I love that the worst possible option is represented by Guy Fieri. Please tell me you’ve seen this menu: http://guysamericankitchenandbar.com/ One of the funniest all time Internet-things.

I find this question real similar to:

I used to hang them off the front of my collar or breast pocket until a lady friend of mine gave me a super enthusiastic hug and crushed them to death. Poor littles guys… I burried them in the backyard later that evening.
Maybe it’s the fact that my sunglasses are prescription and I’m very protective of them, but when I’m not wearing them they go back into the case that I just took my regular glasses out of.
John3says
Not sure I see a problem with the back of the collar. I put mine there pretty often. Gets them out of the way to a place that is relatively safe and nobody that I am talking to has to look at them. Makes sense to me. I also hang them off of a jean pocket sometimes, but I have dropped them doing that.
drbhrbsays
Prescription sunglasses are great but they become annoying when you go indoors. I usually put them in my chest pocket but that means I’m walking around outside with my normal glasses in my pocket. Even worse is when I forget my regular glasses in the car and then my options are looking like stevie wonder or not being able to see.
Chadsays
agree, especially when eating or doing something at like a desk.

The best is when you have a shirt with button flap over a chest pocket, and you can slip the earpieces through the buttonhole.

“I wear my sunglasses at night”…
hornsup84says
I was curious what Joe meant by back of the collar — do you actually hang them off your back collar?
I wear mine typically in my chest pocket if I have one on my shirt (or inside jacket pocket if I’m in a suit/sportcoat), but if I have neither… I wear mine for short-term storage on the back of my neck with the earpieces sticking forward ‘hugging’ my neck to keep them from falling.
Hugh Harrissays
mine always hang off my neck with croakies, been doing that for years now and it works for me.
DLPsays
Why no love for Croakies? With a suit, definitely not. But if it’s casual they are a really good summertime solution to the problem.
John3says
Nope, I slide one of the earpieces down my neck into the collar and let them hang there. My style of sunglasses would not hug my neck enough to wear them as you do with the earpieces facing forward. However, considering that through the gauged ear get’s a higher rank, I would assume Joe would place your temporary storage solution up there with mine and Guy Fieri’s.

Funny chart, but very true. I just started wearing sunglasses and always feel so awkward when I go inside because I never know where to put them. Even having off your placket or the pic Joe has above makes me feel like a douche but I can’t think of any other options.
jdwsays
Now, the real question is where to keep your prescription sunglasses when you put your prescription normal glasses back on.
jdwsays
And then where do you keep the case? I’m also a glasses-wearer, and I’ve never had prescription sunglasses to worry about.
Chris Mooresays
I do the same, unless you are sitting in a high back chair its a very safe and out of the way place.

“Ranch hose optional, but recommended”. Fantastic, and only slightly more ridiculous than the real menu.

In order (usually), depending on presence of required wardrobe item/functionality:
(1) Inner blazer/SC chest pocket – lenses facing out with one temple arm outside of pocket)
(2) shirt chest pocket – lenses faces in (usually one temple arm outside of pocket – slightly more douchey, I guess, but it often helps hold them in-place)
(3) shirt placket – lenses facing out – somewhat sucky solution as they often fall out when bending forward, picking up something, etc. – the general visual isn’t great, but IMO it isn’t horrible either
(4) very, VERY seldom on top of head – only as a really quick, temporary holding spot (very little… OK, basically *no* hair up-top here, and the little remnant indentations from the nose pads is not a good look at all – surpassing the actual somewhat bad look of wearing the glasses there to begin with)
In all cases, if seated at a table, I try to just fold them closed, and lay them there. I often put my keys there too. Makes it tough to leave your sunglasses behind, if you realize you left your keys there too and can’t unlock or start your car.
hornsup84says
Interesting — not sure I’ve seen someone do that before. I like my version because I’m rarely not in a collared shirt, so the collar helps keep them in place.

Aww is the back of the head really that bad? I thought it was convenient…. but Guy Fieri has convinced me otherwise.

I’m surprised “through the belt loop” is considered less tasteful than “on top of your head”. The latter is not as ostentatious (aka “tool-ish”) since it’s not one of the first things you see when talking to someone, and is my preferred mode of carry right behind “carry it in your hand like a man”.
Jay Carlsonsays
Your glasses won’t slip out of the shirt placket if you tuck the lower arm into the placket as well.

Thanks for such an awesome tip, Jay. Holy Hell! How have I gone this long without ever hearing that. I just tried it sitting here at my desk at work – tucked both sunglass arms into placket, bent forward to pick up make-believe dropped pen, and BLAM-O! – the shades are still there. Cool!
Again, thanks!

If you’re wearing cargo shorts, they should be on your face so no one sees who’s wearing cargo shorts.
