J. Crew Windowpane Italian Wool-Cotton Suit = $314.98 ($576) w/ FRESHSALE
Windowpane, peak lapels, a ticket pocket, and a wool/cotton spring & summer ready fabric.
Too much going on there?
This would have to be maybe, what… not less than the 5th suit in a guy’s collection? This is a suit that gets purchased after someone knocks out the standard navy, charcoal, a medium grey, maybe a pinstripe, etc… It’s certainly not a foundation type of suit. Yet for all that’s going on with it, it still isn’t completely crazy. Hey, it’s not some in your face Suitsupply number.
NOT final sale. So, that helps.
Lined in bemberg, solid half-canvas construction, and the Ludlow cut that many (but not all) favor. One drawback for the thicker legged among us is that the pants are only available in the slim option. And if you’ve got calf muscles, look out. Their slim pant is real tapered from the knee down, so you might have a hard time getting in these. No word on the % of wool to cotton makeup either, but since this isn’t final sale, it can be returned.
Thoughts? Too out there? Leave it all in the comments…
This is part of the 30% or 50% off select items code FRESHSALE that expires tomorrow. Didn’t see this suit late last week when it launched, so perhaps it’s a new addition to the sale section?
its like j crew designed a suit for macys
As someone who makes a point of swinging through Macy’s every so often… I WISH their suits looked more like this (but, I see what you’re saying)
Solid pass. And note to anyone considering, if you’re willing to spend $350 on this kind of suit, raise the bar and get this:

I don’t know if those are a fair comparison. To me, they’re pretty different (notch vs, peak, all linen vs. a most likely much less wrinkle prone wool + cotton) And… $315 isn’t $469. I prefer the Suitsupply myself. Think I made that clear, but I don’t know if these two are really in the same class.
Do You Need MUSIC
Any suggestions on a solid wool suit that’s wearable in the spring/summer. I’m also a bit too broad for the ludlow fit.
It would look like I’m walking on sausages. Too bad… the suit is quite fetching.
Luckily, I have no calf muscles. That said, I’m still going to pass on this one. All I can think of looking at this is that the guy should have some sort of bar graphs on his back.
Ha! Best quarterly report presentation… ever.
That’s a $150 price difference. Even if the materials and style points were much more similar, they’d still be in different classes. The SS suit is ~48% more expensive than the J.Crew suit. If we’re talking about suits in the $1,000 range, a $1,000 suit might well be in the same class as a $1,150 suit, but that’s not the case here.
48% cotton, 52% wool.
Seconding the disappointment with JCrew skipping out on the Ludlow Classic suit pants. They’ve done it for a number of their more interesting suits in the last few months, and while it hasn’t been a deciding factor for anything yet, I’ll be really annoyed when there’s something I really want & I can’t get the regular Ludlow pants.
Now, as you can see, sales have been steadily improving . . .
