The styling won’t be for everyone, but the blue on black combination of the leather strap Orient Surveyor is going to appeal to those who want to anchor their off-duty look with something that’s not quite as cheerful as a Timex Weekender.
At 42mm in diameter and wearing a little bit smaller, it’s anything but a behemoth. That 42mm diameter dial actually looks a bit small, thanks to the unusually wide (for this face diameter) 24mm lugs. It’s a different kind of look… this mid-sized dial with a beefier strap. And that strap is squared off at the end, solidifying its casual feel.
The in-house automatic movement sits inside an IP coated black case, and under a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is a basic 50m. No exhibition caseback, just the standard stainless steel. The movement doesn’t hack, nor does it hand-wind, but the crown is good and sturdy and everything feels crisp and precise.
One oddity about this thing is how short the strap is. My average sized wrist requires the usage of the 2nd to last hole out of EIGHT. That adds up to the first hole making for a crazy-tiny circumference. Are toddlers wearin’ watches these days?
It’s a basic automatic with a sapphire crystal in a slightly unusual color scheme. Won’t be on everyone’s drool-over list, but acquire one and it might start working it’s way into some corners of your wardrobe that you didn’t necessarily expect.
