TODAYONLY = Extra 40% off Sale Items
Yeah… you’re right. Lots of sales lately. But early – mid spring saw a drought of good promotions & markdowns. Now? They’re coming fast and furious. Maybe retailers are trying to hit your wallet before the Nordstrom Half Yearly sale launches on Friday? Probably overthinking that.
The code TODAYONLY works for… you guessed it… today (6/9/14) only, and takes 40% off sale items. Most of which don’t appear to be final sale either. As always, picks below had at least a decent size selection at post time, unless otherwise noted. Keeping it in the double digits this time, just in case your wallet has taken a beating (me too) lately…
Bennett Suede Chukka – $59.99 ($228)
Sorry… what? How much? Goodyear welted, slim profile, and smooth sole. It’s as dressed up as a suede chukka can get (think a Desert boot that’s been given a shave, shower, and slick new haircut) and might even work with a seersucker or off white suit for summer. But these things should really excel in the cooler months. They don’t even appear to be final sale, so, if they’re a dud, you can always return em’.
Slim Lightweight Chambray Shirt – $41.70 ($69.50)
Chambray without the stiffness. Super lightweight with a hidden button down collar (which, that’s awfully nice and kinda key). Meanwhile… the reviews. For crap’s sake. Glad we can come to some sort of agreement there fellas. UPDATE: These are in the sale section, and have the 40% off text on the item page, but the code isn’t working. Might be because they aren’t actually discounted? Perhaps they’ll get a slight discount later today? Might be worth keeping an eye on.
Stripe Webbing Plaque Belt – $20.75 ($39.50)
A striped summer belt that thanks to the boy-scout-belt-like plaque, shouldn’t slip throughout the day. Made in the USA.
Irish Linen Button Down – $41.70 ($79.50)
Baird McNutt linen cut into a fine-stripe button down shirt. A good choice for those stupid hot days where you shake your fist at the sun, hoping and praying for a cloud to pass by overhead.
Sun Faded Oxford Cloth Pant in Urban Slim – $29.99 ($79.50)
It’s really hard not to like Oxford Cloth pants. Super soft, real breathable, and they project a pretty-close-to-perfect relaxed yet not sloppy summer vibe. A warning, these are cut in the Urban Slim fit, which is gonna be too tight for many. Plenty of sizes in that “I’m not headed to Boca just yet” vintage peri. Try em’ with a navy polo and brown suede drivers or penny loafers.
Vans Suede Chukkas – $36.00 ($70)
Suede chukka boots that make for a nice alternative to boat shoes when worn with lightweight chinos. Looks like just smaller sizes (10 and under) are available at post time.
Short Sleeve Pop-Over in Pieced Chambray – $29.99 ($98)
That full retail price is eye popping. But, now it’s down to under $30, and these pop-over things are super comfortable. They’re a nice mid-point between polo and button down. Plus the pieced chambray is kinda unique. Still pricey for a short sleeved shirt, and know that the fit on these is pretty standard. Wish they made it in slim.
6.5″ Tab Seersucker Swim Shorts – $35.70 ($75)
Looks like it hits all the perfect points of a good pair of trunks. No scrunching elastic waistband (but there is an interior draw cord) a not too long inseam, and the seersucker fabric is a nice touch. Plus, they’re lined. But… just how are they lined? From a review: “The only downside is the mesh pouch lining. I find it a bit uncomfortable and wish it was fully lined versus pouch”
Baseball Jacket – $53.99 ($128)
Hey batter batter. Probably too warm in most parts of the country for this thing right now, but a good cooler-than-expected summer night layer that’ll work plenty well once fall comes close around.
Ludlow 48% cotton / 52% wool Windowpane Peak Lapel Jacket – $104.99 ($388)
All right, so it’s not under a hundred bucks. But close enough. Looks like the pants are sold out (these, while similar looking, are made from a wool/linen fabric from a different mill, but they do have a matching jacket that’s on sale). But, and this is a big but, maybe orphan it and us it as a blazer with a pair of white or off white chinos and a pale blue shirt? It’s flashy, no doubt, but… crazy enough to work?
Macalister Classic – $64.80 or Brickman Boots – $83.99 ($148)
Not bad prices for Italian made boots with stitched soles. The Macalister classic, with the rougher crepe sole, is available (on sale) in four separate colors. Rave reviews on these too.
Lightweight Garment Dye Button Downs in Reg. or Slim – $29.99 – $38.15
Lightweight button downs for the warmer weather. More than a couple colors to pick from in the regular fit. Three to chose from in the slim. The kind of shirt that’ll do just fine with shorts, especially if you roll the sleeves up.;
Product Short Desc – Please Update at the Product level – $39.00 ($88)
Obviously a limited edition collector’s item that the truest of all J. Crew Fans must possess. Not even final sale, so you CAN return it, in case Product Short Desc – Please Update at the Product Level doesn’t work out. Color = natural. Naturally. (Yes, glass houses, stone throwing… totally understood… and no disrespect intended. It is comforting to know that even a behemoth like J. Crew can goof up from time to time).
The Not Under $100: Ludlow Silk-Linen Glen Plaid Sportcoat – $161.99 ($388)
Color is listed as “Sahara Dune“… so… guessing the true color has more yellow/tan-tones to it like the close up on the right? Half lined, summery fabric, good construction.
The extra 40% off sale items code TODAYONLY expires, well, it expires today… 6/9/14. Event is going on in-store as well. Free shipping kicks in at $150, with a $5 flat rate shipping charge before that.
I got the windowpane peak Ludlow in-store for ~$89 with an additional 15% off with my college ID. Steal.
Damn tempting on those $60 Bennett boots, but isn’t anything ending in .99 final sale?
Still working for me, last I checked.
Interesting, I’m not getting the “THIS ITEM IS FINAL SALE” red text on those, or anything else with the $.99 label. For now?
What’s the sizing like on Product Short Desc – Please Update at the Product Level? Size down?
Yeah, otherwise the costs to get it tailored outweigh the savings. Major surgery.
Damn it, they’re out of the small. Do y’all think a medium will do the trick?
The TODAYONLY code worked for the Bennett chukkas (I got navy) but not for the chambray shirt.
Killing me – I want so many things. Might finally pull the trigger on grey suede boots…Anyone know how the size runs on the linen shirt? I want that, but at a 42 chest unsure if I can pull off a medium. If i get a large probably like a sail at the waist.
Strange. Looks like something is odd with that one. It isn’t reduced in price, but is in the sale section and has the “Extra 40% off” text on the product page: https://dappered.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/chambray-but-not-on-sale.jpg
Sorry, I re-read the pricing on the website and saw that the price was prior to discount, then changed my post. JCrew plays mind games with sometimes having the discounted price listed, and sometimes having the discount be added in cart.
Just as well. I was getting it mainly to get to $100 for free shipping, and then I realized that the free shipping level was $150 so I gave up and just got the shoes. I’ve become very wary of S/M/L sizing in shirts after too many way-too-big mediums.
The Windowpane Peak Lapel Jacket is way darker in person. Picked it up last week and got the pants as well during their 30%. Here it is in the closet…a little too close in color to my other suits, but I’ll still keep it.

I would be all over that glen plaid sportcoat if it had bigger lapels. Really wish they would just go ahead and change that.
Awwwww. Hell. See, that makes me desire it more.
I (mostly) agree with the issue with s/m/l sizing. However, JCrew and JCF slim fit M seems to fit like the Medium I need instead of some boxy or too short fit.
I believe they’re slim fit – if so, go with a large. If not, go with a medium.
If anyone’s waffling on those Macalister suede chukkas, don’t. They are fantastic and incredibly soft. I bought them at full price, so $65 is a steal.
I have had my eye on those boots for a while now. I almost crossed the savings rubicon when they were $120 with a code a while back. Got them today.
If they fit well my 90 challenge will be over at 65 days… Also threw in a few (navy, grey and black) slim merino v-necks at $32 each. If the shoes don’t fit it all goes back and the challenge is still on. Otherwise, go big or go home right?
I’d been eyballing their Prince of Wales Ludlow suit since last winter. It won’t see much rotation in the warmer months ahead, but it’s a classic style that I couldn’t pass up, not when the entire suit was discounted to $175 with this code (tax included!) I DID have to order the trousers an extra 2 inches longer than my usual 30/30 (their are limited sizes left), but that just leaves room to have my tailor add a cuff to them.
When you make posts like these and I think about warms weather with the hope of not working one of these nice days…you make me want to buy far, far too many impulse buys. Dey got dem price pointz.
Picked up the Bennett boots from a brick and mortar store a few weeks ago and they were $63 after taxes. They’re great boots! Highly recommend them especially at this price point.
Any sizing tips on the Macalisters? If I wear a 9.5 in Clarks Desert Boots, should I be the same size in the Macalisters?
Mine were true to size at 10.5D, so you should be fine.
True to size?
Met Mickey Drexler recently. He informed me that a new cut with wider lapels is coming in August
FWIW – I have 7.5 in allen edmonds unlined suede chukkas 8 for athletic shoes/ converse by JV and got 7.5 in these and fit great. Little stiff to start off as compared to AE but expect them to soften out with wear. Really good value esp. at this price. (got mine for ~$87 but called them today and they honored price matching)
I ordered a pair of the Red Wing Munson boots which have since sold out. Anyone have experience with these?
I literally laughed at loud at that.
DAMMIT JOE.
….Suede Chukka’s bought.
Think I’ll need to write extra this month.
I have that Baird McNutt shirt and it is great on a hot day.
The whole suit?
Pulled the trigger on the Bennett boots, the Irish linen shirt, and (surprisingly) a pair of Swims galoshes (hopefully not too big—I’m on the smaller end of a size 10D shoe, and at the time they only had XL and XXL). Anybody have experience with these things?
Update: I just got a call from J Crew. Turns out they were actually sold out, and will reimburse me. Bad news is no Swims… good news is ultimately shipping costs were free for a less than $150 purchase!
