What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Maybe someone’s getting married. Maybe someone is throwing a warm weather fancy housewarming. Maybe it’s a bigger buy in than normal for a poker night, and you happen to be the host. Whatever the reason, you know these things… dressed up events that drift in and out of doors that usually get underway as the sun is going down.
The Blazer: Banana Republic Double Breasted Cotton/Linen – $198. Takes some guts to wear, but it’s a modern take on the double breasted blazer. It says that you might just own the place (and maybe you do, if you’re hosting). 74% Cotton, 14% Linen, 12% Viscose, cut in their extra trim Modern Slim fit (so consider sizing UP), and… wait for it… just partially lined. This is the kinda thing that looks best on dudes who have a bit of ugly going on. Not the super clean cut apple cheeked types. Otherwise, you risk projecting Junior Yacht Club member, instead of pal of the Most Interesting Man in the World. Consider holding off until Thursday if interested. Rumor has it there are mailers out there that say there’s a 30% off everything for cardmembers event coming up.
The Pocket Square: TheTieBar Classic Chambray in Warm Grey – $8.00. One of those pocket squares that’s perfect for summer, but sees tons of use year round.
The Shirt: J. Crew Slim Seersucker Button Down – $79.50. Pricey, so might want to wait on a sale. But the seersucker’s pucker should help you keep a little bit cooler, all while delivering a summer-tuxedo-shirt type of look thanks to the texture. Also, the button down collar is appreciated here. The look is loosened up by losing the collar stays (or wurkin’ stiffs/magnets) but kept in line with the buttons.
The Wine: Martin Codax Albariño – $9 – $12. White wine has gotten the bad/unmanly wrap for far too long. Stick to dryer, crisper stuff like this Spanish White and your gut might be glad you traded in the heavier beers now that it’s warmer. Incredibly refreshing, the Albariño from Martin Codax is a steal. Look for it at Costco if you’ve got a membership.
The Watch: Orient Union automatic – $168.75 ($250). Been out of stock on Orient’s site for a while, but Amazon has a few of these classics left.
The Shoes: TBNY Parke Suede Penny Loafer – $131.44. An awfully good price for a To Boot New York shoe. Made in Italty. Deep chocolate suede. Less casual-Friday-Dad and very much more Damn. Word is they might run a little big. Sold by Amazon at post time.
The Belt: James Campbell Grey Suede – $29.00 ($89). MISMATCHED SUEDE. The horror. The… sprezzatura?
The Pants: J. Crew Factory Bedford in Cotton Linen – $24.15 w/ SALE30 Has much more linen in the blend than the BR blazer, so the textures will contrast. Straight through the hip and thigh with a narrow leg.
Cool outfit, but disembodied hands on that blazer are kinda creepy.
Better?

That outfit is ugly. Pure and simple. And I don’t like that type of shoe at all. All it needs some absolute travesty of a song.
I’m with you, here. This outfit is horrifying.
Y’all are easily horrified. I’m not one for double-breasted blazers myself but I don’t see anything else objectionable here….

For the love of God.
Ugh, I should’ve known this would happen. COME ON PEOPLE, KEEP UP OR GET OFF THE… UM… horse? Submarine? When are we gonna see a Submarine style scenario btw?
I hate life.
Don’t pout, I drew them out into the open for you! CCHAAARRRRGGEEE

Alright, that blue double breasted suit is almost a retro flashback to the 90s, but despite its fantastic color, it looks like something David Letterman would wear. There is nothing summer about it, it screams “I shop at the Men’s Warehouse”!
The pants are befitting of a 72 year old retiree from Boca Raton and no person under that age should be seen wearing something like that.
Love the Shirt, love the watch, I will try the wine, the belt might work with the right outfit.
The shoes, I could see them working with some jeans maybe, but I can’t pull up an details about them.
That is why I don’t like the outfit, but hey everyone likes different things. If you like it, own it, certain outfits also work for certain people based on their age, height and region. I would look ridiculous wearing that in here in California, but it may work in other areas of the states.
Meh, I think double-breasted blazers have the potential to look slick as f*!#. This one is cut pretty damn slim, which helps ditch the “I only shop at thrift shops” look. Taller guys will usually have an easier time wearing double breasted blazers.
The pants… I can’t tell without seeing them in person, but that blue looks like it might be tough to pull off (again, I’d need to see them in person).
The seersucker texture in plain white would work great under a jacket as suggested here, but I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable wearing it without a jacket. Still, for those who often reach for a white shirt and a blazer, this could be a solid wardrobe addition.
The shoe choice seems solid – have you attempted to find the shoe details elsewhere on the web? I’m too lazy to look.
I agree, but I am just not digging the double breasted look for a summer soiree. Put some brass buttons on there and wear a captains hat, but for me it won’t work. I agree about taller guys making this work, but I am only 5’10, so I can only pull off a very formal double breasted suit.
The pictures of those pants may just be horrible, but that is all I have to go off of. The texture and color make me want to go pick up a 20 year old, just so I can feel young again… I think I considered plucking my grey hairs out, on first glance.
I will retract my hesitance on the shoes, I managed to get the Amazon page to load (10Mbs cable and still have issues) and they look solid.
‘Tis rare on the hoisting by one’s own petard on this site… 🙂
I submit that this outfit would be improved with the substitution of charcoal linen pants instead, however.

Maybe I am strange, but I am digging that suit, despite the model that desperately wants to be a teenage vampire.
Hoisting petards? I think I need an adult…
Love the outfit, but only one thing: I own the JCF Bedford’s in cotton linen and I hate how they wrinkle. I know linen is going to wrinkle no matter what, but in those pants I cannot take a seat and stand up without looking like cow chewed me for half an hour and spat me out.
About the pocket square what’s the first type one should get? What’s the most versatile?
Damnit… Been looking for a grey suede belt for around this price and of course… Not available in a 34. $&@!#%*!!!!
The warm grey posted is very versatile and at $8, you can’t be that. TheTieBar is great!
Comme d’habitude, this stuff it’s fresh..with enough panache to warrant the effort.
It actually makes me wonder…do you dress your tech up the same way? The cases we put on our devices, the headphones we wear, and heck…even our key fobs speak mightily about us…and I’d love to see. What this site comes up with.
My immediate guess would have been white ?
White linen is usually #1, but I find that a blue gingham and a grey chambray are extremely versatile if you’re dressed casually often.
J crew 30% off w/ SALE30 still going on brings pants down to $29.15 shipped
Joe the pants are 30% off – bringing the total to 29.15 with shipping.
Updated. Thanks Ben!
My vote is sick outfit. I like it a lot and I appreciate the bold/classy balance
I like the double breasted jacket, and I’m glad I picked up that dirt-cheap Express one that was featured here last year. I think the effect is that people find you slightly more dashing than usual, but they can’t quite put their finger on why.
And…you sold Orient out of more watches.
