So, let’s say there’s this purely hypothetical guy who hypothetically purchased yet another lint roller the other day, and this one is specifically for his car’s glove box.
This fella and his better-half have a couple of cats as well as a dog. Thus, there’s fur everywhere. And more often than not Mr. Hypothetical leaves the house without checking whether or not there’s domesticated animal hair stuck to his sport coat, jeans, shirt, etc.
But a lint roller in the glove box? Is that, y’know, going a bit far?
.

Sorry but I have to vote against it; to me being prepared is ensuring one is pre-dehaired before one leaves. If “Mr. Hypothetical” is reading this, perhaps keeping a lint roller near your keys would serve as a friendly reminder without looking completely OCD.
With as much time as people spend in their cars, I think it makes sense. Gotta be prepared.
I keep one in my glove box, along with some mouthwash, an extra pocket comb, and a little electric rasor in there for days I go out after work. Great for a quick groom in case of a sales call or job interview, or date.
I approve… it’s to good to prepared and is not really a big deal. I keep one in my office drawer and it came in handy last week after a new coat purchase…charcoal grey lint on white shirt disaster was avoided.
How many people look in your glove box? Chances are even if someone thinks its dorky, they won’t know. With a dog around, chances are he rides in the car as well – meaning that even if you leave the house fur free, doesn’t mean you arrive at your destination that way. Dog hair has a tendency to sneak up on you. I say its smart.
I keep one in my desk at work
Hell, I keep one of those in my car and my desk at work. I’ve got two dogs and they are a basic necessity. I’ve never felt like a dandy for doing that either, whats the point of a nice tailored blazer if its covered in dog hair???
I have many. Old habit from active duty days. Lint (and dog hair) can really ruin a look.
I don’t own a car or a dog. However, I have helped people clean their cars (which occurs less frequently than they should) and I have been in the presence of pets so I know that pet fur gets everywhere.
I think the issue is transfer of fur from the car seat to the suit/clothing after he/she/kid gets in/out of the car. And again, since most people don’t clean their cars as much as they should (with pets, kids, etc.), I feel that one can’t be completely sure that there is no fur in the car. That’s assuming that the dog has been in the car, of course. I guess if the dog never steps into the car, the probability of fur is less. But then there is also potential transfer of fur from fur-covered clothing to the car.
Are you are saying that “Mr. Hypothetical” should leave his lint roller near his keys so he can de-lint himself before leaving the house and then bring it to the car to de-lint his car seats and any cloth in the car before leaving?
Just want to make sure I understand what you are saying because I could see how that could work, but it might be a pain every morning. I guess if you make it your morning ritual, that could take some of the thinking out of it… but that would be more OCD than just leaving the lint roller in the glove box, right?
I have a feeling this post stemmed from an argument of sorts…
“You have a lint roller in your glovebox? You kidding me?”
“I bet you most well-dressed dudes wouldn’t see anything wrong with it.”
“And by ‘well-dressed’ dudes you mean total nerds?”
“That’s it – i am starting a poll.”
Don’t use a lint roller, use a collapsible black plastic lint brush. Less conspicuous and also can easily wash and reuse to infinity.
I see you drive a 2004 Mazda Rx-8
I have a travel size in my glove box and in my bag. I had it in there for a work trip once and just never took it out
If you don’t keep a lint roller, then you be ridin’ dirty.
I absolutely don’t see that problem here. On the contrary, it’s smart. I have an auusi/border collie mix so she has long hair and sheds like crazy. I’m always looking for a lint roller. I can’t even sit on the bed to put on my shoes without picking up hair.
Heck, I even keep a lint roller around for the pool table! I should really consider leaving one in the truck or my desk drawer at work.
I got this guy for my glovebox:

Without the case you’ll find it sticks to everything else in there.
Not only is keeping a lint roller handy acceptable, it’s necessary when living w/ two orange cats. I buy them in bulk from Costco and even keep a travel-size one in my briefcase.
I can go you one, or, rather, three, better: five black and white cats. No clothing color is safe. I stock a whole shelf in my linen closet when Costco has a sale.
Buying orange cats in bulk and a travel sized one in your briefcase might be part of your problem.
Well what else are you going to put in there? Besides rum?
That car is all BOSS!
Yeah but if you go to a friend’s house who has a dog and cat and leave you are screwed. Happened yesterday. I’m buying a lint roller for the car. Genius! Why didn’t I think of this?
Ha. Well played.
Chance favors the prepared. Period.
Reminds me of that elephant I shot in my pajamas…how he got into my pajamas, I’ll never know.
