Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
J. Crew: 25% off $150+ w/ FALLSTYLE
The Picks: Ludlow Sportcoat in English Wool – $246 ($328), Dock Peacoat – $213.75 ($285), Macalister Brickman Suede in Grey – $118.50 ($158)
This isn’t limited to the sale section, and there are plenty of new fall arrivals that are going to be real hard to resist. The usual exclusions do apply though. So, no suiting or 3rd party merchandise… but blazers and outerwear are most certainly up for grabs. That Ludlow in English wool might be the splurge of the season. Still pricey in the mid $200s, but much, much less expensive than their new cotton herringbone option (which is head-scratchingly pricey). Ticket pocket is a nice detail as well. And their new, longer peacoat is all kinds of right. Also, look what’s back! And here’s to hoping it sticks around. It’s a good one. Code expires Monday 8/26.
woot!: $15.00 Timex Weekenders
The Picks: Weekender Slip-thru with red/grey – $15.00
It’s not the largest selection to pick from, but $20 for a weekender is awfully fair (shipping is five bucks). You do have to create a woot! account or sign in with your Amazon username and password to take advantage of the deal. Many thanks to Ryan N. and Joshua M. for the style tips on this one. Update: Red + Grey are sold out, but there’s a purple strap version still up for grabs.
Allen Edmonds: New Styles Added to Clearance
The Picks: Chukkamok in Tan leather or Tan Suede – $157.00
($260), McTavish Brown Distressed – $197.00
($295)
Wow, that’s a lot of earth tone wingtipping in just one 400 pixel wide box. Anyway, the Chukkamok are admittedly bizarre. But they might strike a good balance with jeans and a chino or tweed sportcoat. Same Allen Edmonds quality, just now at a mid $100s price. Unstructured, long wing, made in the USA. The McTavish is another stepped-up casual but a little more familiar. Now under $200 in this lighter, distressed brown.
Lands’ End: Extra 20% off sale w/ EXCLUSIVE & 1417
The Picks: L.E.C. Moleskin Straight Fit 5-pockets – $31.99 ($70), Tailored Fit Flat Front Donnegal Trouser – $47.99
($99), L.E.C. Contrast Collar OCBD – $23.99
($44), L.E.C. Mourning Stripe Vest – $55.99
($100)
The pin EXCLUSIVE and code 1417 isn’t being advertised on their site, but it runs through tomorrow (Friday 8/23) and takes an extra 20% off sale and clearance. Also, free shipping kicks in at $50 with that code and pin. The Moleskin Straight fits were a favorite from last season that might have to be jumped on. Like a cold weather version of those red pants some favor.
J. Crew Factory: 30% off everything w/ SALE30
The Picks: J. Crew Thompson Jacket in Chino – $96.60 ($148), Slim Merino Wool V-neck – $38.15 ($64.50)
Man. The new dark Glenn-Plaid Thompson suit is much more expensive than the all-wool solids that have been out for a while. With the code, the Glenn plaid is $272. The solids are $221.20. Not the most mind blowing sale, but prices with the code dip to just about where most of us would pull the trigger.
Also worth a mention: For you big spenders who wear suits a lot and need something high quality, Billy Reid has a few “Heirloom” collection suits for half off ($648 – $698). Cole Haan’s summer sale continues to roll on. Jack Spade is offering 20% off regular priced items as long as you take a survey (scroll down on their homepage, it’s below the fold). Levi’s is offering 30% off most items with the code DENIMEVENT … which brings this pair of Portuguese made wingtip boots down to $117.60. Free shipping too. Big fat hat tip to TDurden for finding these and posting about them on threads. Banana Republic is offering 30% off full priced styles with BRSHARP, but the usual exclusions (blazers, suit jackets) apply. BR is also running a F&F sale (40% off online, 50% off in store, limited to no exclusions) but you need a code from an employee. (Psst… try: LD1JDQNXYDKX online. Usually these things dry up pretty fast though.)
Yikes. Weekender is already sold out on Woot. That peacoat is awfully tempting tho–wishlisting right away. Thanks Joe!
Definitely look at the purple-band weekender. For 15, it’s a great looking face (just swap the band…unless purple’s your thing–which is cool.)
Where is that one located?
So has J.Crew factory stopped the selling of 34 jackets? I remember being so excited when I saw them and then they disappeared…=(
All the other timexes are here: http://www.woot.com/plus/timex-weekenders
The purple band is a good face, as is the top-left one “weekender, silver.” Again, I’d swap the band, but I’m a bit partial.
The hell is with Wallace & Barnes pricing?
I have the Weekender with the cream-colored face — bought it a few months ago. It’s much “brighter/cheerful” in feeling than the grey one with the red/grey strap. 😛
I’m with you on the JCF pricing, especially because it’s a wool/poly blend.
Also, those Italian-made Thomas Dean oxfords on NM Last Call have dipped down now to $119.
I just pulled the trigger on those Donegal pants. From the reviews it sounds like I will have add buttons for suspenders.
I got the Olive weekender through a Groupon months ago, about the same price. Don’t let the “olive” fool you–it has enough brown undertones to go with your earth colored wardrobe. Aside from the ticking–I keep mine in a drawer–it’s a great deal.
Great. I grabbed one with a purple band. I love the white face. Is this the same watch FFF uses with their custom leather bands?
different model; same design/size/dimensions. That’s probably a discontinued one that woot is selling; timex swaps things around and dumps some colors occasionally, then blows out stock. This one, for example, looks *similar* in color of face to our ‘midday’ faces (off-white), but the second hand is black, where most of the ones we use are a deep red (used to be able to get one with a silver second hand, which was a personal favorite, but it’s been discontinued). All in all, I like it.
Yup. I already have the weekender that’s sold out and I like it a lot. I just picked up the “silver” one from Woot and I’ll just swap out the band. Pretty happy about the whole thing, actually.
I have those LEC Moleskins in that color. They are supremely comfortable.
Be warned though–as is usual for LEC, the photos leave something to be desired. I found the color was a good bit warmer and brighter than the website led me to believe
anywhere you can find a 20mm nato band. lots of places have them; if you want colors & nylon, I’d probably suggest the knottery: http://theknottery.com/more/watch-bands/striped-nato-watch-straps.html
for super-heavy-duty, look at countycomm.
Heads up – worth noting that if your a 42, 44, or 46 R, the Billy Reid Rustin (the one that topped the navy blazer hierarchy) is $325 (+free shipping)
i’m a 40…
“@#)$&!”
Timex is sold out!
The Levi Brogue Lace-Up Boots are enticing! Nice find. Hope they (and a sale) stick around through the fall. Would like to pick up a pair.
That blazer..that texture…fall is coming. So tempting.
target stores sell the same watches for $35. a little more than the sale price but less then what they are showing as the preclearance price.
It’s already on backorder, so patience will be necessary if you pull the trigger.
The wallet gods have spoken. I do “need” a casual/business casual navy blazer though.
I’ve had my eye on the JCF glen plaid suit for a bit, too. Hoping there’s a bigger sale next weekend for Labor Day.
Saw the glenn-plaid Thompson in person and was not impressed which sucks, because I liked the idea of it.
woot puts weekenders on at this price about once every other month if you have patience. . .
I wish I could keep buying more Ludlow, but there’s so much padding in the shoulders. I have the Ludlow navy blazer, and there’s a big roll on the upper part where the sleeve meets the shoulder. Perfect blazer otherwise.
The bands are on clearance pretty regularly at the Targets in my area as well – that’s where I’ve gotten all mine. Not as nice as the NATOs already recommended, but cheap.
*Sad Trombone*
Great, I plan on picking up one of your bands!
I love the pattern online (I have the original, 80 wool, 20 poly charcoal Thompson and like it just fine) and it’s a hard one to find elsewhere – what didn’t you like about it?
What’s with J. Crew and the center vents on their suiting and blazers? Slightly retro and not very flattering. I wish they’d commit to double vents all the way.
I’m digging the glen plaid ludlow. Just debating how versitlie it would be.
If my history is correct, side vents are older and are a mainstay of European and British tailoring. I personally think that side vents make it look like you have a butt flap, but vents are all preferential anyway, and I’m not sure most people will be paying too much attention to how your suiting is vented.
edmonds is having a seconds sale. this includes ralph lauren seconds at 129. The leather and finishing is generally thought to be of a higher quality than regular AE models similar to the Independence collection. The only problem is they are built on a custom last that is very narrow. So you may have to size up. i personally like the sanderson longwings very much.
Is 25% code as good as it gets for J-Crew, or do they run better codes sometimes?
how do I get in on this? didn’t see anything on their website
I got a pair of the dark brown RL Singleton loafers in a 10 D. They are gorgeous shoes–a steal at $129–with only an incredibly minor crease in the leather in the inside of one of the arches. Other than that, no noticeable imperfections–in fact, I’ve seen AE firsts in worse shape. Thanks for the heads up!
They ran a 30% site-wide code several months ago for quite awhile…I’m holding off on the English wool Ludlow Joe mentioned until one turns up (hopefully!).
Sorry ive taken so long to reply. You have to call or email one of their retail outlets and ask for a list of their available shoes in your size. Then just call them with what you want and order them. Here is the contact for one of them:
