Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.
J. Crew Factory: 30% off new arrivals. Free shipping w/ SPRINGTOIT

The Pick: Oxford Cloth Thompson Suit Jacket & Matching Pant – $186 ($266)
At the rate and variety of fabrics they’re making these things in, expect a J. Crew Factory Burlap suit in October. Now in Oxford Cotton and 30% off. Ships free with SPRINGTOIT. Color is labeled as “Navy”… ? … (looks like it’s a white & very dark almost black navy woven together and thus, it looks grey). Full review of the pique and Corded cotton versions right over here. The 30% off is only good on new arrivals and those prices are already shown on their site.
Brooks Brothers: Preferred Customer Event, 15% off + Free Shipping through 4/1

The Picks: Ribbon Belt – $20.50 ($48), Suede Drivers – $125.80 ($148), Plaid Wool Bomber – $169.32 ($498)
Free shipping no minimum and an extra 15% off? Look out small stuff and sale section. Not a bad time to poke around and find a one-off shirt or belt that’s on sale. Shipping is usually a killer on Brooks Brothers. But during this event, you’re good. They got it. Discount jumps to 25% if you’re a Brooks Brothers credit card holder. There are a few exclusions, but they’re pretty few and far between (cordovan, made to measure, black fleece). Meanwhile, if you’re a member with Rue La La, they’ve got a Brooks Brothers sale going on over there too.
Banana Republic: Extra 30% off Sale Items w/ BRSALE30

The Picks: Soft Wash Slim Fit Gingham shirt – $31.49 ($64.50), 90% Cotton / 10% Cashmere V-Neck – $27.99 ($59.50), Wool blend crew – $13.99
($59.50)
Double dippin’ in the sale section. Size selection can vary, but the picks above have at least a few regular sizes left. The soft wash gingham shirts for example have lots of sizes left for their five shades. Great fit too. Slim, but not tight.
*Update: Looks like the wool blend crew are now out of stock.
**Update II: They’ve changed this to 30% off and more than just sale. Usual exclusions of suit jackets + blazers, Monogram, Heritage, the new “BR Picks” thing, and others apply, but BR48HOUR is a standard 30% off code. Sale selection seems better than normal though.
Maxton Men: 20% off office & tech w/ OFFICE20

The Pick: Field Notes Mixed Paper 3-Pack – $8.00
Not a bad time to stock up on Field Notes since free shipping kicks in at $25. Code expires today.
Saddleback: Dave’s Deals is well stocked

The Picks: Thin Briefcase in black – $369.90 ($461)
“Dave’s Deals” is a section on Saddleback’s website devoted to not quite perfect goods that are offered at a discount. Price drops range from 10% (you’d only notice the imperfection if you were holding the item) to 25% (you could catch a glimpse of the goof up from 10 feet away). There’s 22 items in there at post time, ranging from tiny stuff to enormous suitcases. And finding one of the thin briefcases in that section seems to be a bit of a rarity. The one on sale is in black and listed at 10% off. While most guys would probably prefer one of the shades of brown, it’s still marked down to now under $400. Which is strange, because $461 at 10% off = $414.90. Hm. Numbers don’t quite add up for their classic briefcase that’s on sale either.
UPDATE: This just showed up in the Dave’s Deals section over night… Thin Briefcase in the lightest shade, Tobacco brown. 10% discount has it listed now at $380.70
UPDATE II: Looks like they just added a medium brown chestnut version at a 15% discount here.
Also worth a mention: Express is doing $25 off every $75 you spend with the code 1192. J. Crew is still doing 25% off orders of $150+ with LOVEJCREW, and this just showed up in the sale section with tons of sizes. Pretty sure you caught the fact that Target’s Men’s Wardrobe Sale has (pre) launched. Lastcall is doing 30% off everything, but prices and stock seem… so so. Allen Edmonds just put a couple more shoes in their clearance section, including the different, grain-leather Hamptons. L.L. Bean and L.L. Bean Signature are doing 10% off through Monday w/ SPRING10.
Sorry guys, but I snagged the briefcase. Been wanting one for ages!
Like Joe said, would’ve preferred coffee brown but damn is their stuff nice!
You had me at gingham. You had me at gingham…
BR has a few tailored slim fit shirts marked down to $39.99, end up being $28 with the discount. Grab two for $56 and free shipping!
Just a heads up on the Brooks Brothers sale. If you are a “corporate member,” the regular 15% off you receive with a corporate card still applies on top of the extra15% (or 25% off w/ cc) sale. Or at least it did when I ordered two pairs of dress slacks on line yesterday. Added up to a total of 40% off the buy two pairs for $225 price on the wool gabardine trousers.
Bought three of those things last night.
Heads up, the BR code is BR48HOUR
Finally got my hands on those BB ribbon belts, been needing something with a bit of color. Got free 2 day shipping with my ShopRunner account too.
Just a heads up, but I just bought the J Crew suit for 139.85 after tax when they had the 30% off with STYLESCORE (on monday). Also, I contacted customer service about the color:
“Thank you for reaching out to us about our Factory Thompson Two-button Suit Jacket with Double-vented Back in Oxford Cloth (item# 34398). This actually one of my favorite pieces because the color is an optical illusion. It looks gray but it is actually navy thread woven together with white thread and that’s what gives the fabric that gray color.”
Corrected. Thanks Brady.
Just grabbed one myself and a cashmere vneck. Grabbed a cardigan from ON for the wife lest she protest. 🙂
In-store last night, I found the slim-fit stretch dress shirt on the clearance racks marked down to $22. 30% off on top of that made for a steal of a deal, IMO @ $15. They had *several* of them (all navy, though). FYI, if you have a BR nearby.

Love the subtle AC/DC reference on the Saddleback post. Nice one, Joe! And keep up the great deals!
One gripe with BB related to ShopRunner, though. Why have a two day shipping option if the order is going to take up to three days to get out of the warehouse? Placed an order for two pairs of dress slacks early on Thursday afternoon, and when I called to confirm a billing issue, the agent told me they wouldn’t ship till Monday at the earliest. What’s the point of expedited shipping when it takes that long to get things cleared out of your facility??
Do you know how the fit compares to J. Crew slim?
Seems like they started excluding their blazers and suit jackets in the late fall. There are still some sales where they’re not excluded, but it’s now extremely likely that they will be excluded.
As far as how long this has been going on? This seems like a new thing to me. With costs going up everywhere, I guess it might not be a total surprise that a more complicated piece, like a blazer, would have tighter margins and thus gets excluded a lot. Just pulling that theory out of thin air though.
I’m thinking about the Thompson suit. I’m a J. Crew factory newbie. Does the factory and J. Crew have the same fit?
Can’t say until I get em in unfortunately.
too bad the BR code doesn’t work for “BR Picks” that include the tailored slim fit shirts.
Check out Onassis this weekend if you live in NYC. Friends & Family weekend – 25% off your purchase. That place is great for sport shirts.
FYI – Discount on socks stacks. 25% off when u buy 3, then 30% off total. Came to about 5.50 or so a pair from 10.50 regular.
Nope.
I agree with Joe here.
If you want to save on their blazers, the best bet is to get a BR Credit Card. They regularly have cardmember-only sales which rarely exclude blazers and suiting.
Also for Brooks Brothers use the coupon code REG1X and you’ll get $10 off but you have to call it wont work on the site due to the 15% off promotion. Just bought the unstructured sport coat and cost me about $95 and it is definitely worth it, great fit, lined sleeves and nice quality material
call them, because when i placed my order at check out it completely removed all discounts, but they were really helpful at customer service and applied all the appropriate discounts and also the $10 off with REG1X
Call them and play dumb, say you dont understand why your discount is not working, a lot of times they can override it, theyll say this is a one time thing but they dont keep track of it, still get my blazers on sale
Were you able to get both the jacket AND the pants for under $140?
Just checked the BR site, seems a new code BRSHOP35, today only for 35% off, online only. Got the soft wash gingham shirts for 29.94 and the cotton-cashmere v-neck for 19.49. Ends at midnite
Yes! I was indeed.
Lucky! Now I’d feel like a sucker if I bought it at the current price. Take photos!
Should get here tomorrow, I’ll try to sometime this weekend as long as I’m not busy
Got the suit and boy is it pretty. Could not get the grin off my face as I realized how awesome of a steal I got. I would say buy it.
Exactly. The card is rated one of the best store cards out there by sites that don’t even know all the benefits. Cardmember discounts usually only exclude third party merchandise. Even Mad Men was discounted with card coupons recently while the Friends and Family discount didn’t work on Mad Men. Cardmembers get the best deals.
