Banana Republic: Up to 50% Off Sale + codes
BRMARCH30 = 30% off $150+ for everyone, but won’t work on blazers.
BRMARCH = 30% off no min. for cardmembers, and it DOES work on blazers.
This one is a little complicated, but it’s sorta rare and certainly worth a amention. B.R. has a smallish “select items” sale going on right now (166 items) but there are some good markdowns on a few blazers and other staples. Yes, blazers. Blazers, which are always excluded from codes. That said, BR is running a 30% off $150+ code: BRMARCH30. Now, that one won’t apply to a blazer purchase, but if you’ve got a BR/GAP/ON credit card, BRMARCH will, in fact, knock an extra 30% off these on-sale blazers (and other stuff) through today, 3/10.
Tailored Fit Cotton Navy Herringbone Blazer – $155.60
($250)
And this drops to an awfully nice $108 if you’ve got a BR/GAP/ON credit card and use the extra 30% off code BRMARCH. In their trimmer, but not tight “tailored fit”. Button stance on these blazers is fantastic, the tail isn’t chopped, and the fabrics are usually pretty decent. Armholes can be low, they’re fused and sometimes stiff, but overall they’re great for the mid $100s price range. No final sale either, so it’s returnable. All sizes available at post time.
Slim-Fit Stretch Poplin – $35
($59.50) | Tailored Slim-Fit Dot Print – $24 ($69.50)
The slim fit poplin is basically 40% off, while the dot-print button down is way more than half off. Tailored-Slim = their slimmest fit too. So if you’re looking to try out the dot “Trend” on a slim shirt without a huge investment, this might be worth a shot. The white poplin is going to fit a little looser, but it’s still a great basic and holds up well over time. Dot print shirt drops to $16.80 and white poplin drops to $24.50 if you’re a card holder and use BRMARCH at checkout.
Vintage Straight Grey Jean – $55.00
($89.50)
A slim straight fit that most can agree on. 5-pocket style but in a grey wash. Wear it with that white poplin and the navy herringbone blazer and you’ve got a more casual, updated, but still plenty polished take on the grey/white/blue classic color palate outfit. $38.50 for these jeans if you have a card.
Linen/Cotton Modern Slim-Fit Chambray Blazer – $179
($198)
Not much of a markdown here, but it drops to $125.30 if you’ve got a card and use BRMARCH. The “Modern Slim” fit is noticeably slimmer than the tailored slim through the body and especially through the arms. Might want to size UP if you’re a tweener. 52% Linen, 36% Cotton, 12% Polyester makes up the chambray(?) fabric. Nice patch pockets here. Alas, the description does say “fully lined”, so it might not work the best in super-hot weather.
Heritage Shawl Collar Knit Jacket – $110.00
($130)
When you’ve got an item with a defining detail… such as a shawl collar, it’d be nice to actually SEE what that detail looks like in the online photos. The mock-neck collar on the sweater is getting more than a little bit in the way. $77 if you’ve got a card and use BRMARCH.
Tailored-Fit Cotton Sateen Blazer – $149.00
($198)
Sadly, the true-navy shade doesn’t get the $50 discount, but this lighter “nautical” blue might make a nice brighter, yet not neon addition to someone’s closet. The “sateen” sheen on the navy is minimal if there at all. Not sure about the nautical blue though. $104.30 w/ a card and the BRMARCH code.
Quilted Blue Bomber Jacket – $115.50
w/ BRMARCH30 ($198)
Whoa. Speaking of more in-your-face shades of blue… On sale for $165, so the 30% off $150 for everyone code BRMARCH30 knocks it down to $115.50
Tailored-Fit Taupe Herringbone Cotton Blazer – $180
($250)
A shade and pattern that you’d expect to be cut in wool… but it’s cotton. That’s sorta what BR does (and to many, they excel) when it comes to the blazer game. A nice staple all the same. $126 w/ a card and the BRMARCH code.
The extra 30% off $150+ (blazers excluded) BRMARCH30 code, as well as the 30% off for cardmembers BRMARCH code expire today, 3/10/14.
Something to keep in mind is that this year’s BR cotton/cotton-blend blazers have almost universally gone to full linings with 100% polyester backs and sleeves, while the fronts are a poly blend.
I asked BR customer service about Tailored-Fit Herringbone Cotton Blazer, Tailored-Fit Cotton Sateen Blazer, Tailored-Fit Khaki Micro-Stripe Blazer, and Tailored-Fit Twill Blazer.
Been eyeing a dot-print shirt at JCrew, but couldn’t force myself to spend that much. At $17 with a BR card, it’s worth a gamble. Thanks!
Good thing I have a 50% off F&F code for March 13-17.
That’s been the case, if I’m not mistaken, for awhile. One of the major drawbacks to BR blazers is their almost always all poly linings.
That said, I’ve got two I have in major rotation and love em’.
I haven’t been able to try on the Modern Slim fit blazers yet, but if the arms are noticeably slimmer, that is definitely the way to go for slim/skinny guys. I stupidly bought a few of the Tailored Fit blazers about a year ago – the arms are too bulky, the arm holes are much too low, the chest could come in a bit and the seat is too large. For reference, I’m 6’1″, 175 lbs, 18.5″ shoulder, 16″ neck, 40″ chest, 33.5″ waist, 35.5″ sleeve, 12.75″ bicep. I went with the 40R.
Yep, I believe all mine are lined too. I would love them too if they fit me properly (my own fault for buying blazers that didn’t fit correctly).
Banana Republic’s Tailored-Slim Fit shirts are currently my most favorite shirts because they fit perfectly on my athletic slim build. I have broad shoulders but a very small waist so finding shirts that fit is extremely difficult. I’m probably in between a Medium and a Small. Previously, only Lands End Canvas shirts fit me well without tailoring. I’m stoked that BR has the Tailored-Slim Fit line.
That’s my issue per say. I fit closer to a XS in the slim line but the chest and arm length are a little small. So I plan to try on a tailored slim in small. Maybe that will solve those issues.
Was hoping to see that gray twill tailored-fit blazer in the sale section, oh well, $100 still in my pocket.
i used to think that BR tailored slim fit is one of the best fitting OTR shirts there is. i recently tried on Lacoste slim fit shirts, they fit even better. so until you see something better, you never know the fit can be even better than what you have seen. they are $125 a piece, so i won’t ever buy it, but do try it on if you go into a store sometime.
Hmm…interesting. I will have to check it out. I don’t really like logos so the Lacoste logo bugs me. But I’m definitely a sucker for well fitted shirts.
frankly nothing good this time. considering sometimes the 40% off code can be combined with the 25% email signup.
one thing worth noting is that if you see something on sale for a good price in a store, you can call the store to reserve it(when you are outside the store at least), and then they will take $10 off when you buy it. i just got this for $14 today, although not sure why i need it.

very true the logo and bright colors (they do also have white) render it not usable for the most formal occasions. but on me it does fit better than BR TSF. after trying on that, i now see there is quite a bit bunching and unsmoothness with the BR shirt on me.
The choice strikes me as a little odd; a key point of cotton is a lighter, cooler fabric for warmer temperatures. This clashes with the choice of lining, especially when contrasted against their cotton/linen suits with viscose/poly linings.
I’ve actually found a couple other 100% cotton shirts which are even better for guys with a large drop who demand high armholes.
Calvin Klein ck, which carry a grey label, are carried by Moore’s in Canada. Not sure where to find them in the US, though Men’s Warehouse bought Moore’s a few years ago. These are a better fabric and cut than the Steel, Body or white label slim and extreme slim you’d find in department stores under the Calvin Klein name. Nominally pried at $95, but regularly on sale at 2-for-1 our half-off.
The other are Black Brown 1826 Slim. Available at the Hudson’s Bay Store in Canada, or its US Lord & Taylor subsidiary. Nominal price is $75, but again sales are common.
Recently discovered Black & Brown. Frequently on sale at lord and taylor. Egyptian Cotton. Fits great.Their pants are a bit funky – rise to waist to inseam ratio is weird, but the shirts are great.
It’s a cost thing for BR, I’m sure.
I think they’re running 40% off online with BRFORTY through tomorrow.
Any in person opinions on the shawl collar jacket? I’m intrigued.
Has anyone ever had the lining removed from their jacket? I’m wondering if that would be a plausible option as I have the Sateen and the Micro-Stripe blazers arriving from BR this week.
Today, the dot-print shirt got knocked down to $14 for everyone with the 40% code they have. I just got mine adjusted down from $24.
Poor fabric choices usually are. My sateen blazer from last year uses viscose/poly for the upper lining and sleeves, while the lower body is lined in cotton.
Actually I’m finding it a little loose, so if anyone is interested in a nautical blue 38S, let me know.
Awesome! I love hearing about new slim fitting shirts! The fact that BR of all stores pleases me tells me that there are probably a whole bunch of different slim fit shirts out there with much better quality to be had. Thanks!
