The Friday Handful – 11/30/12

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier.  Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look.  Those are what make up these handfuls.  Expect these things when necessary.  Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below.  Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

Macy’s: Extra 25% off Friends & Family w/code FRIEND (not just watches)

The Picks: Citizen White Dial Chrono – $180, Citizen Aviation Dial – $105

Macy’s on Black Friday?  Total cluster.  But this is more like it.  A 25% off code with some of the usual exclusions, but this one also happens to hit during a big time watch sale.  How big time?  Macy’s clobbers Amazon when it comes to price comparison (the white dial chrono is $225 on Amazon, the aviation dial $131).  That rarely, if ever happens.  Here’s their sale watches ripe for double dipping.  Code should work on most if not all, except those labeled “everyday value”.  Use the code FRIEND for an extra 25% off.  Full reviews of the white dial chrono shown above over here, and the aviation dial over here.

The Pick: L.E.C. Wool Plaid Bomber – $90.00 $150 ($250)

UPDATE:  So here’s the deal.  It was on sale for $150 yesterday.  The extra 40% off would have dropped it to $90.  Wake up this morning and………. it’s back to $150.  Sorry fellas.    I know.  I know.  Lands’ End / LEC seems to be perpetually residing here in the Handfuls.  But, they just launched their winter sale, so this plaid wool bomber just dropped to $150.  The extra 40% off drops it to $90.  And it’s going to be viewed as a real looker to plenty.  Big fan of the ribbed stand up collar (ribbed cuffs and hem + standard bomber collar can sometimes look a little funky).  60% wool, 20% nylon, 20% rayon for the body and it has some insulation too.  Ships free since it’s over $50.

 

Bonobos: Gift Dispenser Slot Machine

Will it be the best deal you’ve seen all week?  That depends on what comes up when you spin the Bonobos/Facebook one armed bandit. Kudos to whoever at Bonobos came up with this idea.  It’s an app, that once you like Bonobos and enter your email (two things that are very valuable to any brand), you get to spin the ol’ virtual slot machine.  Whatever comes up determines what your offer is.  Top prize is 3 Ninjas which = $500 in store credit.  Everyone is a “winner” with the most likely prize being a code for 25% off $150.  Sure that most likely outcome falls into the not-so-great sale category, but applause to Bonobos for the genius promotion.

 

Groupon: Timex Weekender Sale – $20 – $25

The Picks: T2N636 Nubuck Weekender – $25

Many thanks to Ryan N. and others who sent in the style tip about the return of this Groupon/Timex deal.  There’s a couple of slip thru options for $20, then three nubuck strap options for $25.  Full list of the watches for sale can be found here.  Big fan of the lighter tan Nubuck strap option, which first appeared in the One Store One Outfit Target post.  Free shipping & returns too.  As good as a stocking-stuffer priced watch gets.

 

J. Crew:  25% off $150+, 30% off $250+ w/ code WINTER

The Picks: Ludlow Sportcoat in English Herringbone Wool – $229.60 ($328)  Danner Vertigo – $224 ($320), Chippewa Moc Toe – $187.60 ($288), Billykirk Schoolboy Satchel – $262.50 ($375)

First the bad news:  Suiting is excluded.  Of course it is.  So is some of the 3rd party merchandise that they carry (Barbour, Alden, etc…).  Now the good news:  This works on sportcoats and blazers, Red Wings, Danner, and Chippewa.  It also works on Billykirk leather goods, meaning their Schoolboy Satchel (which looks plenty grown up) drops to the mid $200s.  Pretty reasonable considering the quality.

Also worth a mention:  Christopher Ward is doing 15% off almost all of their watches with the code MEGA15.  Looks like it expires Monday?  Jack Spade is doing 20% off all briefcases, not just sale, with the code BRIEFS20 (exp. 12/2).  Yoox is doing an additional 10% off their fall/winter collection with YOOX10.  J.
