The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale for men is over. The big splashy graphics are gone, and some of the merchandise that was marked down has gone back up to full retail. But there’s two pieces of good news:
No splashy graphics this time (unless you count that awesome MS Paint job up top…) but it is worth taking another spin through their sale department. Only items that have been further reduced, or weren’t mentioned (or on sale) the first time have made it in here.
.
Just barely under the $200 mark. Made in Italy, and the silhouette looks to be somewhere between the point of a Magnanni and the fuller Allen Edmonds profile.
What in the Skyfall Scotland? Sure looks an awful lot like the Barbour jacket that Bond wore at Skyfall (and being that Billy Reid made 007’s Shanghai peacoat…) No poacher pockets on the back side, but nice looking all the same. Goat suede under the collar. Unlined. A bit of a splurge for a light jacket, but 60% off.
Meanwhile, in more substantial (and more expensive) Billy Reid Outerwear… The Sunday coat is available in brown moleskin over on the Billy Reid Website for… $557. This wool version seems like a steal, albeit a splurge/investment steal. If it’s anything like his other coats, that leather just might be cordovan. Made in Italy. Great looking plaid pattern. Could be a favorite for years to come if you’re willing to invest, and they have your size.
Was $60, now down to half off which equals $45. Remember, it’s a regular cut, so maybe worth sizing down if you’re gonna take this for a spin. Also available in a green/charcoal combo.
Ted Baker stuff has the tendency to look a lot better than it feels. And at almost $75, it’s not unreasonable to ask them to feel pretty darn good. But they do ship and return free. And hey, they look great.
The much, much safer play. Pretty standard design, but after 40 or so reviews these things are just barely under 5/5 stars. Sizes are a bit limited in the lightest option.
A dead ringer for a wool/silk blend tie that Target used to sell. About the same price too. Ships & returns free.
Has a lot of potential. Button stance is going to be a little high for some. Asked about whether the jacket has a half-canvas or is fused, but a chat with customer service was inconclusive. They said they’d find out within a few days. Claims to be a trim fit. Made in the USA.
The v-necks are almost all sold out and these aren’t that far behind. Looks like the black, heather navy, and burgundy have at least a few common sizes left. Claims to be a trim fit.
So you work in a business casual office and want a pair of shoes that’ll stand out without screaming. The tonal upper to saddle mix here is probably the least eye gouging of the Air Colton Saddle color combos. Will probably show up somewhere else eventually for less, but the size selection is good and they ship & return free.
Sizes are now real scattered, but this is about as cheap as it gets for the Alpha Khaki.
Now in that rare area for sunglasses: Somewhere between gas station cheapos and high end triple digit stuff. Ships and returns free. Full review over here.
This knit sportcoat thing is really gaining some steam. Tonal piping, patch pockets, and elbow patches on a marled wool blend fabric. Partially lined which seems par for this trend’s course.
For those that need more dexterity while on the go. Made from merino wool. Like everything else, ships free.
Sizes are getting scarce but aren’t totally gone quite yet. A just-different-enough driver that can serve as your in-house “these don’t have snow or sand on them” shoes until March Madness wraps up.
Lucky is ending up with a pair of the oxford versions in burgundy thanks to last year’s CLAD going out of business sale… when they were just over $100. They are incredibly simple, but insanely comfortable, and those oxfords took a beating while hiking around London. Still pricey for a pair of black shoes.
There doesn’t seem to ever really be a deadline for these after half-yearly sale further reductions. Always good to remember that everything from Nordstrom ships free (and returns free too.)
From wheelhouse standards like chinos and sweaters, to fancy holiday stuff like velvet blazers and…
Weekend update: JCF drops the price on those suede boots to under $80 (final sale…
Fall textures. Smoothly suited. Dark and sleek. Etc.
In person with an iconic loafer... in a not so classic shade.
It's autumnal temptation time. Coats. Boots. Blazers. Sweaters. Shoes.
Brooks Brothers also gets in on the "sale's on sale" act.
