Spring/Summer weather is FINALLY showing its gorgeous head. Bust out those unconstructed blazers! Take those socks off! Borat Bikini’s and boat shoes are trending hard as hell right now and I got three colors!
Uniqlo’s Linen Cotton Blazer is about as inexpensive as it gets, while still being suitable for this upcoming weather bliss we’re about to get in bed with. But that doesn’t mean it’s flawless…
Yep, it’s a UNIQLO. (size shown: Small on a 5’7″ frame)
Fabric makeup is 63% linen and 37% cotton. It’s perfect for this warmer weather but not too light to where you feel naked. Yes, it wrinkles. Fast. But that’s to be expected with a linen (or mostly linen) garment. Unstructured and comfortably lightweight. But it’s not so lightweight that it feels cheap. That’s comforting for first timers getting a blazer like this.
They’ve got a few solid colors and patterns available, and I opted for the solid navy in small to replace my lost cotton blazer from H&M (how the hell do you lose a blazer?). It’s a staple in every man’s wardrobe that just goes with everything. We all know this and it’ll probably never change… so why not get one in a fabric appropriate for each season? (editor’s note: just try not to get hooked)
The tail on this thing is considerably shorter and possibly chopped, but being that I’m shorter (5’7), it doesn’t look all that irregular. If you’re a tall fella, you better be good with the chopped look.
Button stance is…high. No way around it. I always heard about how these Uniqlo blazers can be and now I’m witnessing this first hand. The button stance is almost taller than I am!
Sleeves are a tad long and they also seem wider/looser than other blazers. Fabric’s fairly loose around my wrists and I’ll definitely get this to a tailor soon. The inclusion of non functioning buttons will make it a breeze to get the sleeve length altered, but the sleeves seem a little loose compared to the rest of the jacket’s proportions. Again, nothing to really be a deal breaker, but it’s the little things.
Now, for a $70 blazer (and often on sale for $50) this is a good buy. JUST good. Nothing really negative about this product honestly, however, there’s also nothing that really stands out either. It came to do what it needed to do and it succeeded with no real problems, but this isn’t something you’ll be bragging to your friends about. Maybe go for one of the patterned alternatives to get that extra snap, crackle, and pop.
