Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
B.R.: Select Blazers sale / 40% off full price for cardmembers w/ BRCARD
The Picks: Tailored Fit Black Cord Blazer – $149 ($198), Modern Fit (slimmest fit) Wool Blackwatch Navy – $179
($250), Tailored Fit Cotton Blazer – $135
IF you have a card ($225)
Banana Republic shut the code faucet off for their blazers a lonnnnng time ago. It’s been awhile since a code could actually be applied to blazers, suit jackets, or “BR Picks”, since those dang things are always excluded in the fine print. But not this time. If you’ve got a Banana Republic, GAP, or Old Navy credit card, the code BRCARD knocks 40% off full priced merchandise with almost no exclusions. But that’s the key. It has to be full price. And that’s actually good for non cardmembers. Banana Republic has launched a pre-emptive sale strike on their blazers, marking most of them down by 25%-30%. That way, the 40% off code for cardmembers can’t be used. Limits the 40% off damage. Smart. Bad for Cardmembers, good for everyone else. If you are a cardmember, note that there are a few blazers that remain at full price, so the code works on them. Solid price on that black cord blazer, which is a great alternative to velvet.
Brooks Brothers: 5 Days of Giving (30% off suits + blazers today)
Even with 30% off, Brooks Brothers suiting and sportcoats are still awfully spendy for most of us. BUT, with that said… keep an eye on Brooks Brothers over the next few days. They always do 30% – 40% off different categories. One of which is almost always accessories. That’s a huge price cut on their expensive yet oustanding snap cufflinks, as well as their Filson gear if it’s up for the discount. Here’s what happened last year… no idea if it’ll be the same this year.
J. Crew: Extra 30% off Sale Items w/ WINTERSALE
The Picks: Slim Merino V-Necks – $47.67 ($78), Broadmoor Quilted Vest – $69.99 ($138), Lambswool Shawl Collar – $48.65 ($79.50), Double O Ring Chisel Point Belt – $27.99 ($59)
Remember when J. Crew wasn’t always running some kind of promotion? Those days are gone. But that’s good if you’re willing to play the game. Nice to see the slim merino V-necks in a bunch of standard colors hit the sale section.
Bonobos: Extra 25% off Sale Items w/ SPRUCEDUP
The Picks: Washed Chino Blazer in “Dark Denim” or Olive – $111 ($195), Wine French Corders in Straight or Slim Straight – $58.50 ($125), Slim Merino Crew in Charcoal or Marled Blue – $43.50 ($98)
Don’t get spooked by the “dark denim” name for that blazer’s color… it’s still washed chino. And it’s not even that dark of a blue for denim. It’s more of a true blue, and could be worn with… wait for it… dark denim.
STP / The Small Foot Special: Red Wing 2nds
The Picks: Red Wing Heritage 9105 – $103.12 w/ ALNOV3 ($250), Red Wing Heritage 9017 Beckman Chukkas – $140.25 w/ ALNOV3 ($340)
Just sizes 7.5, 8, 8.5, and 9 at post time in the Heritage 9105 round toe. 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13 for the Chukka. 2nds quality, but c’mon. A hundred bucks for a pair of Red Wings? Nuts. ALNOV3 is good for 25% off $125+. Check the STP facebook page. They’re running a 30% off no minimum code if you jump through some hoops.
BONUS Nordstrom: Select Allen Edmonds 15% – 25% off
- Strand in Brown, Black, or Walnut – $258.75 ($345)
- Park Ave. in Brown, Merlot, or Black – $258.75 ($345)
- McAllister Wingtip in Merlot, Walnut, or Black – $258.75 ($345)
- Dalton in Burnished Walnut – $296.25 ($395)
- Vernon in Black – $258.75 ($345)
Well that’s a nice surprise. Doesn’t look like this is Nordstrom price-matching an Allen Edmonds sale, but instead, they’re running their own 15%-25% off sale through Monday 12/7. And don’t sleep on the Vernon in Black. Just enough “weird” to keep a black shoe interesting. Big fan of the McAllister wingtip in merlot. Free shipping & Free Returns as always through Nordstrom. Many thanks to Jay I. and Matt for the style tips on the AE / Nordstrom Sale…
Also worth a mention
- Gilt: They launched a Jack Spade sale today.
- Nordstrom: Their Designer Clearance event is underway. Y’know, in case you want to sped $150 on a Dopp kit.
- J. Crew Factory: Prices are marked down 40% – 60% off and you can get an extra 15% off + free shipping w/12DAYS through tomorrow 12/6.

- J. Crew has Launched a 30% off select items event. Redwings, the Filson Brief in Navy, and more are 30% off with the code PRESENTS. Many thanks to Sterling R. for the tip.
So tempted to grab that washed chino blazer in olive. I have gray and navy and have been ridiculously pleased with how versatile they are.
Sadly, those boots are not small enough, I’m a 6.5-7. Anyway, STP is very bad with duties and other fees for Canadians.

How good is that Macy’s code? Might we get something better? The code works on a pair of boots that I was gonna get my fiancee.
YMMV, but I just got the full 40% off on a the Modern Fit Double Face blazer, knocking it down to $113, even though it was already marked down from $275 to $189.
I bought that BR Blackwatch Navy blazer about a month at 40% off. Their “Modern Fit” blazers in size 38R fit me PERFECTLY. Awesome blazer for winter dinner parties.
The chukkas are already down to nothing but size 8.
What does YMMV mean? Your Mileage May Vary? LoL. Im confused, so you used two codes at checkout? Please explain 🙂
Yeah, your mileage may vary, meaning that I wasn’t sure if it would work for everyone. I used two codes: BRCARD for 40% off, and SILVER13 for another 15% of the resulting price.
One word of warning on the BB sale. BB dress trousers are a good deal at $168 marked down to $117 if you’re going to buy only one pair, but BB normally does a deal where you can normally get two pairs for under $200 (I paid $170 for two pair a few weeks ago). So, if you’re intending to buy more than one pair thinking 30% off is a steal, keep in mind the normal deal is actually cheaper.
Hey joe – what do you think of combatant gentlemen stuff – cheap pricing, (they’ve gone with the “twenty jeans” model of skipping the middleman – but are they cheap in design too?
Well damn, it. Thanks for the tip! SILVER13 stacks like a champ.
Looks like the 40% percent off is working on other discounted blazers as well. It also stacks with the 25% off email code so I just got the Textured Navy Cotton Blazer for $76.06. Not bad considering the list price is $250.
Come check out Dappered Threads. There is a thread dedicated to the Combatant Gentlemen in which the CEO has been very helpful and active. Not sure if anyone has received theirs and reviewed it yet, but worth taking a look at the thread.
I picked up the BR Black Cord Blazer about a month ago (wearing it today actually). I don’t know what’s wrong with their photography, but the only pic that shows it close to the true color (black) is the one displaying the inner pocket.
I don’t like black for any clothing anymore, but I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this blazer so far. It’s pretty warm so for those in-between temps in the 50s, I’m covered with this and can still wear it comfortably indoors at a bar or shopping when it’s warmer.
Banana Republic has 40% off if you buy any two full-priced items. I bought a pair of wool slacks and dress socks for $60 on my lunch break today.
Drats, those Bonobos Chino Blazers look pretty cropped…
Just an FYI for anyone in the market for socks, specifically argyle socks. Express is have a $25 off $75 sale through tomorrow (Sunday, Dec 7th). On top of that socks have a deal going for 4 pairs for $25. So I was in the need, and really liked the variety/styles they had, so I went big and grabbed 12 pairs ($75 total). The discounts knocked it down to $50 total (bought in store, but add $8 for shipping if online) which came to $4.17/pair! Felt like a killer deal if you want to stock up on argyle socks like I did.
