Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
Lands’ End / L.E.C.: 30% off everything w/ GRAND & 2055
The Picks: LEC Straight Fit Moleskin Pants – $27.99 ($70), LEC Plaid Wool Bomber – $90.99 ($250), Straight Fit Donnegal Pants – $41.99 ($99)
Lands’ End has really turned the code tap down to a dribble. 30% off almost everything (3rd party stuff like Allen Edmonds / Oak Street Bootmakers don’t get the nod) isn’t bad. Those red moleskin pants from last season are still hanging around in plenty of sizes. As is that plaid wool bomber. The donnegal pants? Also already on sale.
GILT: Property Of… Sale
The Picks: Rafe Boston Work Bag – $139 ($269), Wally Briefcase – $179 ($329)
While usually “imported”, “Property of…” goods are usually solid quality wrapped in some eye catching designs. Mike from Cool Material just included a Property Of… bag in his 5 favorites. When they dip into the mid $100s like this, then they’re worth a good strong look. A warning: these are through Gilt, so you have to be a “member” and the return policy is super strict. Read: for store credit only. Also on Gilt and worth considering, this Turnpike Brief from Jack Spade for $195. Yahtzee.
Ralph Lauren: 25% off Select Styles w/ RLGIVE2013
The Picks: Polo Chelsea Boot – $148.50 ($198), Suede Jodhpur Boot – $148.50 ($198)
Been awhile Ralph. Their website since late summer has been nothing but tumbleweeds. A few new fall arrivals have shown up, and these boots are now firmly on the radar. “Imported”, but they sure look good on screen, and the view from the sole shows stitching. Code is good through Wed. 10/3.
J. Crew Factory: 40% off “fall essentials” + tiered SEPTSAVE
The Combo Picks:
- Herringbone Wool Blend Sportcoat + Lambswool crew = $147.50
- Long Sleeve Sailing Stripe Tee + Slim Straight Cord + Vintage Navy Tartan Shirt + Brushed Twill Shirt = $108.80
This gets a little complicated. Two separate sales here, that can be combined for pretty good results. This batch of select items (“Fall Essentials”) have been marked down by 40%. Sadly, no blazers in there. But, the tiered code SEPTSAVE gets you 30% off $200, 20% off $125, and 10% off $75. So, a blazer and a 40% off lambswool crew trips that extra 30% off. Not bad. Pick all Fall Essentials and you bump your % up nice and high.
Target: New Fall Arrivals + Estes Chukkas – $30.00 ($39.99)
The Picks: Estate Chukkas in Suede or Leather(?) or Navy – $30.00 ($39.99)
Big thanks to Scott H., and Ryan N. (who sent in the above photo) for the tips on these Merona desert boots. Now’s not a bad time to jump into Target and take a look at their new fall arrivals. Word is the suede on these desert boots is actually pretty nice. Not a bad way to jump into the blue suede shoes boots game either.
BONUS: Maxton Men 25% off Travel Goods w/ TRAVEL25
The Pick: Old Calgary Passport Wallet – $37.50 ($50)
German wool felt + Italian leather come together in the USA. Pretty damn handsome for those of you international travelers. Ships free too.
Also worth a mention: Banana Republic is offering 35% off $150+ and 40% off $200+ w/ BRMORE. There’s a couple black thin briefcases going for $345 – $355 (25% off) in the Dave’s Deals section of Saddleback’s website. GAP launched the latest collaboration with GQ collection earlier this week. Nordstrom just marked down the classic Red Wing moc-toe boot in russet, now going for $150 instead of $250.
Target also has a more rugged boot available, the Rainer: MSRP $39, on sale now for $30. Seen it in store, it’s an interesting option.
I just picked up some LEC cords and they’re great. The colors are rich (especially the “toasted rye”) and the material is super soft.
I haven’t gotten any in several years but I do have a pair in a rich warm brown and the same red as the moleskin pants in the article, they’re really great. Wish I had one size up but LEC being LEC, I’m not really eager to deal with the hassle of figuring out how their offerings fit nowadays.
Not sure if Joe posted a referral link for Gilt but here’s mine. You save $25 off your 1st purchase and I get referral credit as well.

I actually might have to pick that Rafe work bag for myself.
I’ve bought several pairs of shoes from Target and after a dozen wears they were sent to Goodwill. All three were uncomfortable and cheap looking. My recommendation is to spend more and get something that will last a few seasons. Have a pair of Rocket Dog suede desert boots that have been going strong for 5 years now that I picked up for $60.
For those of us still holding onto the J. Crew voucher from Gilt this could be an opportunity to stack as well.
I bought a pair of the Lands’ End Donegal Trousers at the end of last season. While I typically like a higher waisted dress pant (wear’em up near my hip bones), I felt these were quite high, and ultimately returned them. The fabric was pretty rough (such is a Donegal tweed, in most cases); lined down to the knee, though, so not a big deal on the inside. For anyone giving them a go, I’d suggest going unfinished – check them out, see how you like the fit and the weight of the fabric – and then letting your tailor hem them up for you (I honestly think I’d go cuffed). Cheers.
I’m a fan too. I also got a pair of urban slim cords from JCF recently and like the fit. Prices are great too for a pair of pants you can only wear a few months a year.
Stopped in J.Crew Factory last night to return something. I believe that the JCF chambray shirts are also 40% off in the brick-and-mortar store. Although some of the other items listed online in the Fall Essentials sale were not discounted 40% in store (I think)…
I’m digging that bomber jacket…
…as for the suede chuckas, I suppose it’s nice to have a fall weight boot of the sort, but I always wonder if the back of my head why anyone would buy a pair other than the classic Clarks.
Strange that the J Crew lambswool fair isle sweater isn’t included.. 🙁
J Crew is a doing their occasional 30% off final sale items, but they’ve also added a 50% off end of season styles section to the sales tab. A lot of it is swimwear, and all of it is very overtly summer stuff, but this Ludlow suit drops down by a comfortable margin and is still available in most sizes. Buy now, wear in May? Or in warmer climates? Or … Australia?

Beat me to it. 2 hours ago (8:30 central), there were lots of complete Ludlow suits and sportcoats. Snagged the Unconstructed Ludlow in Irish Linen from Joe’s earlier post for $80 and a suit in Italian Oxford cloth for $180. Unfortunately the linen suit wasn’t available in my size.
Just got a post up about this. I’ve never seen the extra 50% off before. Wild.
Sweet, my first shout out on Dappered! (thanks Joe) Picked up my Leather(!) Chukkas for $30 and am wearing them for the second time already this week. They’re comfortable, they fit nice, they have a sweet leather upper, and heck, they’re $30. It’s my first pair of Chukkas (and first pair of Target shoes) and I can already tell I’m going to love them. We’ll see how they last.
According to the target website, those are composed of “man made materials.” Probably not the best option, even at $30. Could be worth a shot, though.
I thought that expired on Sept 17?
dang. you are right. I misread the voucher.
Those straight fit donegal pants are great, but anyone have suggestions on what kind of sport coat to wear them with?
Clarks are nearly 100 bucks without a sale these days aren’t they?
That might get hard to stomach for a lightly built boot with such a soft wear-prone sole.
Oh yes, excellent point, but I find that with a bit of care to them and a strickly casual wearing routine my Clarks are going on their 3rd year. Yes there’s some wear on the sole but certainly nothing that’s going to to cause me to throw them away. They’re as comfy and as bizarrely silent as ever.
I say they’re worth the $100 -$120 we pay up here in Canada. I just see these other desert boots and I’m sure none of them are going to last as long, especially not this one.
Those PRL Chelseas are sweeeeet.
Picked up the suede this weekend. Wearing them for the first time today. Not bad for 30 and they do look sharp! Love Dappered….they make me dapperer!
