Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.
jcp: $10 off your purchase of $50 or more w/ SPENDIT

The Picks: Claiborne Suede Oxfords – $50.00 ($60)
Perfect. They were already a deal at sixty, and the code knocks them down to $50. Ships free to a local brick and mortar too, if they by chance don’t have your size in store. Full review here. Meanwhile, you could also just cherry pick a bunch of jcp and Stafford stuff like the jersey polos and cotton ties. The deal is also going on in store too, but you’ll need a coupon. Thanks to Kyle and everyone else who sent in the style tip. Promotion expires 3/17.
Amazon: Some sort of Orient Watch Blowout going on?

Thanks to Rick for the initial tip on one of these watches. Ever since Orient Corporate in Japan killed off 50% off codes months ago, 30% off seemed like that was about as good as it was going to get. Now Amazon (or in these cases, Amazon or watches being at least fulfilled by Amazon) has drastically cut prices, some well more than 50% off, on more than a few Orient models. Here we go with some picks:
- M-Force 2011 in Black – $283
or Orange – $320
($550 w/ code via Orient)
This is from their upgraded line. Hackable and hand winding automatic, power reserve indicator, water resistant to 200m, Sapphire crystal… the works. Bit of a beast at 46mm in diameter. - Mako XL in Black – $145.00
or Orange – $150.51
or Lum. White – $157.99
($224 w/ code via Orient)
Expect a full in-person review and giveaway of the black dial version next week. A larger 44.5mm in diameter, but it doesn’t totally swallow up an average sized wrist. More over here in the Best Automatic Watch Deals post. - Blue Mako – $119.99
($199.50 w/ code via Orient)
Full review over here… - Orient Vintage – $221.99
($325.50 w/ code via Orient)
Online pics don’t do it justice. Power reserve, champagne textured dial, exhibition case back. Real impressive. Review here. - Orient Symphony – $126.00
($147 w/ code via Orient)
An entry level, simple, dress auto.
NOTE: All of these were either being sold direct by Amazon, or at least fulfilled by Amazon (they ship and handle returns) at post time. That of course can change. Be real careful who you’re buying from online.
GAP: 30% off w/ GAPFRIENDS

The Picks?: Tailored Cotton Blazer – $68.50 ($98), 1969 Selvage Straight Fit Jeans – $62.97
($89.95)
Two items that haven’t been seen in person yet and have gotten mixed reviews. See the comments section over here for the GAP blazer. A couple readers in the past have mentioned that GAP’s Selvage is a decent entry level pair? (Personally in the 514s-are-just-fine-for-me camp over here.) Also, the Banana Republic Friends & Family event is underway, but the exclusions are numerous.
Club Monaco: 20% off $150, 25% off $200 & 30% off $250 w/ code SAVEMORE

The Picks: Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots – $241.50 ($345), Ernest Alexander Briefcase – $206.50 ($295), Quilted Coaches Jacket – $151.60 ($189.50), The Combo: Two PJ Polos + Wax Belt – $122.80
Bad news is there’s a high threshold for that first discount. The good news is that Club Monaco doesn’t seem to exclude their curated 3rd party merchandise from their sales (apologies in advance if this is the one time when they change that up). So that’ll take $100 off the Wolverine 1000 Mile boots and get them down to a more palatable price (available in brown or black). The Ernest Alexander brief goes from almost $300 to just over $200 with the code. Congrats to them for just being named one of GQ’s best new designers in America. SAVEMORE expires 3/17.
Dappered Donates: Final Push!

Store Wars starts on Monday, so now would be a good time to thank everyone who’s already cleaned out their closets for Career Gear, and to pre-preemptively thank all of you who are thinking about doing so this weekend. Many thanks once again to Career Gear for doing what they do.
Also worth a mention: Giltcity is doing a $75 for $150 in credit at Ledbury deal (thanks to Sean for the tip). Banana Republic has their f&f 30% off BRFRIENDS code going on, but exclusions are once again lengthy (including blazers). Rue La La has launched their once a season “Big. Rue. Sale”. Ralph Lauren is offering free shipping through St. Patrick’s Day with RLLUCK13. J. Crew’s extra 30% off sale items code GOODNEWS expires today, and this blazer is still getting that discount. J. Crew Factory’s extra 30% off site wide code STYLESCORE is good through Tuesday, pushing those cotton suits way down to $176.
The GAP blazer looks nice but the reviews seem to be a mixed bag. As a BB milano/ ESF guy I wonder how this will fit slim guys OTR or if the tailoring would cost more than the item itself.
Actually the only exclusion to the BR friends and family (if you were lucky enough to get a code) is the Mad Men collection.
Orient Vintage is “currently unavailable”.
Is this the standard 50% off 5 items deal?
Jos A Bank has wool top coats on sale for $97, I don’t own any, but they look good online, lots of options, and the price is right.
Another shop selling Orients at very good prices…http://www.longislandwatch.com/Orient_Watches_s/1834.htm
Is it just me, or does everyone get the “click (GIF Image, 1 x 1 pixels)” when clicking all links on the page?? Been happening for the past couple weeks on almost all posts that I can remember.. Seems to be an issue on my end.
Yep. 50% off 5 items including Heritage and others except for the Mad Men collection
On the Club Monaco one, this is tempting: http://www.clubmonaco.com/product/index.jsp?productId=17048876&cp=12243591.12280931.12883013&ab=ln_men_features_suitshop
Whole suit is down to $340 with the code. A bit more than people here are usually looking to drop, and it’s rather outlandish (of course), but it could be great for “I’m wearing a suit for the hell of it” days. I haven’t pulled the trigger because they’re out of 40S.
How can we get a code?
I have a pair of the Gap selvage jeans pictured above. Snagged them during a one-item 50% off sale for card holders. If you can hold out for a sale like that and get them for $45, I would highly recommend. The fit and quality of construction is great on them, and they feel like they will last a really long time. As Joe mentioned, would be a great place to start for anyone interested in trying a pair of raw, selvage denim.
Check out the threads. There was a really generous BR manager that gave out his codes and coordinated some of his employees sharing their extra codes with other thread members. Apparently each employee has ten codes that they can share w friends/family. It may be too late to get one from him, but there may be other threads members who don’t end up using theirs and would be willing to share….
Any tips on the sizing of the 1000 Mile Boots?
The available sizes in brown are dwindling but since the black has a brown stacked heel I think it makes them almost equally versatile.
JCP – Ships free to a local store? That’s called stocking your store. Covering for not stocking your stores by saying you’ll send items to your store is not a service.
Kohls and others send to you home at no cost if they don’t have the item in stock.
Cole Haan is running 25% off everything through the weekend
WHO BOUGHT IT.
Hmmm. I haven’t heard any other reports of that, but lemme forward your comment on to our tech guru to see if he might be able to come up with an answer. What browser and version are you using?

Go down half a size from your usual dress shoes. I wear 10.5 in Allen Edmonds, and my 1000 Mile boots are size 10. Also, they are roomy; I typically need wide shoes, but the medium width of the boots is generous and comfortable.
I went ahead and purchased the J Crew Factory Thompson cotton pique 2 button in blue http://factory.jcrew.com/mens-clothing/jackets_outerwear/sportcoats/PRDOVR~34846/34846.jsp. It was $118 shipped with tax with the 30% off coupon they’re running right now.
I would have pulled the trigger on the Gap one but it sounds like its not true to size.
Yes, definitely check out the threads. Looks like member aaron2 just posted about 20 mins ago that he has 5 codes still available and is willing to hand them out to anyone who gets in touch with him. Hurry!
The problem I have with Gap jeans online is that their sizing is irregular – i.e. one pair of 32 32’s will fit you great, but try them in a different wash (even in the same exact fit) and they could be really baggy or really tight. I have the same problem with Levis. I just recently bought a pair of 505s that were snugger and slimmer fitting than the 514s I tried on in the same size. I tried another pair of 505s in a slightly different wash and they were huge on me. I gave up buying Levis online for this very reason.
Firefox 19.0.2.
Hope its not a global issue, but happens with all of the linksynergy links.
Damn, I’ve been waiting for that suit to go on sale and the moment it does they are out of 38R. Heading over to my local to see if it’s in stock anywhere…
I agree with their sizing being inconsistent. I have a pair of the selvage straight fits from two years ago and they fit great. Bought another pair last year and the inseam is 1 to 2 inches longer. Same size as the previous pair.
I tried them on at their pop-up shop in ny. Usually wear 7.5 (cole haan/ allen edmomds), but 7 fit me perfectly for 1000 miles. Would have picked it up, but CM are already out of size.
Not an idiot, but there is another explanation. Many watch movements that display the day of the week do so in both English and Spanish (Seiko does this a lot, and Orient is a subsidiary of Seiko). Good news is that once you set the watch, rotate the crown to the day of the week, and once you land on your language of choice, it’ll keep showing that language instead of bouncing back and forth. They done did thought of everything 🙂
I checked them out locally, and they were not what I was hoping for. Here’s a few pics, including some close ups. Not sure if it’ll help or not, but if you’re interested, here ya go:
http://threads.dappered.com/showthread.php/9463-JCP-10-off-50-or-more?p=105297&viewfull=1#post105297
Thanks. That helps a lot. I see what you mean about the leather looking cheap. I bought a pair of the mercanti fiorentini brown monks about 2? Years ago and they are great. I want them in black but they never have my size. Looking for an alternative is proving just as difficult.
Dang. Too bad. Was hoping for something like the stafford boot / oxford wingtip as far as leather quality goes. Thanks for the pics yoyorobbo.
That M-Force orange face reminds me of an Breitling SuperOcean, in fact I would imagine most people would mistake it for one.
Those Wolverines are going into the basket (assuming they have my size). That is a great deal on a fantastic shoe. Here I was trying to be frugal after spending ungodly amounts of money on other toys.
I just got the Gap blazer at a local store that was closing for only $40. It is very thin and really has no structure to it at all. Having said that, I love it! I have a hard time finding shirts/jackets that fit well off the shelf but this is jacket is on the money. I love the functioning buttons on the sleeves as I always roll them up with the shirt layered underneath. Its just a great casual spring jacket that is very versatile.
I tried the Gap blazer yesterday and really had to control myself since I bought a BR suit with friends and family… I totally agree with everything you wrote. Excellent spring/summer blazer that has a great OTR fit.
I got an email from BR today (Monday the 18th) w/ a one-day-only 40% off your purchase (in store or online) if you use the code. And I didn’t see ANY exclusions in the fine print.
(replied once, but it never seemed to *take* – sorry if it shows as a repost):
For sure, Joe! Glad to post them, as seeing them in person really made the (pass) decision for me. IMO, the leather on those is far from the (surprisingly) nice quality of the Staffords. I’ve gotten several compliments on mine, especially the Ashtons/wingtip-oxfords, even from a few highend shoe store SAs. LOL
I actually picked up the Gap Selvage on the Wednesday prior to this. I am usually a 514 or 501 STF guy, but tried these on for the hell of it and was totally impressed. I am actually considering buying a second pair they fit so well. My measurements are very close to Joe’s and i went for 32×30. But, as someone else stated, sizes in Gap jeans can be weird. I tried on last year’s selvage straight fit (from the clearance rack) in 32 and 33 and both were completely weird on me, big in the waist, small legs/butt.
No prob. I think the pics are pretty telling. I’d love to think that a little conditioner would help, but I doubt it really would. Another of our Dappered brethren commented in the threads that he tried to soften up the brown plain-toe Claibornes (I called them Kenilworth-wannabees – as I desperately *wanted* them to be Keni replacements for me) with some sadle-soap (IIRC), but it didn’t seem to penetrate that stiff leather, and he has been dealing with wrinkles and crinkles from the get-go. Bummer, really, as the whole line of shoes sure *looks* nice, on the JCP page, that is.
Those monks you have are from DSW, right? If I’m thinking of the right ones, Joe really has given them praise here, so adding your personal take on top of that and I’m sure they rock. Might have to try to find some myself. Aren’t they actually discontinued by now? Maybe not.
Thanks, PSR. I love the Orient Vintage, but when I checked the amazon link that Joe supplied in the article here, it was (1) not available – sold out quickly, I guess, and (2) not the exact model/configuration I really wanted anyway. The one on amazon is the silver dial (FFD0F003W), and I really prefer the champagne one (FFD0F004W). So, thanks to your tip here, I was able to get one even cheaper from Island Watch ($199 and free shipping). Nice!
After seeing it was too quickly unavailable on amazon, I took PSR’s tip (reply above here) and checked out Island Watch. They had the champagne one, which is the color config I *really* like the best on the Vintage, for $199 with free shipping. Sweet! Wearing it today!
Beautiful watch, and my thanks again to you Joe, for pointing these things out, and virtually nudging me in a more *Dapperedly* direction. And also thanks to the many readers who offer up additional advice and links, just like PSR did here in this comments section.
Thanks guys!
Hey Nam, as PSR mentioned above in the comments here, check out Island Watch (longislandwatch). I got the Orient Vintage from them for $199 with free shipping.
Hey Deke, as PSR mentioned above in the comments here, check out Island Watch (longislandwatch). I got the Orient Vintage from them for $199 with free shipping.
(repeating this info a couple times here, so that individuals who may not follow-up with all of the comments here might be kept in the loop)
Glad I could help out. I sort of stumbled upon this company’s site one day (I believe that they are a sponsor site on WatchUSeek) and couldn’t believe the prices they had…It was too good not to share.
Yeah, they’re the ones from DSW. I actually took a different pair of shoes into a shop to get resoled and he commented on the DSW monks I was wearing, thinking they were a high end designer shoe (I think he said Ferragamo). I told him what they were and he said he thought they were a lot better quality than the price warranted.
