Macy’s One Day Sale
Picks. Free shipping at $75 w/ SHIP
As “The Young Garifo” put it in the comments of their Store Wars loss: “I’ve come to realize that Macy’s is like Nordstrom’s little brother that wears way too many graphic tees and crappy jeans but occasionally rocks something fresh.” For whatever reason, you’ve got to do some hunting with Macy’s these days. And the days to do that hunting is almost always during their One Day Sales, when prices bottom out for the most part. Here’s some of the best from their current O.D.S. Items marked with a * are “Web Busters.” In store prices may or may not match up. Selection on all items (especially shoes) in store can vary greatly.
Bar III Velvet Sportcoat – $95.99* ($350)
From the trendiest (yet still wearable) Macy’s house brand. LOOK AT THOSE SKINNY LAPELS THERE. Total dealbreaker for some. But it’s velvet. You’re already taking risks. Looks like it has a ticket pocket? Maybe? Also available in a red shade with a contrasting black collar back that’s just… well… good for you if you can pull that look off.
Timex Intelligent Linear Chrono in Black Ion or Stainless + Tan – $131.62 ($195)
The Macy’s watch department and its prices almost always gets SMOKED by Amazon. But every once in awhile they somehow jump up and bite the big Bezos in the behind. But it’s rare. These fall under that “rare” category. New design, looks great, was just $136 on Amazon with a code that not everyone could use.
Calvin Klein X Fit 3-Piece Suits in Maroon or Navy – $193.38* ($650)
Like almost all things at Macy’s, the $650 retail price is laughable (since these things are fused). But low $200s for a slim fit, 3-piece isn’t a bad deal. Calvin Klein fabric is usually pretty decent too. This one is a wool/poly/mohair blend. The Maroon is obviously awfully trendy, but there’s potential with the blue. A warning on the fit: These allegedly fit VERY trim. So, tread carefully if you’ve got some beef on your frame. Meanwhile, for a navy suit in a darker shade with a little more room at the sides, there’s this 2-piece from CK in their normal “slim fit” for the same price.
NOTE: Use TXTCLB to take an extra 15% off the sale price to get the price reflected above. Good on purchases $100+, but there are a ton of exclusions.
Michael Kors Suit in Navy or Charcoal Plaid – $125.79* ($495)
Meanwhile, for those who are a little worried about skinny lapels looking out of place where they work (or play)… Michael Kors offers more traditional suits in both layout and fit. They’re not slim fits, but usually they’ve got a bit of taper at the sides. There’s some shoulder padding, but it hasn’t been too awful in the past. A decently made suit that doesn’t take too many risks for $150. Ships free, returns free in store.
NOTE: Use TXTCLB to take an extra 15% off the sale price to get the price reflected above.
Kenneth Cole New York Trim Fit Suit in Grey or Charcoal Pindot – $192.94* ($650)
Probably the safest play for most guys. A decently trim (but not tight) fit off the rack, lapels that aren’t razor thin, and decent construction for a fused suit. The button stance on KCNY suits are usually pretty timeless too, although some who like the lower slung Ludlow-look might find them too high. Ticket pocket on the lighter grey, and an (alleged? Can’t see it online) pindot pattern on the charcoal. Light grey is a wool blend, while the charcoal just says “wool”. Knowing Macys.com descriptions though, that might mean wool-blend. KCNY is usually all wool or mainly wool. It’s the Kenneth Cole REACTION suits that you want to stay away from, since those are all synthetic.

Tommy Hilfiger Dopp Kit – $26.99* ($55)
Simple. Four color combos to chose from. Something to toss in your cart if you’re shy of the $75 free shipping threshold with the code SHIP.
“Retrofit” Cotton/Acrylic Shawl Collar Colorblock Sweater – $34.99* ($50)
One of the better looking sweaters Macy’s has put out in awhile. Works off the colorblock trend while still remaining muted. Has some marling to the cotton/acrylic fabric.
Kenneth Cole Quilted Jacket – $79.99* | Perry Ellis Quilted Jacket – $79.99*
Couple of all poly quilted jackets that have potential. Nice looking shade to the wool-like fabric and cord collar on the Kenneth Cole Option. Both of these actually ship free, since Macy’s has temporarily lowered their free-shipping threshold to $75 from $99. You’ll need the code SHIP to get it sent your way for free.
Hilfiger Suede Contrast Loop Belts – $21.99*($45)
Potential at twenty two bucks (before shipping of course). Nice touch with the contrast suede on the keeper loop. The grey + goldish tone nickel belt looks especially tempting.
Tommy Hilfiger Peak Lapel Tux Jacket + Tux Pant – $233.73
The Hilfiger Trim Fit Tux is about as low in quality & construction as you’re going to want to go if you’re making the leap to purchasing a tuxedo. Hilfiger suit jacket shoulders can be a little strong, but in the black tie realm that’s not out of place. Bow tie would look better here too. Still going to look better than anyone in a rental, by miles, if you get this tailored up for your body. Also available in a notch lapel, and a slightly awkward looking shawl (button stance looks a little high) collar. Update: See Siepi’s comment. Maybe it’s not so awkwardly high.
NOTE: Use TXTCLB to take an extra 15% off the sale price to get the price reflected above.
Persol Folding Sunglasses in Brown Tortoise or Tan Tortoise – $249.98 ($360)
Y’know what’s silly? Dropping a quarter of a grand on one pair of sunglasses. Y’know what are really awesome? Persol’s line of folding shades. Man are they someting. $250 something? That’s up to you. But it’s honestly a pretty decent price.
Bar II Blazers in Charcoal Check or Burgundy Tweed – $94.99
The slimmest brand carried by Macy’s. The charcoal’s description says “wool”, while the wine/burgundy option is a wool poly blend. Just shy of the extra 15% off TXTCLB threshold, but at least they ship free with SHIP.
Timberland Earthkeepers 6″ Zip in Tan – $127.49 ($170)
Honestly stunned that the TXTCLB seems to work on these. Awfully hard to find, and probably the best looking design Timberland has been putting out consistently in the last few years. Use that code for the extra 15% off the sale price. Ships free.
Fossil Retro Traveler Chronograph – $57.50 ($115)
The Retro Traveler line has to be one of the better looking designs Fossil has come out with in recent years. Just enough thickness to it, real casual, sport-influenced. Dirt cheap. Something to mix in on the weekends.
Alfani RED Grey Houndstooth Velvet Slim Fit Sportcoat – $58.99 ($250)
Ending how we started. Ensconced in velvet. Grey houndstooth check with a solid black chesterfield-overcoat-like back collar. Actually might be a solid buy for many. It’s an “Alfani Red” jacket, so chances are the armholes will be a little low. But for sixty? For a holiday party or two?
The current Macy’s One Day Sale ends today, Wednesday 11/20/13.
Still would swing by Jomashop for Timex pieces, especially the Intelligent line. They have older models but for $70, its definitely a deal.
Anybody have any luck with either quilted jacket pick? Not going to trust just one review for each on Macy’s.
I have the Kenneth Cole jacket and have gotten quite a few compliments. It’s warm for a jacket and fits perfectly. The only thing that’s confusing to me is that the corduroy collar looks brown in the picture but is actually black on the jacket I received.
I wanted these boots for a long time, but “This item is not available for shipping to Canada.”
Free returns to your local Macy’s, fyi.
Wearing those boots right now, love them. Wondering if I should get them in black…
Available for $135 after 20% off through Amazon (also has more pictures than Macy’s site). I can’t decide how I feel about the zipper though!
How is the sizing on the boots? I’m a 10 in Nike, 9 in Clarks DB’s…not sure how to size these but I’m ready to pull the trigger on them
I’m a 10.5 in almost everything and a 10.5 in mine. Had em’ for at least 3 or 4 years now.
SO…if my size 9 desert boots are just a tad snug should I stick with a 9 in these or bump up to a 9.5?
I’m a 10.5 in most things but got 10s for these boots and they fit great even with thick wool socks
Just wondering if the “Web Buster”/”One Day Special” 15% off is a major sale for them. The KC and Kors charcoal suits don’t look half bad but the pricing doesn’t seem all that amazing..esp with Black Friday coming up.
Damn dappered.com. There goes another $300. On the bright side, I got three new Kenneth Cole trim fit suits for $270 or so.
$98 + your discount code. I have a few of their sport coats already and I really like them for the price. At $84, I can’t pass up the chance to buy some less-than-traditional colored suits that I’ve been wanting, but won’t get as many wears as my charcoal or navy. Splurge on traditional, skimp on the dark brown/thin strip suit. A sweater and tie, $303 shipped!
Great, thank you. Size 9 is ordered! I’ve had my eye on these for quite some time now.
Just ordered the Tommy Hilfiger tux. With the current sale, and the discount code provide it came to $180 with tax and shipping. Not only will this be great for my upcoming wedding, but I also called my groomsmen and had them buy one instead of the rental tux’s I was planning on. It was only $30 more than a rental.
Thanks for the info. Might be a nice replacement for this Merona quilted jacket I picked up from Target for like twenty-five bucks last year. The poor thing is on the verge of falling apart, and I don’t think they carry it anymore. 🙁
I own the shawl collar Hilfiger tux, and while the button stance does look rather high in the picture on the website, it actually sits lower than that. Also, unlike the peak and notch, the shawl is a 1-button.
Excellent. Thanks for the in-person. Updated above!
Congrats on the upcoming nuptials! Quick question… $180. For both the pants and jacket? They’re sold as separates, so be sure to get the pants too.
I picked up 2 pairs of the Frye Walter lace-ups. Pretty close resemblance to the Alden Indy. They retail on the Frye site for 350$. With the Macys discount and the text code and free shipping, I got them for 150$ each. Saved 400$+ on retail. Kick butt day!
Good call. Thanks for posting that. I wasn’t paying close attention when I ordered.
Ended up cancelling and getting the Alfani Red tux instead. Pants and jacket came to $179.
Seconded. I picked this up recently and the button stance is fine.
Kenneth Cole Quilted has been awesome – tons of compliments on it, warm enough for colder weather but wearable in fall temperatures. Highly recommend
Hi Geo, thanks for the feedback. I read that thread a few weeks back, but had to take my chances. I know how that goes. I’m waiting on my third pair of LL Bean Katahdins made by Chippewa. They usually get rave reviews but I’ve been lucky enough to get two pairs of lemons so far. Hopefully I luck out with the Fryes. Seems with mass produced anything, the quality suffers. Even Aldens aren’t made as good as they were 10 years ago.
Picked up some cords from Lauren by Ralph Lauren on this sale for $25. Read that the quality is questionable for this line, but worth it for $25? Thoughts?
Thank you very much for all the info and what to keep an eye out for. I really appreciate it!
I’m 5’9″ and about 180 and the medium fit me well. I think a small would be too short for you at 5’10”.
