Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
NOTE: Since these are happening the week of Black Friday… it might be worthwhile to sit tight for Friday and Cyber Monday. But who knows about sizes and selection when we get there.
Bonobos: Extra 30% off sale w/ FALL30 (EXP 11/25)
The Picks: Merino SLIM Sweaters in V-Neck (Camel, Wine) or Crew-Neck (Black, Navy, Charcoal, Marled Blue) – $54.60 ($98) The Nottingham Blazer in Navy Tweed – $180.60 ($368)
A good injection of new items in the sale section + an extra 30% off = these might move fast. The sweaters are still a little pricey, but they come in a slimmer cut, and that’s a big deal. That navy tweed blazer just might be the steal of the season, if it drapes better than the option J. Crew is producing. Code expires today, 11/25/13.
Amazon: 25% off Select Shoes w/ BFSHOE25
The Picks: To Boot New York Aaron in Black – $112.12 ($299), Clark’s Bushacre 2 Desert Boot – $55ish
($106), Cole Haan Air Madison Single Monk – $143.36
($248)
No minimum to spend, and it looks like it should work for everyone? The To Boot New York Aaron in Black might be the best price on a high quality dress shoe out there. Toes look square-ish online, but in person they’re more rounded off (not a traditional round toe, but still, not so choppy). Grippy rubber sole. Made in Italy. The “antique tan” option will run you just under $170, but $112 for a pair of TBNY is pretty unheard of. UPDATE: Black are all but sold out now.
J. Crew: 25% of w/ GETGIFTING
The Picks: Dock Peacoat – $163.50 ($218), Ludlow Sportcoat in Windowpane – $261 ($368), Slim rustic merino elbow-patch shawl collar – $74.99 ($128)
This code is set to expire tomorrow, 11/26… so you have to think something else is coming for the Thanksgiving Weekend and/or Black Friday. But the risk is missing out on your size in whatever item you’re looking at. Is it likely? Probably not. But one of us (right here) is kicking himself for missing out on the Ludlow Velvet Shawl Collar. Usual exclusions apply on this one, so most Ludlow Suiting is out, but blazers are fair game. Dock Peacoat is already on sale for a nice price. Sportcoat is a new arrival, still pricey, but that windowpane pattern is awfully unique even though it’s classic. Unless it’s an item you’re dying to get, and stock appears to be getting low, it might be worth it to wait for Friday/Monday.
Nordstrom Rack “opens online” at Hautelook?
The Picks: Emporio Armani Rectangular Case Watch – $132.00 ($245), Magnanni Baril Oxford – $209 ($395), Magnanni Misto Oxford – $199 ($375), Tom Ford Sunglasses – $142.99 ($409)
Hautelook is one of those sites like Gilt. You have to hand over an email address to get access to the timed sales. But Hautelook is also owned by Nordstrom (who, honestly, seems to get a lot of things right). They’ve just launched a “Nordstrom Rack for Hautelook” section that has goods marked down with no time restrictions. Is it just the stuff from Hautelook that didn’t sell during the original timed events? Maybe. Can’t tell quite yet. But it’s worth poking around if you’ve got a HL account. Not Black Friday or Cyber Monday releated, but needs a mention.
Ernest Alexander: 25% off & Free shipping w/ HOLIDAY25
The Picks: Bedford Waxed Overnight Bag – $348.75 ($465), Dean Chocolate Wax Flask – $37.50 ($50)
Hat tip to our man Christian for sending this tip in. Good now through Cyber Monday. That waxed flask set looks like the perfect gift for the guy who likes to take a drink on the run (or, walk/stroll). Ernest Alexander stuff isn’t cheap, but it’s made in the USA and built to last. Full review of the Bedford Overnight bag over here.
BONUS: Club Monaco: 30% off Sale Items w/ THANKS30
The Pick: Merino Shawl Collar – $62.30 ($129.50), Made in the USA Twill Sportcoat – $111.30 ($395), Made in the USA Wool Charcoal Blazer – $160.30 ($575)
This code is good through Friday, so it appears to be, at least in part, their Black Friday offer… but who knows if they’ll add something in addition later on.
Also worth a mention
- Allen Edmonds: They’ve launched their black Friday sale early, and it includes the new Hale Oxford at $239.
- Billy Reid: 20% off sitewide w/ GETTHEDETAILS (hat tip) starting wed 11/27.
- Bloomingdale’s: Big Brown Bag Sale + $25 off $200 you spend online (exclusions apply).
- Brooks Brothers: 30% off select sweaters through Cyber Monday.
- Christopher Ward: 15% off their popular Trident collection w/ TRIDENT15 ends today (11/25)
- Ralph Lauren: They’re taking an extra 25% off select on sale goods. Prices are marked.
- Timberland: $20 off footwear + 30% off w/ GOBBLE13 (ends 11/26)
Bit of a warning on the JCrew slub merino, having purchased 2 of their slim elbow-patch v-necks in the fabric: They say that it’s “more plush than your typical merino but just as soft and warm”. Not really true. It feels much more like lambswool – so not as soft as the finer merino, but thicker and warmer. The other thing: it pills. A lilly brush attack and a hand wash later they’re still very wearable and nice, but know what you’re getting into.
Hmmm. You sure? Their foundation suit jacket is a half canvas: https://dappered.com/2013/08/win-it-the-bonobos-foundation-suit-in-standard-or-slim/ Felt like it too. Moved extremely well.
For what it’s worth, Jos. A Bank is offering 60%-70% off with code PREVIEW for today only. I stocked up on some shoe trees mega cheap
$10/piece. Not bad.
It’s definitely not bad, but on some of their better sales I’ve gotten the trees at $7.50 each.
Yea, they had that 70% off sale about a month ago. Missed that one. Unfortunately (for my wallet), I did not miss a few other sales on shoes!
Just grabbed the black To Boot. They were part of a select few shoes on Amazon at 50% off before the extra 25%. Would have loved the tans but they were stuck at $299 less the 25%. Thanks for the tip.
I’m already overwhelmed with sales and they haven’t even started yet.
Man, I really want to pick up that Club Monaco sweater. Everything at that store fits me like a glove. But, obviously, Quebec residents will never have access to their website *rolls eyes*
Anyone know when that Amazon code expires? Can it be stacked with an email code?
Last time I checked with the Ninjas I was told all of their Wool suiting was half canvassed. That would have been last Spring when I asked.
The ninja last week told me that the blazer above was “partially fused.” I assumed that meant half-canvassed, but the chest pieces didn’t really seem to float at all. That, in addition to being slightly more cropped than I hoped led me to return it. I actually have one of those windowpane J Crew blazers on the way.
I’ve not had to buy a lot of new clothes for a while now, so let me ask the good people here which is likely to be cheaper – Black Friday sales or Boxing Day (or post-Xmas) sales? I’ve had fantastic luck after Xmas (especially when I wait at least a couple of weeks afterward) but I hear so much about Black Friday (which could just be hype)…
FYI saw those Magnanni Misto Oxford at my local Rack and they are more orange in person than on the site. Build quality was excellent however.
The post-Xmas sales are going to have better prices, but you may have trouble finding a particular item in your size. So if you really want a particular item, and you wear a very common size, you may be better off grabbing it now. Or roll the dice and see if you can get a better deal in a month. I’ve found some outstanding deals after the holidays…
I bought the Ernst Alexander flask last year for my brother for Christmas. Be warned: It looks pretty good, but it’s pretty big in size, the leather is tough to put on if/once taken off, and it feels cheap. I was pretty disappointed (however, my brother was happy with it!).
Also note, target is having a 40% off sweater sale. Almost as good as waiting until the end of the season
I got excited about the To Boot New York Aaron in black, as I need a quality black dress shoe (for a decent price) to wear with suits. But I need a 9.5, and they only have 7.5 and 13 left in stock. Oh well. Might just have to suck it up for a pair of AEs.
J Crew is offering 30 percent off to card members – anyone know if that stacks with the 25 percent off code?
Interesting… Thanks for the info on that. Suit jacket was confirmed as half-canvassed before our giveaway during reader appreciation week, and it felt like it too. Wonder if they’re using a hybrid process like indochino used to use?
Whoa. Uh… yeah. Good call.
Granted this is only for one specific item, but the Blue Claw Co. Schiphol Utility bag is on sale right now. Normally priced $285, it’s going for $200 right now. Free domestic shipping. This will be my new work bag, and also double as an overnight bag until I can get one of their weekenders. It’s a serious discount, and I have no idea how long the sale will last.
I just asked a ninja and they said that the foundation suit is fused.
Didn’t know where to put this but the Bonobos Tweed blazer is $118.00 with code THEHUNT.
I asked on Halloween 2013 about their foundation suits. They said the suits are fused.
