In an effort to try and fill the void Beth’s absence has left on Dappered, Sarah (of Make It For Your Date and The Pretty Guinea Pig fame), and Amber (she makes graphics magic behind the scenes at Dappered) have put together a spring gift guide for that special lady in your life. Girlfriend, wife, sister, mom… sometimes you’ve got to buy a gift for a girl. Hopefully these suggestions will help you on your quest for the perfect gift.
Got a book lover in your life, that actually still likes to read real books (they do exist, I’m one of them)? Summer reading season is getting underway, and Just The Right Book is a subscription service that will send one gift wrapped book to a recipient for 3, 6, or 12 months, you choose. You do have to provide some information at the start to help get the first book out to your gal pal, but if she’s already read it, or just isn’t interested, she can return it at no cost. Head here for all the FAQ’s on how this service works.
A jewelry display can be like a beautiful, changing piece of art. This is a great way for the lady in your life to display her earrings and necklaces in a tasteful way, while offering the convenience of having all of her pieces visible to choose from. There are so many options for displaying jewelry. Check out more here and here. Are you a guy who likes to make things? Check out these great DIY ideas (I especially like the cheese grater).
Got an amateur photographer on your hands, that likes to take a lot of selfies? This case by iLuv has a removable Blue Tooth remote that will allow for hands-free photo taking. She can easily set her phone somewhere and get a wider shot with all her friends included. Fulfilled and shipped by Amazon.
In case you haven’t noticed, kitschy ceramic stuff is quite trendy right now. The Etsy shop that sells this planter, Fruit Fly Pie, makes all their ceramic goods here in the states. If the lady you’re gifting to shops at ModCloth and diligently reads A Beautiful Mess, this planter will be right up her alley. And guess what? Succulents are all the rage too. So find a unique one, plant it, and give her a gift that will make her smile.
Slave bracelet? Sounds a little presumptive. Unless she’s a slave to love, amiright? Name aside, this is a beautiful, feminine bracelet, and offers you the option of adding one initial to the leaf on the wrist chain. This particular style might be a bit of a reach to those with more traditional tastes, but bracelets and bangles as a whole make for beautiful gifts. Those with personalization options allow you to be just that much more thoughtful. She’ll love it! Another beautiful option here.
Moving into the warmer months, you’ll find a lot of great cashmere garments on sale. While most would consider cashmere to be a winter wardrobe staple, certain pieces make for great summer options. Cashmere is lightweight and doesn’t hold onto moisture. This cashmere short-sleeved sweater sold by Nordstrom is a beautiful light green color (Ivory is also available), and looks sheer enough to wear even in the warmest of climates. Sizes are a bit limited on the Nordstrom option. J. Crew has a nice, long-sleeved option (25% off with SOGOOD) if you’ve got some cash to burn.
The weather is taking a turn for the better, and swimsuit season is almost upon us. For girls, a swimsuit cover-up is the equivalent of a t-shirt for a guy. It’s just something to slip on to get from point A to point B if you don’t want to just traipse around in a bikini (did I just hear some boos?). There are lots of options out there, but these two from Ann Taylor (LOFT is the kid sister to AT) fit the bill. White, so they deflect sun, and they’re cute.
This is on the more practical end of the gift giving spectrum. Practical gifts are things you’ve heard her say she wants, but she might view as too pricey or indulgent. (As Dappered reader Tzvi says, “The biggest gift of all is paying [gosh darn] attention to her.” Can I get an amen?) For a lot of women, Coach is synonymous with great quality and a little bit of indulgence. Has she wanted a new iPhone case? Does she love designer items, but views buying them as too expensive/impractical? This might be the perfect middle ground….or gateway drug?
Even if you think this gift is a cop out, warmer temps mean girls are thinking about the nails on their sandal clad feet, and they want them cleaned up and painted. And there’s no comparison between getting a pedicure from a professional and doing it at home; the professional one will always look better, last longer, plus a massage is thrown in the mix. A gift certificate for a mani/pedi is the perfect way for your gal to pamper herself and get those footsies looking awesome for summer. A twofer!
Unless you know the woman you’re giving to has no interest in stud earrings, they’re a fairly safe bet. And these studs from Kate Spade come in an array of colors, so you can try and make it personal by choosing a color she likes. These are 1/2″ square studs, so they’re not tiny. For a better idea on size, Nordstrom’s site has a photo of a model wearing them. A good basic gift for a girl.
