$80 blazers, New UNIQLO, & More – The Thurs. Handful

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

J. Crew Factory + Gilt City 30% Off Voucher

Couple of hoops to jump through, but they’re easy enough. First: Head on over to Gilt’s groupon-like site (remember groupon?) and pick up the Extra 30% off virtual voucher for free. Should take an hour or so for it to get in your inbox, and yes, you need to be a member at Gilt to access this thing. Second, take your single use code and hit J.Crew Factory. Thompson suiting is excluded, so, no dice there. But sportcoats are in play, and between the voucher and their “wear to work” sale, you should be able to get those blazers to bottom out for their relative price range. Full review of the unconstructed blazer over here. It’s a winner. Voucher is good through 9/14, so, there might be even better deals in the future, depending on specials. Who knows.

UPDATE: As ccolbert points out in the comments, JCF is now running a sweater sale. Throw the Gilt voucher on top of the slim merino wool elbow patch crews, and they drop to the high $30s. Not bad. Also, their “wear to work” special ended, so many of their blazers have inched up in price.

Nordstrom: Seasonal Clearance Ends 9/7

The Pick: Cole Haan Merino Wool Blend Dress Socks – $6.25 ($12.50)

Ends? What are they gonna do, raise the prices on their stuff in the sale section? It’s not like it’s the anniversary sale. Who knows what “ends” means here, but, it seems like they might have added a few new items to their sale section. Yeah, they’re just socks (thrilling, THRILLING SOCKS!) but a pair of wool blend dress socks for six bucks shipped seems particularly useful around this time of year. Description says they’re hand wash, but… maybe cold on a gentle cycle would do the trick?

UNIQLO: New Fall Arrivals

The Picks: 90% wool / 10% Cashmere Slim Fit Blazer – $99.00, Corduroy Button Down – $29.90, Extra Fine Merino Tactleneck – $39.90

Not a sale here, but UNIQLO stuff starts out pretty affordable, and there’s some interesting new additions. Beware with those blazers. They’re almost always chopped in the tail (for example, I mean… c’mon. That shot fails the finger curl test by like half a cubit). Corduroy shirts look to have a nicely thin wale, so you’ll look more warm & textured, and less 1970s used car salesman. Also, nice to see their tactlenecks are back.

Bespoke Post: The “Frontier” Box is Back – $45.00

One of their better boxes of all time. Still using all of what came in the original (aside from the notebook… filled that up long ago, but, really like the Poppin brand of notebooks and have purchased plenty more since). $45. Ships free. Full review here.

J. Crew: 25% off Select “Fall Must Haves” w/ SHOPTIME

The Picks: SLIM Merino Cardigan – $67.12 ($89.50), Grey Oxford Cloth Ludlow Jacket & Slim Pant – $364.50 ($546)

Another select items sale… with a somewhat limited, and even somewhat odd selection of items. Since when is a light grey oxford cloth suit a fall “must have”? Decent price though.

BONUS: B.R.: 40% off Full Priced Sweaters & Pants w/ BRSTOCKUP

The Picks: Tweed Shawl Collar – $59.10 ($98), Kentfield Birdseye Pant – $47.70 ($79.50)

Well, it’s the weekend after Labor Day, so not all sales are going to be the best. Pretty restrictive here, but if you’ve had your eye on a new pair of pants, or, a new sweater from B.R., then 40% off isn’t half bad.

UPDATE: This ended on Thursday (9/5), but it looks like they’re running a threshold promo through the weekend, and it works on blazers. Take $75 off $150+. $40 off $100, and $25 off $75 w/ BRWEEKEND. If you’re getting a $198 blazer, that’s 38% off. Not bad for an item that’s usually excluded.

Also worth a mention

  • Ledbury: Extra 15% off their labor day sale section w/ LEISURE15 (selection is real picked over)
  • Lands’ End: 25% off reg. priced dress shirts, pants, sportcoats, & ties w/ BUTTONDOWN & 1632
  • JCPenney: 25% off $100+ (or, 20% off under $100) w/ 25HOUR
  • GAP: Cardmembers can get 40% off full priced styles w/ FALLCARD
  • DSW: $10 off everything, $20 off $99, or $40 off $199 w/ SHOPFALL (after you log into DSW rewards)
  • Rue La La: They’re running a Persol event. Still far from cheap, but, there’s some decent markdowns.
