Peal & Co. x Brooks Brothers Suede Chukka – $179.00 ($295)
Looks like this Gilt sale ends Thursday at Noon ET. Yep, Gilt. So no returns for cash. Just credits.
Gilt launched a tandem of Brooks Brothers sales yesterday (one clothing, one shoes & accessories) that was probably one of the better sale offerings in awhile. Markdowns included hundreds off their awesome football leather briefcase, another couple of uber-polished briefcases, suede drivers under $90, and slim fit OCBDs for $40.
But you guys know how Gilt sales can go. You sneeze, and stuff is sold out. Like all of those items listed above. Gone.
Yet these are still hanging around in most sizes…
The Peal & Co. Suede Chukka in Brown, Sand, Black, and Navy
Hm. Still expensive for a casual shoe. Brooks Brothers owns the Peal & Co. name, and these are made in the U.K.. The majority of the Peal & Co x Brooks Brothers collection is manufactured by the heritage shoemaker Crockett and Jones, but no specific word on who makes these. They’re no longer available on the Brooks Brothers website, but other prices seemed to match up with the other goods in the Gilt sale (so, chances are their retail was $295?). And you’d have to think that a $300, made in the U.K. boot is going to be solid quality and resoleable.
But Gilt is selling these. And since they’re under $200, you can only return them for Gilt credits. Not cash.

I no longer shop at Gilt because of the returns-for-credits-only stipulation…
Aw man. If I had the budget, I would jump on the navy ones immediately. Peal & Co has fantastic shoes.
Yeah. Totally understandable. They made that switch awhile back, but quietly enough that I, personally missed it until someone pointed it out in the comments.
That’s a pretty rough returns policy. It’s almost like everything is quasi-final sale.
I think they look great in the photos. Not sure I would wear them enough to justify spending the 180. If they were in the low 100s then OK… but then you have gilts credit only.
Seconded what mcjorge said, there are too many other options now. It’s frustrating but unless on the rare chance it was something in particular that I positively knew would fit, no dice.
Well from what I know if the shoes come in the original box from Brooks you can always exchange sizes at the store. Maybe its just something my store does because they like me? But I’m not for or against Gilt’s policy just a thought tho on the shoes. If someone buys the 10’s and doesn’t want them I’ll give ya cash for em 🙂
I bought these yesterday in a burst of sale-induced panic. Fred @ the forum seems to think they’re made by Loake, similar to their Gobi Desert Boot ($167 USD) with a different sole.

Depends on comfort. I have not worn any Clarks DBs in suede, but the beeswax pair is comfortable, but not SUPER comfortable. I also own a pair of AE Amoks (discontinued due to a large number of shoes squeaking in this model) and they are soft as butter (unlined super-soft suede). If these are a happy medium between CBDs and Amoks, I’d be glad to drop 150 on them.
Long time lurker. Been trying to convince myself to wear dark brown suede loafers with jeans but just not a loafer guy. Have a number of desert boot/chukkas from Frye and Clark (even from Ugg). Jumped on these for the price and look. First purchase from Gilt…
solid but clarks are cheaper
Valetmag.com has a spread today on made in Columbian-made suede chukkas by Beckett Simonon that look pretty great and run $90. Have not seen them in person but they look every bit the equal of these and more from the description.

Just not a fan of this style shoe.
It costs $89 now
Mate that is a nice pair. What’s the size like? I wear a 9.5 with Nike.
Thanks
I’m a 12 in Nike and the 12 in these fits me well.
Whelp, nevermind. I’ll take anything endorsed by Valet with a grain of salt from here on out. I have to say that in certain cases I’ve suspected that their blurbs on products make me suspicious that they’re passing advertisements off as independent product endorsements. This kind of confirms that impression.
Thanks for the reply Derek. I just got myself a pair of Clarks for $65 on Amazon. I will think about pulling the trigger later on. Any suggestions on loafers sir?
