Best Affordable Style of 2013 – The Sale

The end of the year means it’s time to hand out some awards.  No, there’s no little statues to pass along, but over the next few days we’ll still highlight some of the best in affordable men’s style from this past year.  And it was a good one. Feel free to send in additional nominations here.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale

Just a few of the items from this past summer’s particularly solid Anniversary Sale.

It’s Christmas in July for many of us. Nordstrom doesn’t often do sales, but when they do, they’re absolutely worth paying attention to. The Anniversary Sale runs towards the end of each summer (mid July – Early August) and puts many items from the upcoming fall collection on sale. Once the clock runs out on the sale, prices go back up. For a very long time.

These are high quality, but still attainable for most, goods that get greatly appreciated price cuts. Allen Edmonds dip to the low $200s. Red Wings can fall to $199 or less. Nordstrom house brand shirts end up around $40. Even higher end designers like Billy Reid and Bruno Magli are included. Plus since it’s Nordstrom, everything ships and returns free.

Also Receiving Votes: Allen Edmonds Outlet 2nds Sales. The every-so-often Banana Republic 40% off one-item Wednesdays. Whenever a Ludlow suit or blazer would hit the J. Crew sale section and an extra 30% off sale items code would launch. The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale(s) for Men. Brooks Brothers Annual 5-Days of Giving event (Dec.), especially the day when accessories are 40% off.

Don’t forget the (unintentional?) JCrew 25%-off-everything-including-Ludlow-and-Alden sale! Really hoping that one becomes an annual thing…

Not the Suitsupply outlet?! Nordstrom’s deals are okay (and that’s being nice). They pale in comparison, though, with the $200-$400 off higher-quality merch that was available in November and December–and need I remind you that those were suits/jackets/sweaters/shoes that never, ever go on sale?

Yup, Suitsupply outlet gets my vote. (I know we’re not voting).

Suit Supply is great and all, but not everyone is in need of a suit. The Nordstrom sale hits all the other avenues of menswear – shirts, pants, shoes, accessories, etc. By far the best sale, IMO.

How did BR 40% off sale not get the award?! (joking) Its every wednesday

Yes, but Suitsupply also sells other clothing as well. I picked up two shirts from Suitsupply for around $50 each and they are the best fitting dress shirts I have ever found.
