The Monday Sales Tripod – 7/15/13

The Friday Handfuls are great, but what if Monday rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? That can happen quite a bit during seasonal clearances. You’ll find three of the best, with three picks from each, to start the week below. Expect these with zero regularity. Note: The Sales Tripod’s mascot is Captain Cookster, the three legged tabby seen above. Proving that yet again, in the most unlikely ways, cats continue to dominate the internet.

 

Leg #1. J. Crew Extra 30% off Sale Items w/ EXTRA30

Again? Another Extra 30% off sale? This just a few days after they ran an extra 40% off sale items code. But there’s a couple of new additions to the sale section that are worth a look. Code expires Friday, 7/19. Finger’s crossed that the Irish Linen suit jacket gets dumped in the sale section by then… ’cause it ain’t there now.

J. Crew Ludlow Suit Jacket + Pant in Pinstripe Italian Wool – $419.98 ($650)

Just made its way into the sale section. And at that price, well, we’re in Suitsupply territory now. Plenty of sizes, a dark well-spaced pinstripe, and the lower button stance / slimmer lapels / slim sleeves / nonfunctioning buttons you’d expect from a Ludow. Still too expensive?

 

J. Crew Slim Fit Henley in Colorblock – $32.19 ($65.00)

Anyone else ready for fall? The slim fit is key, and the full length sleeves (instead of baseball 3/4 style) are kindly appreciated. Still a little pricey for a henley, but that fit is going to make it much more comfortable to layer.

And just like that, most of the United States now feels like the surface of Venus. Surviving the summer without punting on style requires some lightweight, breathable pants with a little color. Wear with a polo and some drivers or tassel loafers and you’re set. Careful with the “slim” option here. Those can get real slim, real quick, and the “classic” is already pretty slim.

 

Leg #2. Club Monaco Extra 40% off Sale w/ SUMMER40

40% is extra nice. Usually Club Monaco sticks to 30% off. And everything ships free as well, which is a major advantage over the ouch-worthy $8.95 shipping ding J. Crew applies. Know that you are on the hook for online returns to the tune of five bucks. Code expires Thursday 7/18.

Club Monaco Reversible Vest – $53.40 ($149.50)

One side is a standard, navy, diamond quilt-stitch pattern, the other… POW! FULL MARCEAU. Lil’ loud but, well, who knows. Not a bad price for a good looking slim-fit vest. Sizes are moving fast.

 

Club Monaco Lightweight Davis Chino – $29.40 ($69.50)

Saturated colors, a slim fit, and a lighter than average chino fabric. Under thirty bucks. Sure.

 

Club Monaco Waxed Cotton Belt – $11.40 ($34.50)

Here’s how you pull off a mint-green colored belt: Keep the rest of your outfit neutrual. Off white pants, black or charcoal polo, grey loafers… and then the belt. Wear it with jeans and a black sweater in the fall.

 

Leg #3. Frank & Oak Summer Sale

Some guys have had a great experience with the “membership” site Frank & Oak, some have given it a shot and have since jumped ship. You do have to surrender an email address to see their goods, but you don’t have to purchase a monthly subscription to their “hunt club” to shop. Thoughts from you guys on F&O overall? Worth taking a shot at one of their blazers?

F&O Linen Blazer in Stone – $85.00 ($125)

Also available in a blue and tan. Button stance looks decent and the tail doesn’t look too chopped. Also worth a look, the “Evans” line of linen blazers, that swaps out patch pockets for welt. $85.00 as well.

 

F&O Cotton Gingham Blazer – $85.00 ($125)

Half lined, cotton… but looks like it might be a little short in the tail.

 

F&O Cotton Varsity Jacket – $35.00 ($65)

Injects some campus style without going full letter-jacket. Fleece lining, 100% cotton, and that traditional ribbed + striped collar, cuff, and hem ribbing. Gunmetal snaps too. Also available in a red shade.

Also on the radar to start the week: Banana Republic is 35% off through 7/16 w/ BRJULY35, which drops their awfully nice linen/cotton button downs to $23 – $32 (usual exclusions like blazers and suit jackets apply). Bonobos is still rolling along with an extra 25% off sale with EXTRA25. Lands’ End / L.E.C.  is taking $20 off $75 w/ EAGLE and pin 1215. Meanwhile, anyone else notice that “landsendcanvas.com” now redirects to a sub page on the main Lands’ End Website? Charles Tyrwhitt has reduced their sale selection even further, with shirts starting at $35. The The Laco Type A Pilot Automatic has dropped an extra $30 and is down to $330 as sold direct by Amazon. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale launches this Friday. So, get ready for that one.
