Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
BIG FAT WARNING: All of these select Aldens are final sale. No returns. Zip, zilch, none. Meanwhile, here’s the overall deal: The guys at Haberdash have a few of their Alden shoe styles on sale, but they’re not advertising the markdowns on their site. Since they’re not advertising them on their site, you’ll have to call in (the number is 312-624-8551) to get the discount. Meanwhile, if Alden is too steep for you, they’ve launched a select item sale that features (also expensive, but not Alden expensive) Wolverine 1000 milers, like the cap toe Rockford for $279.
Hey now, that new sportcoat looks perfect for when it warms up. Unconstructed AND it’s only partially lined? Perfect. Plus, with the code it drops to just under a hundred bucks, and today you won’t pay for shipping. Their clearance section does have some decent basic button downs in it right now, plus the twill unconstructed sportcoat (full review here) is back down to under $60 with the code. JUSTCUZ expires today, 3/5/15.
Instead of a site-wide code, B.R. will run these “select item” sales every so often. 40% off, so not bad, and there are a few items in the selection that would usually end up excluded. Ordered this year’s classic Banana Republic trench for an in-person, but couldn’t do the review because a large on 5’10” 185 was just too bulky. By the time it was sent back and a request for a medium was made, they sold out of the first run. BUT… they’re back in stock. Construction is really impressive. Great details like a grey felt under-collar & zip out lining. Expect an in-person on the medium size in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, many thanks to Kevin M. for sending in the style tip on how BR now has some of their shoes (like their suede “Owen” bucks) down into the $50s. Full review here. UPDATE: For the Owen suede bucks, says $52 on the product page, but they’re $88 when you put them in your cart. Which, makes sense, being that $88 is 40% off of $148. But still. Odd.
Look, unless they’re a complete disaster when they show up, that’s a lot of dress-boot for $177. If you don’t want to mess with the 2nds sale risks, you can find first quality Bleeckers on clearance for forty bucks more (lots of black, sizes are limited in the brown). Have em’. Love em’. Thinking about picking up another shade. Built on the same last as the Strand, Park, and 5th Ave. Super comfortable (for me at least) right out of the box. Wore em’ for 4 days straight walking all over Las Vegas on a recent trip, and they held up great.
So… not many are going to have reason or desire to pull off a traditional light-blue seersucker suit. But if you do? JC Penney just introduced one for a hundred bucks. And it’s lined in a more-breathable-than-poly acetate. Might be worth checking out in store once it starts to warm up. And speaking of in-store, their new cotton blazers might take a while to trickle into brick & mortars (doesn’t everything with JCP?) but they’re certainly on the list to check out. Lined in poly unfortunately. NOTE: If you want to spend $30 and prefer the Thompson cut from J. Crew Factory? They just launched their Thompson Separates in seersucker. Deep navy too.
The Pick: Quilted Jacket in Blue or Black – $134.40 ($168)
Boden just doesn’t have a lot of guy’s stuff in right now, but their quilted jacket is tremendous for the price. Nylon body, but lined in a soft cotton short-nap flannel. Medium insulation on this thing. Side vents in the rear, and a not boxy yet not too tight cut. Zipper and button front. Corduroy collar. It’s “imported”, yet extremely well made. Outperforms the Barbour Chelsea.
The Huck team is off on vacation. Which means their big winter clearance is very…
Brooks Brothers starts their winter clearance with an additional 25% off sale items.
Plus a Christmas album you probably haven't heard yet this year. Maybe.
With a focus on holiday events. It's their last sale before their shipping cutoff.
