J. Crew 25% off Select Items Sale

SHOPFORFALL = 25% off Select Items at J. Crew

Summer clearance time has finally come to an end, and that seems to mean that J. Crew is making more of their current-season inventory available for these select item codes. Sure seems like there’s a heck of a lot more stuff up for this “SHOPFORFALL” 25% off code, compared to other recent codes, but most 3rd party, shoes, and all suiting are still excluded.

The code also gets you 30% off sale items, but there’s not a lot new in there. Plus, it’s chock full of final, no-return stuff. But… that might change between now and Wednesday September 24th, which is when SHOPFORFALL expires. Picks, most of which are newer arrivals, are below…

Ludlow Italian Wool Flannel Partially Lined Sportcoat – $246 ($328)

Obligatory “damn” usage. Mid to low $200s is quite fair for the partially-lined Ludlow sportcoat line (think the more dressed up blazers that J. Crew makes, not the rumpled, unstructred, mid to low $100s when-on-sale range). These are the blazers that usually come with a nicely substantial feeling chest piece, bemberg lining, and soft shoulders. This one in particular has serious potential for the upcoming season. An obviously brighter blue than standard navy (will it be THAT bright in person?), cut from Italian wool flannel, partially lined, side vents… it’s got a lot going for it.

SLIM Lambswool V-neck Sweaters – $52.12 ($69.50)

Merino is fantastic stuff, but sometimes a thicker, rougher lambswool is what the weather/mood/whatever calls for. Problem is, almost all lambswool sweaters are cut pretty wide. If memory serves, this is the first time J. Crew has offered a lambswool sweater in their slimmer fit? Kudos to them for doing so. Six colors to pick from. More casual raglan sleeves. Beefier looking collar.

Ludlow Corduroy “Club” Unconstructed Sportcoat – $148.50 ($198)

A basic, but nails it on all fronts. Doesn’t look like some super-thick-wale poo-brown 1970s number. Far from it. Pewter shade will go nicely with black or brown leathers, the cut is much nicer than many other unstructured S/M/L sized J. Crew blazers, and the back is totally unlined. Full review here.

Bowery Slim Pant in Brushed Herringbone Cotton – $66.00 ($88)

A cool weather work pant that won’t set your checking account back like wool will. Brushed cotton for that fall-feel. Herringbone pattern. It’s their slim-fit, so if you’ve got some beef through your legs, be warned that they might be too tight.

Broadmoor Quilted Coat – $148.50 ($198)

If you like the look of a quilted casual jacket, but don’t like the crazy shined-up all synthetic finish that most come in, then try the Broadmoor. There’s a bit of sheen, but not nearly as much as other quilted jackets. Cotton/Nylon blend should help keep some of fall’s precipitation off your back.

Bird’s Eye Print Socks – $10.85 ($14.50)

A good free-shipping balance tipper in case you come up just shy of the $150 threshold. Small polka-dots give a bit of character, without getting too flashy. Cotton nylon blend is actually nice and durable. Not too thick, not wispy thin. Right in between.

English Wool Sportcoat or Elbow Patch English Wool Sportcoat – $246 ($328)

A warning on these Moon Mills wool sportcoats: if they’re anything like last year’s English wool sportcoats (fabric also from Moon), then they’re gonna be thick. Thick to the point that they might be stiff. Perfect for cold days, but not the most flexible jackets out there. Both of these have a heathered effect to them, with the “gunmetal” option having elbow patches.

Ludlow Sportcoat in Windowpane Scottish Wool – $291 ($388)

And then there’s this one. Not from Moon. The tag on the jacket clearly says “Woven in Scotland” by Robert Noble, despite J. Crew calling it “English Wool”. Pretty sure the Scots don’t want to be called English. Especially this week. That tag also says “wool & cashmere”, which might be the cause of that extra cost? And perhaps it’s a little more pliable & lightweight than the tweedy Moon mills options? Maybe? Fingers crossed? UPDATE: See Mick’s note in the comments… perhaps thatsimply means the Robert Noble mill deals in Wool & Cashmere, and not that it’s combined in this particular fabric?

Slim “Rustic” (i.e. Slub) Merino Wool Elbow Patch Cable Crew – $73.50 ($98)

Not cheap. You’re paying for the cable knit & the elbow patches. Do know that it’s their slub-merino, so with that extra texture, expect piling. Cut in their slimmer fit.

Ludlow Workwear Unconstructed Sportcoat in “Dark Raisin” – $141 ($188)

As casual as a sportcoat gets. Thicker, herringbone cotton, ventless-back, shorter tail length, and functioning button cuffs. Extremely workwear inspired. Some are gonna like that, some are gonna be disappointed if they’re just looking for a cotton sportcoat in the of-the-moment burgundy/wine/deep red shade. More here.

SLIM Merino Cardigan – $59.15 ($89.50)

From the sale section. Barely marked down ($5?) but that means it gets the extra 30% off, instead of 25% off. Also, it doesn’t appear to be a final sale item at post time? Lots of sizes & five colors to pick from. Won’t you be my neighbor?

Dock Peacoat with Thinsulate – $223.50 ($298)

Long enough to cover your blazer’s tail, warm enough thanks to the thinsulate, trimmer than most boxy coats, and chest-high pockets that are strategically placed to keep your hands toasty. Look, check your army-navy suprlus for a crazy deal on a similar (and most likely authentic) peacoat, but this mid-thigh design hits all the right points.

Ludlow Pinstripe Suits w/ Slim Pants – $441 ($670)

A new addition to the sale section. Now, with 30% off, it’s right around what you’d pay for a Suitsupply, but some favor the extra slim fit & lower button stance of the Ludlow. And it looks like the pants for each of these only come in the even trimmer “slim” option. Scattered sizes on these, and for now it doesn’t look like these are final sale?

The extra 25% off select items, 30% off sale items code SHOPFORFALL is good through Wednesday 9/24/14.
