka.  Still spendy, and it might be worth considering a pair of Allen Edmonds Chukkas (or AE 2nds) on sale in the $200 range.

Filson Rolling Duffel + Marvis Toothpaste = $404.80 ($505.50)

Why the toothpaste? It’s to trip the 2nd discount threshold. If you were to get just the bag, the $498 price tag (ouch) means you’re stuck with just 15% off, and that drops it to $421.60. Add in the paste and you get just over $500, so you can now knock 20% off. That lowers the price to $404.80. And you get toothpaste! For once, paying attention to your hygiene actually pays off.

Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots in Brown or Black – $301.75 ($355)

Hell of a boot, but this just isn’t the best discount. Better to hold off and wait for 2nds to show up at Sierra Trading Post, Nordstrom markdowns on firsts during a sale (like their Anniversary sale in July), or something along those lines. Especially now that we’re headed into spring and boots will be worn less and less. UPDATE: Looks like the guys over at Haberdash have put their brown and black Wolverine 1000 milers on sale for $279. They’ve also got the cap toe Rockford for $279 too. Note that sale items at Haberdash are only returnable for store credit.

Weiss Watch Co. Standard Issue Mechanical Field Watch – $760 ($950)

The case parts, dials, spring bar tools, and packaging are all designed, engineered and manufactured in L.A., while the Swiss movements are hand assembled and finished in Los Angeles by a very small watchmaker. Very hard to find at a discount, and now, these mechanicals drop to a price point at which Shinola (the oft criticized Shinola) offers many of their quartz chronos. Check out the Weiss review over at Worn & Wound here.

The All-In-One “Night Of Freaky Romance” Kit! – $234.60

Suggested safe words not included. HAMBURGERS. HAMBURGERS!

The East Dane code BIGEVENT15 runs through Saturday 3/7/15.
